  1. I agree with Alf. When looking to purchase I flew several high wing a/c with carry through spars and I either had head contact with It or had vision restricted as my head was just behind it, that made me concerned about knocking myself out if caught in severe turbulence as my head was that close to the spar. I'm 6ft. I did find the tecnam p96 high wing ok and the Bristell and Sportcruiser have fixed seats but adjustable peddles with plenty of headroom and great visibility.
  2. it appears veritas (asic.net.au) are using aust post which to me seems the most practical resolution to the new ID requirements. they already do passports which have similar ID verification requirements.
  3. If you are having an L2 or LAME perform the work he should enter details in your engine and aircraft maintenance logs. Personally I find the entry "as per maintenance schedule" not quite enough and rather a more detailed entry, especially useful when selling or purchasing an aircraft and trying to get a clear picture of its history. Whoever does you work if it is a factory built a/c ensure they understand the maintenance regulations of LSA aircraft with respect to factory approvals, mods and repairs.
  4. I had a problem getting the sensenich 3 blade pitch correct and found this link. Points for Pilots: Setting Blade Pitch for Sensenich Composite Propeller I set the pitch with my smart phone and then refined it using the above method. Worked well
  5. Thanks all. Have tracked down another canopy if needed. still not convinced i can remove the paint without damage and will research further before destroying it and my budget.
  6. rgmwa I have the same concerns about damaging the perspex. It is a large and awkward shaped canopy and would need to be removed from the aircraft to avoid any damage to the cockpit area from caustic strippers etc.. I have been told using a fine cutting paste will do the job as spacesailor suggests but do not know anybody who has actually done this.
  7. Hi I have a large perspex canopy which has had an area above the pilots head painted to act as a sun shade. I find it restricts my vision in turns and would like to remove a portion of it. The total area is about half a sq/m but i need to remove about 100mm from around the edge. Any ideas?
  8. An international airport there would lock down airspace south of the divide from avalon to east sale. No fun in that!
  9. Congratulations - regarding flying VH and LSA. I owned a C172 for 15 years and operational costs over that time steadly increased finally making private ownership questionable with a fuel burn of 34l/h @ $2:50 / l, 100hrly / annuals around $5000 / pa , CIDS program forced upon owners I decided to look into RAAUS and LSA aircraft. Sold the Cessna, did the 5 hr conversion to RAA and purchased a piper sport.. Cruse 110Kts TAS, Approach 70 Kts Threshold 55Kts, Flap extension 75 Kts - very simular to the cessna. Operational costs minimal. Fuel burn 20l/hr Mogas, maintenance less than half that of the cessna if i get an L2 to do it otherwise cheaper if i do it myself (where safe to do so). What i have found with the LSA class is you pick your days. performance is similar but being so lite you feel the flight, this i actually like but a hot windy day can be testing. I keep my PPL current for if i need controlled airspace or more than 2 seats but RAA has won me over. My suggestion, if you are not going to go commercial and try for the big ones do the 5 hours and see, Hire rate at our club is around $120 / hr wet for tecnam aircraft.

    Hi all

Thanks for the welcome. I am located in south Gippsland Victoria. Am looking forward to doing cross country flying between Vic and Qld. I sold the old Cessna due to operational and maintenance costs always rising. I spent 3-4 months looking at LSA aircraft and there were not a lot of young a/c suited to longer flights available here. The Sportcruiser can carry what I need and gives good economy and range. I find the extra weight suits the way I fly and it still looks good. The Cessna was a tough old bird that could handle almost any situation, getting used to the low MTOW of LSA aircraft will be the challenge. Neil, I think we met briefly at Penfield a month or so ago.
  11. Hi, I'm Matt, just retired and looking to fly for the fun. I sold the old Cessna and decided to move to a LSA. Did my RA-Aus certificate conversion a couple of months ago in a Tecnam and it looks like I'm now the proud owner of a Sportcruiser if all goes well.
