  1. They should throw the book at whoever left the door unlatched. Didn't find the knickers eh Pete? Sure.
  2. Onya Mike. Congrats.
  3. Great story Sue. Welcome, and yes, no nosewheel - no way.
  4. The vandals have carved regular trenches across both strips Ozzie. Just to make sure people don't foul their pristine development opportunity I presume. There is no Notam for Cooranbong, so if it is still on the current VTC then someone should get a rocket. I found a very interesting history of Cooranbong airfield inside the Heritage Impact Assessment report commissioned for the rezoning.
  5. Flying Dog. Please read facthunter's post again. I think you'll find Nev doesn't do put-downs. We'll let Darky take from it what she will. It seemed like a good piece of information to me.
  6. I took the latest Mio 300 I acquired for a fly yesterday. All is well. Would anyone like it fully loaded with OziExplorerCE, my waypoints and screen layout, the maps of your choice and shipped to you for $280?
  7. facthunter for PM.
  8. If they are on the current chart, then they are closed by Notam. If you don't have a current chart and/or haven't checked Notams for all possible alternatives for your planned flight, epic fail.
  9. I can confirm that routing the breather higher definitely reduced the amount of oil reaching my catch bottle on my Jab 2200. I further reduced the oil blowing through the catch bottle and under the plane by filling the catch bottle with steel wool. This encourages the oil to settle rather than blow through with any air. I suspect something like steel wool near and above the crankcase breather would prevent even more oil reaching the collector, but haven't tried it. It would need to be particle free so nothing else flowed back but oil (obviously).
  10. Because I can't reach mine (ice-cream).
  11. Hi Damian. Having recently tried one of the 7" models, I wouldn't recommend them because the screen is too dim. It doesn't have an anti-glare surface which makes the problem worse. I find it hard to go past the Mios, in fact I just bought another one on eBay which I will load up and someone can buy off me ready to go. If you're looking at the moment, you'd find it hard to get a better buy than this one. If I hadn't just bought another, I would have grabbed it myself. If someone wants the Mio 300 I just got, I'll get another, then another. They really are the bee's knees for VFR navigation on very little money. I'm having trouble at the moment with forum member 10.5's Mio 370. Ozi asks for the key every time after a hard reset. Any ideas? The Ozi author is helping me, as he always does. We'll fix it.
  12. He'd be close. It was a Long-EZ.
  13. Except over the Snowy Mountains. The terrain goes as high as 7000 and it's a designated remote area, so I like to get at least 8500 over there. There aren't many options in many parts. You're also outside class E at the parts where you really need the height, so 9500 is OK without a transponder.
  14. We did do the nose, and the hat.... but he has got a wart. See? No cleverness needed.
  15. Hi Kevin. You avoid almost all the rough stuff by going to the Araluen valley from Braidwood and following it down to Moruya. So track Bungendore, Braidwood, Araluen, Moruya. Almost no tigers that way. No need to avoid YMRY, just listen on 126.7 for other traffic. Merimbula is also on 126.7, so I tend to stay on there and make calls for other coastal traffic. Use HCLs, so going south you tend to the west of south, so cruise at 2500. Going north, 1500 or 3500. Just track generally coastal and make the calls for departing YMRY with intention to track south coastal, then 10nm from YMER, then same coming home. Too easy. It's some of the prettiest coast to fly in this country, therefore the world. Cheers, Ross
  16. Whoa - that was subtle. We need a sarcasm icon. I keep running afoul of that one too.
  17. Thanks for the report Wags. Much appreciated. At least he is thinking of us. That's a step forward.
  18. At the risk of appearing ignorant/stupid, how does a headwind change your fuel burn per hour? The plane/trike doesn't know there is a headwind. Certainly you'll use more fuel for the trip, but per hour?
  19. Ah Bruce. I didn't recognise your voice and I didn't want to get too chatty on the CTAF to find out. Thanks for the welcome and sorry I missed you.
  20. Cheers Ray. Yep - great vantage up there. It's a fantastic run Maj. At times the cliffs seem higher than the 500' you have to cruise at. No time to kiss your bum goodbye if it goes quiet though. YSSY wasn't a problem. Checked ATIS to get the QNH and find out which runways were active. They were using 34L and 34R so I knew where to look. Didn't see anything close. Cheers Rob. We'll have to catch up another day. Shame about the video. I'd like to see some when you get it working. Mark video'd my landing when I got back to Goulburn. Glad it was a good one. I hope he'll post it.
  21. Pics from Saturday at Luskintyre Had a good day. Caught up with Andrew (Flying Dog). Ray (Tracktop) flew his trike over from Maitland when he heard me on the radio. Nice to meet you Ray. Lots of lovely flying, albeit very murky in the morning. As I headed north it looked like I was heading into heavy rain. Checked the radar and couldn't see any. It was just the accumulation of murk. It all burned off in a few hours, and became a beautiful day. Luskintyre is an amazing setup. Lots of hangars with lots of Tiger Moths in various stages of repair and build. Someone roared past in a Mustang too. I was told it was Matt Hall, but he was supposed to be in Numurkah. It was a bit quiet and not too friendly (could be just me), so after a BBQ lunch I decided to go to Wollongong for a coffee via Victor 1. What a great trip that makes. Arrived in circuit at YWOL to hear "Welcome to Wollongong Ross" over the radio. Those AFRUs get smarter all the time. On the ground I ran into Rob (Ultralights) and Steve. Great to catch you guys again. Then a bunch of HARS guys came over to talk Cheetah and sit in it. Finally got my coffee and cake (yum) and a quiet slouch in the sun, then up the escarpment and home. That's what it's all about. All on one tank too! About 4.2 hours and nautical miles of smiles. I love long summer daylight hours. Here's a few pics. 23. I thought about that stuff too Pud. Might work, but would have to be thin to keep the touch screen working.
  24. Yeah Ray - great to meet you. Thanks for dropping over to catch up. I'll post some pics later. On topic - I gave the 7" GPS a run yesterday. The good: It works perfectly well and the screen is very big. The bad: Not bright enough - the screen is very reflective, so the brightness is important. Also, the power lead comes out very easily. You would have to fix this so it didn't unexpectedly go flat. A hood would help with visibilty, but you'd still have to angle it toward a dark part of your cockpit. I much prefer my Mio. It's bright enough to be seen at all times, and a 4.3" screen is plenty.
