RFS can't give permission to use the airstrip because it's not theirs. I'd reckon a phone call from a Tarcutta local to the airstrip owner would be worth a try though. I think the RFS strip is near the Keajura Road, so I'll head out there and see if I can find it. Where abouts is your brother inlaw? (just a rough estimate will do)

Haven't heard back from the RFS yet, but I did find a bit of info on the Tarcutta airstrip. The airstrip is situated on Alloomba, a property owned for generations by the Belling family who are also members of the local RFS. The airstrip is eight kilometres south west of Tarcutta and adjacent to the Hume Highway. There was an airstrip setup near Tarcutta a few years ago for Fire bombing ops. I've shot a message off to a bushie contact to find out if it's still there and available for public use. Might save stuffing around building one.

The first numeral is cloud cover in oktas. (eighths of the sky) 1-2 = FEW 3-4 = SCT (scattered) 5-7 = BRN (broken) 8 = OVC (overcast) I.e 1AC140 = 1 octa (few) AltoCumulus at 14000ft I saw it explained somewhere but can't for the life of me remember where...
