    RFS can't give permission to use the airstrip because it's not theirs. I'd reckon a phone call from a Tarcutta local to the airstrip owner would be worth a try though. I think the RFS strip is near the Keajura Road, so I'll head out there and see if I can find it. Where abouts is your brother inlaw? (just a rough estimate will do)

    Haven't heard back from the RFS yet, but I did find a bit of info on the Tarcutta airstrip. The satellite image on Google Earth is too old to show it.... ==================== BUSH FIREbulletin // CORPORATE NEWS Vol 30 /1 2008 FAMILY OFFERS LAND FOR A NEW AIRSTRIP IN TARCUTTA An airstrip has been commissioned in Tarcutta that will dramatically improve access to fires in the Tarcutta, Book Book, Humula, Umbango and Oberne brigade areas. The airstrip is situated on Alloomba, a property owned for generations by the Belling family who are also members of the local RFS. The airstrip is eight kilometres south west of Tarcutta and adjacent to the Hume Highway. Along with the new 1km long fully marked airstrip, it also has a 30,000 litre water tank. =======================

    There was an airstrip setup near Tarcutta a few years ago for Fire bombing ops. I've shot a message off to a bushie contact to find out if it's still there and available for public use. Might save stuffing around building one.

    The first numeral is cloud cover in oktas. (eighths of the sky) 1-2 = FEW 3-4 = SCT (scattered) 5-7 = BRN (broken) 8 = OVC (overcast) I.e 1AC140 = 1 octa (few) AltoCumulus at 14000ft I saw it explained somewhere but can't for the life of me remember where...

    Ozzie, what a great idea for a thread! 1. Beech/Raytheon Starship (back to front Kingair) - No reason other than they look facinating. 2. Wouldn't mind a go of a Beech Baron - A hangover from playing with FlightSim 3. A helo of some type - Land the buggers anywhere...has to be fun! Cheers!

    relativity Nah, not a competition. Are we discussing the velocity or kinetic energy of the bullet and in relation to the aircraft or a stationary object? What if a tail gunner fired a round straight out the back? Would it have the KE to down a persuing aircraft or would it just drop on the head of an ASIC inspector walking around near the airfield gate? Curious minds.....
