  1. Just been mustered out of underwing camping by 4 wheel bikes. Apparently more of CASA rules.
  2. Attendance doesn't seem high, counted about 80 aircraft
  3. Maj that would depend on which model kitfox you are comparing it to, skyfox was based on the model 3 kitfox. Model 4 kitfox has a different wing profile and as you have said a bigger rudder/fin so makes a big difference in handling. I like the skyfox/kitfox aircraft. The latest kitfox 7 is a much different and bigger machine to the originals, thee early kitfoxes used the 582 rotax as a base engine and were designed as a simple, inexpensive fun machine for weekend flyers. Still a lot of fun.

  6. Yep had a similar problem a few years back, put a diode in circuit from the sender. I'll see if I can find the information on it. Tom

  8. I would say those figures from aak would be correct, obviously they are with only 1 person (big person 105kg) and about 1/2 fuel (about 40kg) I would estimate the empty wt around 370kg or so , all up about 500kg. I usually climb out at 800'/min at 650kg on 100hp in my rotax j400. What a great aeroplane! Jabiru make the best airframe, strong, low maintenance, and reasonable price and it's local, need any parts, just call and order arrives in a couple of days! I m very happy with my jab. Tom

  12. 'Following extensive consultation with the aviation community' ???? Yea right.

  14. Does he really think MDX flew another 3 minutes after last transmission, descending at 1500' /min and loaded with ice, 1000' below lsalt ? Not likely
  15. Could simply be the fuel, go back to avgas and see if it still does it
  16. I remember doing night circuits at a country airport, when on one circuit as we turned base the runway disappeared as fog rolled in quite quickly, had to use opposite runway to land ASAP One dark night in western nsw horizon could not be seen and lights on ground were no different than the stars. Definitely an instrument flight.
  17. Rotax already produce a good engine that fits nicely in the the j230. Just got to get jabiru to take their blinkers off.

  19. The leak down test done, what are the figures? If it's down there is no question but to fix it. Pretty easy to work on really. Sorry I can't help with speeds, I don't fly the aeroplane, just maintain it.
  20. Have you had a leak down test done? That will tell you where it's down. I recently replaced rings in one cylinder due to owner using fuel a few months old. Pitot system leak check? Should be a bit quicker than that. What prop have you got?
  21. In a balanced turn (I emphasise balanced) the outer wing may stall 1st because of aileron used to bank the aircraft has increased the AofA of that wing. This is why in a stall you do not try to pick up any wing drop with aileron because use of aileron will further increase AofA further deepening the stall of that wing. Hope this simplifies and answers your question.
  22. No. In a rate 1 turn the difference in speed of both wings is less than a fraction of a kph, so small as to be insignificant. In a steep turn eg 100m diameter turn performed at 60 kph(sorry it's easier to keep it metric) take less than 20 sec the speed difference from wing to wing is only 3kph. At 100kph (53kts)the difference is only 5.4 kph(less than 3 kts)
  23. No. If you climb best angle may only give for example 500ft/min take 2 mins to 1000ft whereas best rate will yield say 700ft/min and only take 1.5 mins to 1000ft but cover a greater distance. Usually used where you are doing a nav and want to climb to say 5500ft and cruise, so it will get you to altitude faster and cover the distance faster( both desirable) Best angle usually only used to clear an obstacle and usually only used for as short a time as possible (cooling, visibility etc) Best angle maybe at 60kts best rate maybe at 80kts just as an example
  24. I think you have mixed the terminology and confused yourself. Best angle of climb is done usually at a lower airspeed but higher angle of attack( nose high) to clear obstacles but gives a lower rate of climb eg500ft/min which may only result in 1.5kms to arrive at 1000ft but take 2 mins. this is used to clear obstacles. Best rate is done at higher airspeed & will give you altitude faster but over a greater distance on the ground eg 700ft/min& 2 km to get to 1000ft(about 1.5 mins ) just as an example So best angle is in relation to the ground, best rate in relation to time.
  25. Yes.simply put The fixed is stall AofA. All others variable
