  2. You'd reckon the airlines could afford a 'spot' tracker and annual subscription..
  3. I found the same so I relogged my iPad and it will stay that way for now.
  4. When I mentioned at B & S being used in the Backyard Flyer, I was generalising. It may well be a kohler.... Also I wasn't saying the backyard flyer was a 7k machine when it was brought to our attention that it is in fact 19k. A cluey bloke might be able to build something like this from plans for a lot less than 19k.
  5. At 55 knots, each cross country mile is rather long
  6. I've just downloaded the new Ozrunways android app, RWY, into my Samsun Galaxy S5. This looks like a beauty. Easy to log in using my existing details and this allows it to download charts etc. It should be a very handy back up to the iPad.
  7. I'm pretty sure this is Gary Morgan's thread. He builds aeroplanes. Something like this may be pretty economical to build. It's structure is simple. Perhaps instead of a welded aluminium tube frame (of which I'm not a fan), a riveted tubular frame. It is powered by a briggs and stratton 'v' twin engine, direct drive, probably around 35hp.
  8. Maybe something like this. It looks like a lot of fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Rf7ttso0Fw
  9. Smooth running Quiet Sounds like a real aeroplane engine Fuel efficient
  10. I think the majority of Jabs would have no more than one CHT probe fitted.
  11. It, 'heart bolt', is a misnomer anyway. The so called 'heart bolt' of a hang glider refered to a bolt that went vertically throuth the cross bar centre plate and the keel of the older gliders like a Moyes Mars 170 (not the 150 o 190 since they had floating cross bars). All subsequent developments of hang gliders had floating cross bars which assisted with 'billow shift' which is part of how a hang glider turns. So, the big import bolt that attaches the trike mast to the wing is a HANG bolt.
  12. Therefore most bolts on Trikes should be known as 'heart bolts'. I can't think of many that would not result in a stopped heart if they failed.
  13. I'm pretty sure that when Jab did this mod they called it a 'spider' fitting - made out of steel and used in conjuction with 3 dowels and 5/16" screws. And it was a few years ago.
  14. Why would we want to have our HQ based in a control zone where heavies operate anyway? Perhaps we should be looking more seriously at pooling our resources with other sport aviation groups such as the HGFA, GFA, Rotorcraft, SAAA and so on.
  15. Mate, your posts are spot on. It's very unfortunate that there are some people on this forum who have poor personal communication skills and fly off the handle regularly with highly emotive responses, generalisations and offensive remarks. In fact, at the moment I feel like making a comment about the relationship between peanuts and monkeys but that may not be appropriate.
  16. How many flywheel bolt failures have there been since the upgrades were introduced? Are these failures happening to both solid lifter and hydraulic lifter engines? I wouldn't be surprised if these failures are directly related to detonation too. The failures in valve retaining components should not be hard to rectify.
  17. Or in the absence of evidence, just discredit the opponent in the discussion. :)
  18. :plane:QUOTE="gandalph, post: 462638, member: 6024"]I know. Is Ross really a Major? Is Old Man Emu really a flightless bird? Is Merv really Mozart? Does it matter????? I am a keen aviator
  19. Which single manufacturer is a bigger player then?
  20. Lots of Jabirus flying out of YLTV on the weekend (as usual) including mine. Laurie
  21. Me too re signing of the petition and not yet inundated. I've signed these petitions before and you do get the odd request to sign others. Just delete if not interested.
  22. I was talking to a LAME mate this afternoon and he described Contintal and Lycoming hydraulic lifters to me- sounds like they are about half the size and probably quarter the weight of Jab hydraulic lifters. Laurie
  23. Has anyone seen a 912 hydraulic lifter? If so is it as big/heavy as those used in Jabs? Laurie
  24. Ross, I was just defusing - not interested in getting into an online blue with someone I've never met. Laurie
