  1. Just getting ready to post my "Where's my mag?" reply then realised. Ooops, haven't paid my membership Good thing I haven't been up lately.
  2. My avatar is my username. Friends started calling me that when I was a teenager and they still call me that today (I looked somewhat like shaggy when I was younger, scraggly red hair on chin and all... and apparently I walked like him also. I personally don't see it)
  3. Quick question: I heard once that the high noise from aircraft wasn't the engine per se but the propeller ends constantly breaking the speed of sound. I have absolutely no evidence of this but if that is true, this guy doesn't know anything. Has anyone run a rotax 912 without a prop attached?
  4. Any thoughts on a good aerial photography rig (RC linked to outside of aircraft???) I know about the go pro but was wondering if there was something the professional aerial photographers used. BTW Tommo, That pic of the field patterns is just fantastic.
  5. Great, Flight one is who I was going to use for my PPL. Good to hear another great endorsement for them.
  6. Congratulations. Who are you flying with there?
  7. That is one of the saddest photos I have ever seen...
  8. I can't remember if it was the RA mag or one of the others but it had a long article on the myths of flight. Went through all the different theories and identified that, basically, while Bernoulli's principle may assist in flight, the true reason a wing flies is AoA. Higher Alpha, higher lift. Kind of follows from the Lift equation. Lift is a factor of a whole series of factors (AoA, Camber (read bernoulli's), Rho, Surface Area, Velocity). Was a good article.
  9. To get back on topic..... I know that the GA aircraft I used to fly had a control lock as well as a throttle lock.
  10. Agree. I thought you had to have control locks, plus the cabin locked. Or is that just at licensed airfields.
  11. I assumed if anyone invaded new zealand they would just make them citizens then send them over here.
  12. Just started my Navs. Grats on getting through it. Hard to pay for it (well for myself anyways).
  13. Out of interest, out of the people in this thread that have answered, who flies in aircraft without stall warnings? If you did your training in an aircraft without a stall warning would you recognise the symtons as easily (particularly if you are low hours)? Every time I am out on my own I practice stalls a little bit (usually on my way back home). I believe this has helped me to identify both when a stall is going to occur and when it has occured. Not that stalling the tecnam is easy to do. Nor is it very evident. In my test for my pilot certificate we just couldn't get it to stall impressively. Just perfect flying conditions, as soon as the nose dropped the aircraft basically reasserted authority. In the Cherokee however, you could really tell when that bad boy stalled. You'd almost be diving vertically.
  14. ha! Poor little kiwis. On the other hand they don't really need one, who would want to invade New Zealand...
  15. Still think it's not a bad idea... Even if you sit on the plans for a while.
  16. Still $50k isn't much of an outlay. I reckon we could create a small company with even people from here and buy it ;)
  17. Really no airfields at all in Canberra for RA? That's quite sad. Thanks for the best wishes and I will check out Coldstream.
  18. Hi All, I have to go to Melbourne for ATC assessment day on 24th Jan. Since I have to be in Canberra on the 26th thought I might make the most of the trip and spend the 25th flying. Does anyone know if there are schools either in Canberra or Melbourne where I could get checked out in a Tecnam then take it for a trot? Or does anyone have any other suggestions on how I could spend my time flying? Cheers, Shags
  19. So did anyone buy it? Geez might be a worthwhile investment for $50k. Gives a good starting to an aircraft design company with a very sexy design to work from.
  20. They look like a great little aircraft.
  21. I'll read that on the 25th when I get my mag...
  22. this thread could get real dangerous real fast...

    Zoo

    Good god.
  24. Well I have applied for ATC so might be spending the next year in Melbourne. I'm sure there's a place down there I could learn...
  25. Awesome, thanks Tomo!
