  1. Semi class (similar to the B767/757) was fitted to the A300-600 ( what Compass Airlines Mk1 operated) and in the A310. The early A300's that TAA/Australian/Qantas operated were steam driven like the photo above. Side sticks and all glass appeared with the Introduction of the A320.
  2. No. The flight started in Proserpine with the stop in Cooly only to refuel.
  3. Have a look at the numerous videos that have been posted on YouTube from RA-Aus pilots. These videos clearly show there is a lack of understanding of VA as many of the videos clearly show the pilots crusing and descending with the airspeed right up in the middle of the yellow arc and at times the pilots are turning/rolling rapidly as well as flying very close to turbulence generating clouds.
  4. Good points 68volksy. In the ideal world the investigations would be carried out by the ATSB, just like the NTSB and UK AAIB carry out all aicraft accidents/incidents in the USA and UK. To get the benefits of having the ATSB investigate, a culture shift within RAA is required. All pilots, flying schools etc need to be more accountable for their actions. This accountable would require everyone with RAA to understand the importance of training and compliance. Reading through recent threads such as the crash in SA and the subsequent threads on VA and what weather pilots are using highlights problems with training standards and compliance.
  5. Nice little airport just south of Newcastle has just been purchased by an aviation group. They (Matt Hall and Co) might be open to the notion of having RA-AUS HQ based at Aeropelican.
  6. Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like there is only one RA school operating at YRED at the moment as the hangar that Freeflying/adventure flights operated from is empty. The other new school is a GA school, operating from the old Fly Redcliffe hangar and they are operating a PA38, C172's, PN68 and a PA31.
  7. What happend to your Redcliffe plans?
  8. Noticed a new flying school at Redcliffe today called Air Queensland. They are in the hanger at the western end of the airport, which was used by another school (that went bust) last year.
  9. Rather than being an aircaft issue, the pilot could have suffered a serve medical condition ie heart attack (happens in cars).
  10. It's been a while since flown then the 737, but from memory the target speed during an emergency descent was Mmo/Vmo with full speed brake out. In this config you will easy do 5000 fpm if not more.
  11. I wasn't taking about the ferris wheel incident.! As this thread is about a crash at JCW, that's what I was talking about. The ATSB have not listed the recent JCW crash so theyappear not to be investigating the JCW crash.
  12. ATSB lists the accidents they are investigating on their website and this accident isn't listed so I don't think they are investigating it.
  13. I was there today and was surprised by the lack of aircraft. It looks like space had been set aside for a lot of aircraft but none turned up. I left about 1230pm after spending 2 hours there. I would have thought the aero club would have run joy flghts, but there were none other than in helicopters. Didn't see any flying schools at all including a no show by Flight Options with the Skycatcher, even after they adverstsed they were coming. In the past when I was working at Bankstown we ran cheap joy flights (1 circuit) and we were flat out. We made sure we had 3 pax in the 172 or 5 in the 206 for each flight. Surprised there was nothing from the Army (other than the museum stuff), considering they are just down the road. My son enjoyed going on the Dash 8 that Skytrans had on display.
  14. The crash occurred at the entrance to one of my relatives property (the boarding kennels next to the airstrip). One relative received 3rd degree burns on their legs while trying to free the pilot. RIP Terry.
  15. It's one of the original hangers, which had an update in the 80's so even in the early 90's it was looking old, but not as old as in the photos above with the stains added for the movie.
  16. If you ever get up to the Sunshine Coast, there is a fixed base C172 sim (CASA cat b) at Nooseville. I've flown it a bit latter (helping the owner out) and it's very close to the real thing. I've even sent my son solo in it. It's a real C172 fuselage with all 4 seats in it, so you can take friends/family in with you.
  17. 20 years ago I was instructing with Illawarra out of that hanger.
  18. Hi Jennifer, I did come up to Gympie (done on short notice), to have a look around but didn't get a chance to catch up with you. Did get to see the Ercoupe as it was parked on the grass. I'll try and get up that way soon. Thanks GAFA.
  19. Turboplanner, if you have nothing to add why reply, so bugger off, I'm sure I have far more experience flying aircraft then you. Since march I have flown the C162, but it's VH. I'm also a full time airline pilot and prior who spends a lot of time away fom home, so I haven't had time get out and see all the schools in the area. Thanks everyone else for providing useful information.
  20. Hi rdarby, Is that with Freeflying Redcliffe? I've tried to contact them, but no luck. Their website is under construction and each time I've been out to the airport the hangar is closed. I've sent them messages asking for the rates (dual and private hire) but they still haven't got back to me. Re gofly also looking at them, but I see the Texan (what I wouldn't mind flying) they use at YCAB is up for sale.

    P92 Eaglet question

Texan's do look nice and there are a few nearby as well, plus a piper sport (it has toe brakes). I can understand the use of handles in cheaper aircraft, but when aircraft such as the P92 Eaglet are fitted with class cockpits and cost a few $$$'s to purchase why not have toe brakes as standard. There is a VH P2008 in the area so I might go and fly that.

    P92 Eaglet question

Thanks dazza, saved me a trip to the airport.

    P92 Eaglet question

So would I, coming from GA/Airlines background. There's one close by that I was thinking of going out and get checked out in. I might go out to the airport and have a look. I think the rego is 24-7600.

    P92 Eaglet question

All the stuff on the Tecnam web site says they have toe brakes and all bar 2 of the flight reviews I've found also say toe brakes. The 2 reviews I found were from here in Australia and they said toe brakes were optional hence the question.
