No it hasn't flown yet I am in the process of building the turbines they are 80mm turbine wheels should develop 22kg of thrust but will derate them to 20kg. Its been sitting here untouched for the past year and a half while I built my Savannah which now is flying I need to clean up my shed and I can get back onto it. I have a few other turbine sport models here but haven't flown them for about 12 months so need to go through them and get them ready to go again. I mainly have videos of flying them...I will do one and post it on youtube and post the link here although I do have one at Wanagaratta a couple of years ago I took of my mates A10 Warthog and 2 others doing formation sort of.....they are worth around 30grand each all twin turbines it was taken with a old analogue camera so the quality isn't that good

The I-152 looks cool. Can you give us some more details? How did it fly?

 

I would love to do an I-16, I reckon they are the Gee Bee of the warbird world.

Hi Mick...it flew beautifully. Bit of a handful on the ground but nice in the air. Last flight I had the receiver died on short final. Its fixable but havent had the time to do it. 67" Span with a Super Tigre 2300 engine.

Heres a I-16 electric. Going to have to put a bigger motor in it.

first one is my old 40% extra 300 powered by a 3W 170cc , second one is my latest composite 40% extra 260 with a 3W 170cc, ended up in the ground after pilot error, i was too busy playing around with my smoke system hovering low to the ground ended up hitting the left elevator onto the ground locking it in the full up position and hitting an aileron on the ground i managed to pull out of the hover but coming into land it just kept wantig to roll with 1 half of the elevator still stuck in the up position and i ripped out the landing gear on landing! expensive mistake but they certainly are fun! and last pic is just mucking around down the beach with a foamy yak

I am currently building a Tony Nijhuis 72" Spitfire. I have had the plans lying around for a while and finally got startedin April. Scratch build. My first ever build so a steep learning curve but enjoying it. I have bought a ASP 1.20 four stroke whil I'll convert to petrol, more to protect the paint job. It has flaps and retracts too. I have a photo log of the build which I can post but have to resize first. Currently in Bali so will upload once back in Perth.

Not Tomo sorry, this chap is a typically dapper English gentleman officer of the RAF 080_plane.gif.36548049f8f1bc4c332462aa4f981ffb.gif

 

Note the pennant under the cockpit indicates that this is the Squadron Leaders aircraft. In this case 601 Sqn based at Tangmere during the Battle of Britain.

I saw one at Maryborough Qld with the head controlled by the rudder servo, so when the rudder moved, so did his head. I married into a family heavily involved in models, but I haven't had time to get out and try my hand at it (yet..)

Some amazing aircraft in this thread, but they all look far to difficult to fly. Think I will stick with the ones you sit in!

True, my spitfire will be hanging from the ceiling for a while and maybe some taxiing before I let her loose, I will be shattered if I crash it on its maiden flight. I think I will join a club first and get someone else to teach me. might get a cheap trainer plane.

I believe CASA also have their rules involving larger models so it will Need to be inspected by someone authorised at the club .. not 100% clued up on the regs yet

My little Dakota Bipe is free flight, no controls required. Half fill the eye dropper fuel tank, start up and throw. Circles up anti- clockwise, descends after 30 seconds in a clockwise spiral. Low tech fun.

Thats wicked, I want a free flight model!

 

On that note, there was a J3 cub that ended up as free flight model. They lost it after the pilot hand swung the ol thing at full throttle. Turned up a few weeks later sitting in a farmers paddock, no damage at all!!!

My Boomerang 60 Trainer

 

Wingspan is 1.9 metres, and it's powered by a 10.86 cc 65LA O.S. Glo plug two stroke, running on among other things, nitromethane.

 

I've got about 3 hours up so far

 

My club is one of the stricter ones, requiring instructor training up to "Bronze Wings" level before being turned free to fly it by myself

 

It's vary stable in flight, not twitchy at all. Compare the moment length between the wings and the horizontal stabilizer, and the area of the horizontal and vertical stabilizers and the rudder with the Jab and that will answer a few questions.
