I have just completed setting up the First Class membership that provides First Class members with many extra privileges across the site and assigned existing First Class members to that special user group. You can tell which members financially support this great resource as their user name is in GOLD and they have a special First Class image on their profile page.
Donations of $50 or more places you in the First Class member user group.
I have added a button in the side column of the main Forums List page and at the bottom of the Whats New pages if you would also like to donate towards the running costs of the site, help to keep Recreational Flying (.com) here for all recreational aviators and become a First Class member.
Donation page: https://www.recreationalflying.com/subscriptions/
A huge thank you to every First Class member for your support over the years, you make this great resource available to every recreational aviator.

Please note that the normal weekly email that gets sent out each Sunday morning with the latest popular threads will not be coming as I need to get a software solution to add to the site that will perform this weekly task...I hope you understand...I will get there

Hi all, I have just sent out the following email to all First Class members who have in their settings elected to receive emails from the site. Unfortunately not all First Class members have elected to receive emails from the site so I am posting the email here for them to be "in the loop".
Sorry for the intrusion however as a Recreational Flying First Class member I need to firstly say thank you for your support of the Recreational Flying web site, it is your support that has helped the site to continue providing all recreational aviators a fantastic resource. Secondly as you may have noticed we have moved over to the IPS software solution and to continue the First Class member system I need to create a Paid Invoice for each existing First Class member. You can ignore the invoice as it is only the mechanism that the site uses to assign you as a First Class member due to the site now having full e-commerce facilities within the IPS software.
*NOTE: Site Moderators and users that have 20,000 posts or more are automatic First Class members as a way to say thanks for their help and support in making the site such a great place to be for all recreational aviators.
The IPS system also notifies you when your First Class membership is coming to an end and provides you with a facility to renew, which I hope you do in that the site has achieved its goals in helping you to stay safe, learnt from the experiences of other pilots and assisted you in all your flying and aircraft maintenance activities.
Personally I can say that I am very happy with the outcome of the IPS software and although a lot more expensive to have, I can see fantastic enhancements to the recreational flying resource that will provide an enormous future for the site.
I thank you for your help and support you have provided the site over the years and if there is anything I can do for the site to assist you further then please, do not hesitate to let me know.
Safe and fun flying
Best regards
Ian Baker

That's fine, Ian.
Now I'm just trying to find where I set the What's New default...ummmmmmmm
Hi @IBob, have a look at this post as in this one it explains how to set the Whats new (All) as the default...you can set any Whats New stream as your default and even create your own view using the filters at the top of the Whats New page:

Hi Ian.
Looking for "mark all items as read"
inside posts looking for "edit/delete post"
For "Mark all items read" have a look in the top right corner under the header which says "Mark site read"
For "Mark forum read", there is a link at the top of the forum list of threads
To edit a post, click the 3 dots in the top right corner of the post
Hope this helps!

Hi again. Am viewing on Windows laptop. The Notifications alert doesn't seem to be working, though the bold or light type indicating read/unread content is. Just in case you didn't know.
Thanks again.
Bob
Hi @IBob, not sure what you mean by this...can you elaborate?

Hi Ian, all looks to be shaping up nicely when viewed on my old laptop!
Thanks for the ongoing dedication of you and your team in continuing to provide a great site and a terrific resource.
For newbies: there have been a few moves of the site over the years. Yes, they can tend to seem wrenching, but they do shake down nicely.
Can we have a What's New All below What's New on the left hand side? It's not a biggy, I'm just lazy.
Thanks again,
Bob
Hi @IBob, to add another menu item like Whats New (All) to the side menu will take up extra real estate when I know we are going to be looking for extra space on there as it is in due course. However. clicking the Whats New in the side menu will take you to either Whats new (Unread) OR Whats New (All) depending on what you have set as your Whats New default...is that ok by you?

I can't write any comments on my Ipad and have to access this site on my lap top.

Can you try and clear the Recreational Flying .com Cookie...to do that look for your browser in the following linked page and perform the actions for your specific browser:

This is a test using my Son’s iPad Pro...works ok

Thought I would create a thread where you can post what would be the greatest flight you wish you could do...
A flight that I would really like to do is fly the Nile...starting at Burundi, south of the equator, along the whole length of The Nile, through Egypt, stop off and have a cup of tea with @Ahmed Zayed, see the Pyramids, have a drink from The Nile and have dinner with a "Queen of the Nile" and end up finishing at the Mediterranean Sea. What a trip that would be, the history, the vastness etc and I am not even sure if it could be done like is there landing strips along the way, fuel, permits etc but still it would be an incredible flight to do.
Yours?

What is it about it that you don't like? Please let me know so I can see what the issues may be

Update...
Been working on the First Class membership program
The Blogs have been migrated over but I am not happy the way they look on a 1024x768 screen (like iPads)...will work on that
Looked at migrating the Groups over however an addon that will provide categories for Groups (is needed) hasn't been updated to this version of software yet...bummer, will keep pursuing
I don't think there is any point migrating the upcoming Events until we can get past COVID
There is a lot more to do but is there anything URGENT that you need???
Oh, also @Ahmed Zayed has done some work on minimising some of the excess white space which has resulted in a better look...in my opinion, hope yours as well, and there is still some more work to do in that area but not a priority at this stage
-
Yes they will within the next couple of days

We must take a moment and give EXTREME thanks to @Ahmed Zayed for spending hours all night developing a way to migrate all the Aircraft in the Aircraft Section...if he hadn't been able to achieve this then we would have been stuck on xenforo and the gaming style web site software direction they are now going...words would fail me to say how appreciative I am for him doing this and as I am sure you all are as well.
Now, the Aircraft section uses an open style part of the software, that is I can create a separate database and pages that calls data from that database for anything I like, and that the site needs, unlike the closed software sections that are pre-built like the Forums, Gallery, Groups, Calendar etc. There are several databases I want to create for the site like Tutorials, Famous Aviators, etc and I would like to have them all have the same look and feel to make it easier for users and thus the Aircraft section would be amongst them. Once I have completed the migration etc of the closed software sections I will come up with a design that will suit all the database driven pages. I hope this helps to explain the process that I am taking

In the What's New (All) main page, there is no original creation date - there used to be a date showing when the topic (not replies) was originally created/
Can that be displayed, as I cant tell whether was created 2 weeks or 10 years previously
Unfortunately the data to pull out the thread creation date is not accessible without editing core software files...if it is a MUST HAVE then I would need to get @Ahmed Zayed to code it but it would not be an advisable exercise

Thanks @red750 ...now added

Both Whats New (Unread) and Whats New (All) are now defaulted to view in condensed mode. If you wish to have an expanded view click the Expanded button on the page and it will set expanded as default for you
-
A "Back To Top" arrow button visible in the bottom right corner when scrolling down a page has been added
-
That's exactly the same as the Whats New (All) selection
