  1. My favorite book is Jim Davis PPL. Weight shift control aircraft flying handbook from FAA- very good and free
  2. Hi Eric, Just started reading your diary... Fantastic job I'm at about 5 hours now myself and with the current westerlies have completed most of the Pre and post theory and can't wait to get flying again... Microlights need ideal conditions.... I do sometimes think I should write down as much as I can remember from my lessons as a lot of info gets forgotten and I wish I could record it!! I'll make some notes nw for the rest of the journey... Regards Mark
  3. Darn, I wish I didn't just get mine now - a lot of cash for very little But need it to fly from Albion park rail
  4. Sadly, my wife is not interested in any of my hobbies and has no hobbies of her own.. She has taken to PT like a raging brushfire in summer... So, alone I go fishing, motorcycling, golfing, camping and triking... Occasionally one of my two daughters will come along (but I'm sure it's just because they feel sorry for me rather than wanting to go!!)
  5. Wanted to fly when I was a kid. Didn't get into the defense force academy so became a civil engineer instead... Now I got a trike!!!
  6. Bought my season of Flying wild alaska from eBay (Aussie DVD version) for about $40 Should be here soon... Can't wait
  7. Glad to stand corrected! It is possible to get insurance for your trike! Go get it! Mark
  8. Matt, Thanks again, I got insurance via Wayne... He is a great bloke and so helpful! Highly recommended!! Regards Mark
  9. quote="shafs64, post: 223681, member: 1030"]you can buy it on ebay. Thanks, I'll have a look !
  10. Wow, sounds very interesting.... I haven't seen it, but that will change soon... We don't have foxtel but I'll get the series somehow
  11. Thanks, I'll try them again too to see who gives the best deal - if any
  12. Anywhere in Australia is better than say Canada...
  13. I know, I thought it was pretty funny... And since I couldn't think of a funny signature myself, I used her interpretation of trike... I did show her a video of one taking off and flying first so she got the idea...
  14. You obviously have a very insightful daughter Mark . Yes, I thought she hit the nail on the head with that description!! They can really simplify things nicely...
  15. I just wonder how you go about learning this... very quickly I imagine... Incredible place to "fly" like this... but it aint for me!
  16. this forum always flushes out the pros and cons of every post.... thats why its great!
  17. I assume the limit was put in place for learners and therefore should remain in familiar territory so that you will know where you are and can find your way safely back to the airfield. or maybe so you stay within view / radio range of your CFI?? 100NM is a fair way to be just flying with no actual destination in mind
  18. Thanks Matt, Very helpful - Ill call him tomorrow. Mark
  19. Mines a snippet of a random larger picture i just snapped before going on a trial flight in a trike I just bought from Airborne. Turned out the cropped image is kinda cool... on the day, my mind was anywhere but focus on taking top notch photos... Mark
  20. Id say not wise... if you get sick of flying in circles, I'd just get a NAV qualification asap!!
  21. Thanks... Tried them.... No luck... Seems they don't like trikes! (anymore)
  22. I haven't even had a go in the front seat of mine yet.... Maybe if I attach it to a jab, then I can get insurance...
  23. Thanks David, will check again... All I can say is lucky I got a cheapish second hand trike... I'd hate to leave $65 trike lying around!!!
  24. All, ive done the ring around and the end result is NO ONE in Australia will insure microlights There are 5 insurance companies: - Alliance - QBE - Asset - Chartis (AIG) - Catlin I also contacted a couple of brokers whom confirmed no way to get insurance. The only broker who agreed to look further afield (London) was AON (Julia Cliffton) 02 9253 7728, who was polite and a pleasure to talk to! Broker, CIA (Civil Aviation Insurance), Aaron 1300620520, was also helpful in advising that they can no longer get insurance for gyro copters because there is not enough take up on insurance as two total loss claims wiped out any premiums collected. Other brokers contacted (who have not responded since emails sent 27/05/2012 are: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] So, in conclusion, unless Julia can come up with something, we are stuffed! Regards Mark
