  1. I think the windmill was a wind mill and you shouldn't take off at the end of daylight hoping to find your way home. That's the one you are referring to Alf? Laurie
  2. When I started flying trikes in the late 80's we used to be able to brag about how safe they were, no control surfaces, everything triangulated so very strong, no fatalities, the safest aircraft! Up the performance and up comes the risk with it. Laurie
  3. Most of my trike time is in a Pegasus Quantum with Q2 wing and Pegasus Q with a Q wing. Both these machines were sweet, particularly the Q. I have also flown and Airborne Edge (very ordinary compared) and the streak 3 which was the closest in harmony with the Q2. I also had an Airborne with the old Arrow wing (based on a Moyes GTR) and it was very poor.
  4. Damage to the propellor could indicate whether or not it was running - that is evidence.
  5. These whingers will change their tune when/if they find themselve in dire need of medical aid and transport to the best trauma facilities - the terrible helicopter noise will be the best sound they've ever heard.
  6. I just thought the driver must have been a tail dragger pilot with that sort of skill.
  7. Things are a bit different at YLTV. There are 26 Jabiru/Camit powered Jabirus there including mine along with many other Jabiru powered aircraft and they spend a lot of time in the air. They even venture off on trips of great distance, Australia wide (as I have in mine and plan to do so again this year). There is also a beautiful RV7 that has been flying now for years and I don't know if it has ventured far from the circuit.
  8. I don't regard a 48 degree turn onto final with a 1700 fpm decent rate a slow decending turn.
  9. The risk of stalling the elevator? Jabiru's have 18 degrees up elevator if my memory serves me correctly. Are full flying elevators limited to less than 15 degrees?
  10. This is gliding - Mount Broughton to Mooroopna. 2 hours 35 minutes. No fuel used. Foot launched and landed.
  11. We lanch from a hill known as 'Three Sisters', about 1 nm north of the Flowerdale pub - which coicidentally is a popular landing area. I flew there again on Wednesday but did not get up and away. I ended up driving retrieve for a mate who broke the site record, landing in Warragul.
  12. I think the fire was west of Lorne. I saw no sign of it on Wednesday.
  13. Yesterday I had an enjoyable paragliding flight at Fairhaven, at the start of the Great Ocean Road. After getting a bit bored hanging around the takeoff hill I started exploring to the west. Managed to climb to relatively low cloudbase (orographic coastal cloud) and continue on to Lorne.
  14. Last flight for me, last week. A relatively short cross coutry flight, Flowerdale to Glenburn. The same day one of the guys flew from Flowerdale to Koo Wee Rup!
  15. Starke isn't a field you want to have an EFATO. Something I certainly considered when I visited in my Jabbie. I'm sure Ross was doing the best he could with his situation. Laurie
  16. This is very sad news. I had the pleasure of meeting Ross, along with a lot of other terrific people, at Starke Field in July this year. I wish to add my sincerest condolences for Ross' family and friends who must be feeling quite numb. Laurie
  17. Put that way, fair enough. Trying to get somewhere with some of these beaurocracies is emotionally very draining.
  18. The use of the word 'maggots' in title of this thread is a generalization and offensive. Unfortunately it is a clear indication of the mentality of some of our membership and moderators. Not impressed.
  19. I am running the same set up, separate naca duct to oil cooler with air flow to cooler controlled by butterfly valve. Same observations too, closed most of the time and opened as required to maintain 80 - 90 degrees C.
