Why Parents Drink

The boss wondered why one of his most valued employees was absent but had not phoned in sick. So he dialled the employee's home phone number and was greeted with a child's whisper.

' Hello ? '

'Is your daddy home?'

' Yes, he's out in the garden ,' whispered the small voice.

'May I talk with him?'

The child whispered, ' No .'

So the boss asked, 'Well, is your Mummy there?'

' Yes, she's out in the garden too '

'May I talk with her?'

Again the small voice whispered, ' No .'

Hoping there was somebody with whom he could leave a message,

the boss asked, 'Is anybody else there?'

' Yes ,' whispered the child, ' a policeman. '

Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the boss asked, 'May I speak with the policeman?'

' No, he's busy , ' whispered the child.

'Busy doing what?'

' Talking to Daddy and Mummy and the police dog men. '

Growing more worried as he heard a loud noise in the background, the boss asked, 'What is that noise?'

' It's a helicopter ' answered the whispering voice.

'What is going on there?' demanded the boss, now truly apprehensive.

' The search team just landed a helicopter '

'A search team?' said the boss. 'What are they searching for?

Still whispering, the young voice replied with a muffled giggle...

' ME . '

I did that years ago when I as in the SES. We got all our team together, travelled 40 km to the next town to search for a missing child. Just as we got there the word came over the radio that he had been found, asleep behind the sofa in the living room.

You wouldn't believe how happy we could be to get a wasted call out.

Jolly good post kgwilson

When I was a kid (about 3) I decided to jump our 6 ft Pailing fence and hide in our neighbours box trailer under a tarp. Can't remember how long mum said I was there but she had everyone out looking for me, coppers etc!

You would probably end up in the care of docs for that sort of stuff these days I suppose. .....

Our search team has learnt that most of our customers (old people with dementia or little kids) don't want to be found. Toss in the sound of helicopters, radios and vehicles, no wonder they are scared by the sound of strange men calling their name in the dark. Best to have women do the calling out.

This happened to my wife and I when our son was 5...after an hour he was found 2 klms away. The most scariest time of our life. The cops were brilliant and it was as if it was so rehearsed with 2 cops trying to keep us calm and the street was like police headquarters, they came from everywhere within minutes. It was 1 day after another little kid went walkabout and they found his body in the local creek. Corrine and I were so scared.
