This is NOT just a complicated CTA thingo ( no offence intended to Nathan at all) an does NEED to be used OCTA, if you start giving your ETA in the central states as local when everybody else is using UTC you eta will be half an hour out!! 20 instead of 50? I see issues with that straight away..Seriously guys! Is not that difficult, either buy a decent watch with dual time zones or even better, buy a $3 digital watch and set it to UTC and stick it in the cockpit..
Well there is AVGAS at Maningrida but, like you said if you are staying a while might be a lot of travelling to get fuel.
In regards to the origional question, don't know bugger all about the fuel but, my car I had there didn't seem to like it. I got around 15% less KM to a tank when I was in Alice.
Where abouts an exactly would you be heading? Ive mostly come across Opal further south in the Alice region, there is also Avgas at Borroloola, Groote, Ngukurr, and a few other spots, all but Groote needing prior permission/Local fuel card
I use OzRunways both VFR & IFR, had a play for a while with Avplan but never bothered with a subscription, only, because I couldn't be bothered changing and having to learn something new, seemed like a fairly good product but so is OzRunways
If a single knot of down wind makes big enough difference to your TO performance to question the strip length, I wouldn't advise using it in the first place.
10kn at 10 degrees won't make any noticeable difference and for all intensive purposes it could be considered to be magnetic up until Xwind Dwind limits. To be honest I hardly read the wind anyways as long as it's under aircraft limits. Windsock and AWIS/ATIS is a much better source for runway selection/TO performance.
That being said the theory knowledge should be there. There are a few things in the thread that really are minimum knowledge that doesn't seem to have been passed on. But that's where the forum is good as long as good info is getting passed around :)
There can be further information not listed in a TAF, few examples Xwind Dwind for the duty runway, instrument or visual approach expectations, turbulence on final and a heap of others like works in progress, so an ATIS is different to a TAF. An ATIS isn't just "weather" but like the name says terminal information
Na it's true north. I don't use AIP so I can't give you a reference unless you have jepps?
Written is degrees true and herd is degrees magnetic. There was one exception to this and I can't remember exactly what it was but I assume it's when you copy a TAF off centre obviously it's still true
Yep, that's correct, AGL for TAF's and AMSL for ARFOR's. Make it easier for alternate requirements/ VMC minima etc.
As for the presentation, the shorthand is much easier to read in flight when your under the pump, only after you have a good understanding of it tho. You can look for certain info quickly without having to read or interpret any of it. I do admit that if you aren't reading it everyday I can be confusing tho.

Did I miss anything?
It would be if everyone was using the same, but, there are large differences in terminal/local especially in the southern states in winter. Area at least gives the guarantees 5HPA of difference before a split happens but as i said it really doesn't matter what is set as long as everyone is on the same DATUM! 100NM is about an hour flight in a jab type, allot happens in an hour but more importantly is ALL IFR traffic will be on area.
Not going to get into that too much but the intent is 100nm from departure aerodrome. Cruising along at A095 surrounded by IFR traffic is not a good idea. Like I said, no point being the only one with an accurate QNH.
