Do you need approval by anyone in Australia

Do you need approval by anyone in Australia --- to place a GoPro camera on the “outside” of an “enclosed aircraft” on the wing tip, tail or strut for example and say on a Foxbat etc . Note - (not and ragwing type or trike) an if so who approves it in Australia if required. For all those first to jump in with the simple answer “it is not in the factory aircraft operating approval notes” ! Please don't I know its not.

if its a certified or VH registered aircraft, then you can, but require an engineers report and sign off, so $$$$, if its experimental VH, then yes, as long as you log it on the build log, and its there when you fly your test flying hours off. im not sure about Raaus rego

If the aircraft is VH Then CASA are quite clear that it is a major modifications a it in their opinion affect the airflow around the aircraft.

That have tried to clarify the method of approving the change in a draft AC but as far as I know it all got too hard for them and it hasn't been released as a final version.

RAAus have MARAP to allow approval of modifications.

Just thought I would add a link to this write up of a camera affecting the stall speed. If you do go ahead and mount a camera (either with or without approval) give some consideration to where and how you mount a camera as well as how you plan on flight testing. Be particularly careful with anything on the top of the wing or any where on the aerodynamic surfaces of the tail.
