    I built a kit ICP Savannah XG XL back in 2010. I bought a wreck of a Savannah S model which turned out to be a far bigger project than expected and I have made and built more than 90% of this aircraft. It is almost completed I have a RANS S-21 Outbound kit sitting here ready to go when I finsih the Savannah S rebuild The S-21 powered with a Rotax can suit the 760kg Group G but any other heavier engine or higher horsepower engine other than a Rotax it will not fit as it has a higher MTOW.     No they have not been doing any development at all the design is the same. The prop JG tested I gave to him it was a 175cm prop but he did not test it how he should have...yes you can test the props all different ones to a type but that is not how these are to be used. JG is testing the prop wrong. His tests are based on how you test a constant speed prop not a ground adjustable fixed pitch. The Eprop has been designed to take advantage of the Rotax engine properties and is modern design with modern materials not something the Wright Brothers used. You set the prop up as per the manufacturers specs not what you think if you want max performance. The drone article posted by Blueadventures basically says it all

    Also make sure no more that 0.3 deg between any blades lower is better of course Just be aware to that dont jam the trottle on fast the prop tips can cavitate a little...just push it on firmly..also be aware that on landing you will not slow as fast as there isnt a huge paddle like before. Some do slightly adjust their landing approach but its no drama just a little different. I am keen to see your numbers at your std cruise rpm with it. Most get 5 kts increase some more just depends on the type of aircraft

    Mike..tie the aircraft down and set your pitch for 5500 wide open throttle on the ground. This is a good starting point. The ultimate aim is to get 5500rpm WOT in the air straight and level. Setting it like that on the ground will get you fairly close

    Thuraya is not positioned well for a lot of parts here in OZ..Iridium is ok but be prepared for no comms if you are in a valley or gullies....Inmarsat is the pick of the bunch. it is geostationary like Thuraya but much better position for australia and the look angle is far higher. It all goes back to cost and some usability. I personally like the Inmarsat for portable ops and the plans now at least are sort of reasonable you dont have to maintain a yearly subscription you can just do a month etc I have been into sat comms since Aussat more than 30 years ago then Optus Mobilesat then of course the rest of these ones now. As a side point I just setup Starlink at my farm last night...it is super impressive and fast and literally 2 mins to setup...incredible stuff now

    I was quoted over a year ago around $5500 for RANS S-21 TD with little experience and 90k hull insurance My sav was $1900 for 60k hull insurance

    Yes He is very happy with it..even though he has not set it up as he should have. I have urged him to set it up as per factory instructions and he said he will when he gets some time. He has set the prop at 5800 WOT..this is not the way to set the prop. You set it up to 5500 WOT. The reason is that it is NOT a CSU it is a fixed pitch ground adjustable so its performance curve is very different to a IFA. For the same cruise RPM he should be 5 to 8 kts faster "Hi Mark The Eprop is performing really well on my Highlander, I’m very happy with my decision. I’ve set the pitch fine to give max hp on takeoff and climb. Takeoff roll is noticeably shorter and climb is better by 200fpm better than my old warp drive, cruise is similar seeing 85kts at 5300. The best thing is the 5kg weight saving and smooth running it gives. Rotax gearbox should last forever."

    I just received the nose dragger bits for my S-21...originally ordered as a TD but insurance is very high especially as I have no TD time. So will build and fly it as a nose dragger but only takes less than an hour to convert to a TD..best of both worlds 🙂

    I like the Tailbeacon X if you can swindle the 50% subsidy that would be great. Brings it back to $2500 I have a SE 2 I was going to use in Mabel but thinking of applying for a Tailbeacon but using it in the RANS when I get it done. You can only claim for a aircraft that is registered. I have a rego number for Mabel but it wont be my end game. The S-21 will be the one I keep but cant get a subsidy for it yet. Even getting one for Mabel will be a bit dodgy as she isnt flying yet but now far off Mark

    Pulled the mold off this afternoon. It took a few hours but eventually I got it free after destrying the frame it was built on. Seems reasonable so need to clean up the main part of the lower cowl then look at where the graft will sit and make the new cod piece

    Danny Leach came over this morning to give me a hand to make the mold for the lower cowl piece. I have coated the section in wax and sprayed a coat of release agent over the section then a thick coat of brushed white gelcoat. Today there are 3 layers of chopmat over the gelcoat then sections of coremat and another layer of glass over the top. The coremat gives the mold some strength but still allows some flex if you need it. I will leave this now for 3 or 4 days then try to separate it from the cowl. That will be the interesting bit.

    Its going to be a while..a lot of the documention is done apparently but there are a few sticking points that they are trying to get sorted so CASA doesnt reject it straight off..well thats what they are trying to do. But CASA is CASA...

I have a call tonight asking me about them and I had to go and look it up. Very interesting 35k for a engine 75kg weight up to many hundreds of HP but around 100 to 150hp for aircraft

    That connector as a add on clip connector is not available. The next size up is. I got a couple of the 24 size I think it was ...but too big. There is no coax tail for that one. Only the test port plug which they use to push in when they test the unit. The easiest way will be bypass the connector on the pcb with some micro surgury with your own coax tail. Thats what i am going to do with mine. I havent done it yet and I dont have a aircraft finished yet to fly but hopefully soon. Its just another add to my long list of jobs 😞
