  1. With oil at $55 per barrel electric has a bright future - but only in lighting.
  2. So if the decision is reversed do they then pay the $861 to you for getting it wrong the first time? Out of interest how does this fee compare to the fine for flying with a license?
  3. Or as one American multimillionaire put it when asked about his success "I just find out what people want and give it to them".
  4. Welcome Matt! What a beautiful part of the world to fly in too...
  5. Not quite in the same category but I had a check-up and associated blood tests done and the results cam back bordering on pre-hypertension so got a bit of a talking to about this. Then 13 days later it so happened that I had another check-up through a different doctor (they had a special promotion thing & I thought it may be more comprehensive) which also included a blood test done by the same lab. The results were excellent, many of the major factors were quite different numbers and the doc said less than 5% chance of cardiac problems. The other funny thing was the first doctor was looking at me strangely when I came in for a check-up, apparently men don't do this. She ended up asking me if I was worried about something such as.... ah having sex with other men!! I was so shocked & stunned I could hardly speak; it never occurred to me she may have thought like this. Haha, pretty funny in hindsight.
  6. This is pretty nice.
  7. (Yeah I know Boeing has already done this stuff but it's still an interesting clip).
  8. Hourly rate is important of course but not as important as the total hours required - check the schools average time to certificate. Some (many? I'm not sure) try to milk it out as long as possible.
  9. Yeah, cull them with more regulation that'll fix everything and lower the hourly rate we pay for sure /sarc. CASA will advise how to do this, they're good at such programs (or pogroms). How about first providing data on the damage these 'cowboy' L2's have supposedly done including number of actual incidents or accidents caused.
  10. As others have said placing the container on the ground for loading seems not to be done in the US, just use ramps, it isn't that bad. I've dealt with Skyview Aviation in Tracy, CA and know they send aircraft to AU fairly often. Got them to ship an engine and later a prop for me. They will pack and send, you may chose to go there and pack the container yourself and possibly save some $$.
  11. Neat animations.... check the site.
  12. Seems an interesting product, I wonder if they could make it with very thin skins...? [/url] "...Trains made of aluminum foam, a material that’s stronger, lighter, and better in a crash than fiberglass or regular old metal. Engineers in Chemitz, Germany unveiled a prototype high-speed train cab made with the stuff earlier this year. The composite material is built like a sandwich: Between two pieces of aluminum, each just two millimeters thick, is a 25-millimeter-thick layer of the “foam,” actually a low-density, sponge-like composite of magnesium, silicon, and copper, and aluminum. And like a good sandwich, there’s no glue. The layers are held together by metallic bonding, the electrostatic attraction of negatively charged electrons and positively charged ions."
  13. "The group of Michiana Rocketry club members planned the project for more than two years. About 30 people worked on the rocket, from engineers to sales people who lined up sponsors."
  14. "If you’re the kind of person that tends to notice these things, a fair weather weekend stroll in any Chinese city or town lacks a distinct sound: the buzzing of light propeller aircraft in the sky. Outside the commercial and military realms, aviation is strictly limited, and private citizens who just want to take to the air have few options. That’s problematic, since booming growth in the country’s airline industry has generated a need for pilots, and it’s easier to recruit when you’ve got a population of men and women who already know how to fly. Perhaps the biggest issue is that the majority of Chinese airspace is controlled by the military, and thus hard to access. Any fix on that front would come from the government (and rumor has it an overhaul is in the works), but a new plane from American-Chinese company Mooney could help address the other problems that are holding back Chinese aviation....."
  15. Hey John (or anyone) is this correct or an assumption? I have no idea but what if the exact opposite situation went down - J suggested they could take U etc to the cleaners and strip personal assets etc? Might be wrong but I feel a public servant or government agency publicly labeling a private companies products in this way without also quoting substantial supportive data / evidence is almost unprecedented except in the case of serious fraud, imminent and serious public danger or criminal misconduct which is clearly not the situation here.
  16. Perhaps you need to consider an exciting alternative pastime - like moderating or something?
  17. Whyalla Airlines. CASA illegally crushed them, they sued and eventually won a mega payout. Probably no-one at CASA even got demoted, taxpayers just coughed up a little more to cover the ineptitude and the folk of Whyalla are left the worse off.
  18. Government (via Ungerman and CASA) attempting to crush Australian businesses - indeed an industry. Recall they did nothing whilst Robinsons were incinerating people.... I can't see any data included to back up the claim of 'high and increasing'. CASA's fee's are high and increasing, would be timely to apply the same approach to them perhaps. You'd think they would have enough on their hands sorting out the RPL and Avmed shambles, but apparently it's OK for them to produce defunct products.
  19. Bred - it's 'bred in Australia' Dazza. Sorry, couldn't resist.
  20. Yes, they are a cartel. Should be banned.
  21. Reporters opinion, make of it what you will.
  22. Well the circular firing squad actually exists! Awesome training guys....
  23. Media report today implied they had lodged the paperwork but hadn't received a response in time, probably the Indo's were dragging their feet. Big chunk of baksheesh to cover it now, $5700.
  24. Demonstrates their air defences are alert or something. This might have been a useful response when MH370 apparently sailed past....
  25. This guy apparently specializes in making jerry-rigged weapons from parts purchased at newsagent / gift shops after airport security, kinda funny actually. You just KNOW you want to do this.... but yeah, not recommended even with an ASIC. Unless you are in Afghanistan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lsem22DkIjw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RutNzzRvhd0 "Critics often accuse Booth of arming terrorists with the means to hijack flights, but his response is more disquieting: “What if they already know all this?” Over the last nine months, he has shared four reports detailing his destructive designs with the TSA prior to posting the videos online. They were happy to accept his info and sent a couple of FBI agents to his home for a short discussion, but haven’t yet provided any feedback addressing the vulnerabilities that his research has identified"
