  1. This time of year at Caboolture is excellent for early flying. It's my favourite time of year!
  2. It definately is a practice thing, circuits, circuits and more circuits. The idea is to NOT try to land the plane and hold it off the ground as long as you can and when the airspeed bleeds off it will touch down. It will also come down to the aircraft you fly. When i fly the Tecnam P92E, on approach to the landing, i will start to count down from 50 feet and when i get to 10 feet i will start the flare and hold off. But with the CTLS and SW, you approach the landing a bit different and start the flare a bit earlier. But the bottom line is what ever you fly just keep up the practice and you will get good at it.   5. Good on ya mate! Alot of what you said in your post brings back the memories of my training. Some days nothing went right but when it eventually comes all together, it's a great sense of achievement! Welcome to the world of aviation. Best of luck with the rest of your training!
  6. Landings are definately something you just have to do and feel for yourself. (After instruction of course). The feeling of a good landing and also a good cross wind landing will allways put a big grin in my face!
  7. I trained in a Tecnam P92E ( as you can see in my avitar ), and it has been damn good to me. I'll allways love the Teccy. I'm having an affair with the CTSW a.t.m, but i will allways have a soft spot for the Teccy!
  8. Absolutly Frank, it's the way i have been taught and since gaining my pilot certificate, the way i fly! Allways have a suitable landing area within gliding distance if the engine goes quiet. Change the heading if your going over bush. I'd rather put a bit more time on my flight and be flying over possible landing areas than come unstuck. An engine failure should not be a "panic moment", but a moment that you are in control and have it planned out ahead of time. I often just go for a local flight on my own and practice PFL's.   10. Well done mate, i understand the weird feeling of not having the instructor next to you. My first solo was not the best circuit i had done, and balooned a bit on the landing, but a great feeling of achievement. It was good of you to pick your instructor up on the way back to the hanger. For thoes familar with Caboolture, My instructor walked back from runway 12 after heavy rain the day before, by the time he got back to the hanger, he was covered in mud, I thought mabey i should have gave him a lift back.   12. Absolutly Neil, they are great. What i like about these videos is alot of them are training videos, from preflight to how to fly them. It goes to show the sort of training these pilots had to go through back in the day. Alot of these were used as training aids. I definately have an appreciation for these old pilots. Glad you enjoy them as well.

  15. Yep the V-lite has been designed for the sub 70kg category. That means that hang glider pilots can fly them with a motorised endorsement. And the wing can be foot launched.

  18. Hi Tomo, Yeah it is a neat little machine hey? I don't think it has been up yet, i could be wrong. I heard Neil took you up in his Savannah, what did you think of it? I had a fly of it and loved it. Just curious on what you thought of "Jaffa"
  19. People do say common sense is what you need to pass the HF exam which is definately true but i promise you will learn a fair bit too. For me human factors was really enjoyable and i got alot out of it. I did the theory then sat the exam at the end of the day so i didn't do any studying prior to the course. I bought the Dyson Holland book after i did the course to add to my collection and is a pretty informative guide and i recommend it. Anyway, good luck with it all
  20. They do look great and the Mosquito helicopters are pretty much the same. There is some good footage of them on youtube. Pity you need a full Helicopter PPL to fly them.
