  1. This one was at the Sunraysia flyin, Wentworth June this year. Note the extension on the already long nose. This one was Rotax powered. Not so apparent in this photo, it just looked awkward to me. The Spitfire on the other hand... awesome!
  2. With an electric motor wouldn't you just reverse its direction of rotation to suit?
  3. "Popular Mechanix magazine 1955 May issue" Am I stoopid or is this missing in the '55 archive!?
  4. Give him an airman's kiss.. you know, the one behind the hangers
  5. Peter, Make sure you tick off all the points in this, (which should be in the builders rego pack) https://www.raa.asn.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Before-Calling-Inspector.pdf One thing to note with photographs required, have both LH and RH side of the aircraft rego marking.
  6. *sigh..* its not that hard I received a copy of Tech Manual 3.3.1 in builders rego/info pack ISSUE OF REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE 1. Equipment required for eligibility for registration of an AUF Amateur Built aircraft. a. The aircraft is required to have a fire proof data plate attached to the airframe that identifies the aircraft. (serial number and registration number) Nothing more, nothing less for the data plate
  7. Hi Peter, Paint job is awesome!! I just made up a small data plate out of scrap stainless, about 50 x 30. Used a rotary engraver to mark with type Sonex, rego number and sonex serial number. I don't think the L4 even looked at it, just asked where it was.. under the LH horizontal stab.
  8. It's also been stated elsewhere that the available runway for the intersection departure was approximately 3000'
  9. From the NTSB Preliminary Report - so we keep to the known facts, and not the usual BS. NTSB Identification: CEN15FA249 14 CFR Part 91: General Aviation Accident occurred Tuesday, June 02, 2015 in Oshkosh, WI Aircraft: MONNETT JOHN T JR SONEX SA, registration: N123SX Injuries: 2 Fatal. This is preliminary information, subject to change, and may contain errors. Any errors in this report will be corrected when the final report has been completed. NTSB investigators either traveled in support of this investigation or conducted a significant amount of investigative work without any travel, and used data obtained from various sources to prepare this aircraft accident report. On June 2, 2015, about 1520 central daylight time, a Monnett Sonex SA experimental amateur-built airplane, N123SX, impacted unoccupied vehicles, after departing the Wittman Regional Airport (OSH), Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Both private pilots were fatally injured. The airplane was substantially damaged. The airplane was registered to and operated by Sonex Aircraft LLC, under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight which operated without a flight plan. The local flight was originating at the time of the accident. According to OSH tower personnel, the airplane departed runway 9 from the intersection of runway 9 and runway 13. After clearing the airplane for takeoff, the tower controller focused their attention on inbound traffic and did not witness the accident. The accident site was located 0.25 miles east-northeast of the departure end of runway 9. The airplane came to rest on unoccupied vehicles located on Oshkosh Corporation's property on a general heading of 220 degrees. The engine separated from the airplane and was located on the ground in front of the airplane. All major components remained attached to the airplane. The airplane was transported to a secure facility for further examination.
  10. I could be pedantic and suggest you are describing tasks.. which may or may not require high stress manoeuvres to carry out.
  11. When I visited the Sonex factory at Oshkosh, they had a Sonex wing panel hanging on the wall. It was load tested to destruction and deformed in excess of +9G
  12. Correct, but a blanket statement that Raaus airframes are not strong enough isn't correct. The Sonex airframe doesn't know if the are VH letters or Raaus numbers on the side.
  13. Not quite correct, the Sonex airframe is aerobatic , 431Kg max takeoff weight for sport aeros. +6G -3G
  14. I think the Stolaero came first, then the Condor. A couple of fellows I knew at Raymond Terrace/Medowie had one of each back in the early 80's. They were fairly similar.
  15. Pair of Cohen Condor's or Stolaero's..? not sure, can't remember the wingtip configuration
  16. Shite.. hope he's ok, and you too Tim. 8k east of Tailem wouldn't be too far from your strip?
  17. Just wondering if we can get a top up of AVGAS at the field on the day ERSA says local swipe card only. Cheers Tony
  18. Yeah good stuff.. I could almost see a business opportunity here, renting your rig to Aussies for USA fly drive adventures..
  19. Ha ha.. MrMcarthy.. at least we used a piece of cardboard, or if you were really lucky a piece of scrounged Masonite Re the billy cart, last year I was reminiscing about the fun I had with mine and how it steered etc. compared to an aircraft. The next day I was due to restart some training to get my certificate current. When I finally got in the plane and started the takeoff roll, guess what.. my brain kicked in to billy cart mode and it was a few zig zags down the runway before I realised what I was doing. The power of visualisation and muscle memory!!
  20. ..yeah and don't forget the rego numbers Kasper
  21. Nice Schmacko, is this at the Fire Bomber strip?
