  1. I think you are stating the obvious mate. It still appears to me that he applied excessive power to get the thing rolling - gentle progressive application is what is required, not a fist full. The cause was this bloke thinking before he even got on board that he was going to REALLY impress the punters with his amazing skill. Sort of backfired just a bit....
  2. Maybe, but no excuse for this mishandling in my opinion.
  3. After four hang gliders (still have Moyes SX4), three trikes, a Quicksilver GT400, Cessna 150A (which I converted to a Texas tail dragger), Corby Starlet I have settled on paragliders/ paramotor and Jabiru UL450. The UL450 gives me plenty of challenge two seats, some luggage and economy - 100 knots at 13-14 litres per hour.
  4. Very sad for the pilot's family and his life cut short. Lovely looking Sonneri too.
  5. I have several mates using these for powered paraglider (PPG) operations. I will be getting one soon from Adrian of Backpack Airsports to link my headset and VHF on bluetooth for PPG.
  6. I reckon the scariest part of the flight would be taxiing down that concrete driveway.
  7. For big trips I use an ipad air2 but for local stuff just use my Samsung S5 - although I am seriously thinking of upgrading the phone to an iphone 6s plus.
  8. Great to hear from you Mike - it's been quite a while!
  9. I thought he was responding to this comment: There are some who think powered parachutes are really safe but I think that might be wrong. (Teckair)
  10. Rudder. If you lose ailerons your secondary effect of the rudder is roll. If you lose elevator you could use power to adjust attitude or trim.
  11. And when I next see Jo I'll congratulate her on not saying the engine stalled :)
  12. The cruise rate seems pretty high but WOT is about right. My UL 450 cruises at 100 on about 13.5 kph with get 700.
  13. I haven't seen anyone mention 'stall stick position' yet. Stick position seems to me to be the obvious angle of attack indicator.
  14. Working on my paramotoring endorsement - first forward launch attempt!
  15. It looks like an SK model, fuel tank inside and vented out the bottom of the fuslage.
  16. Stall stick position applies to trikes too. Look where the control bar is, it's almost touching the front bar. I'd say the turn was 'over coordinated', ie too much pitch input for the turn.
  17. Hi Yenn. It's funny how we interpret words on a forum. When I read Oscar's post I noticed that it was two days since the original post and that no one else had commented. I took it, and agree with Oscar, that it is notworthy for nothing to have been said about this incident on this forum for two days. Had it been a Jabiru incident (engine or aircraft) we would be on about page five of comments by now!
  18. If you were flying in a Quasar (Pegasus) and straight and level you were very safe. What concerns me with some of these 'topless' winged trikes is that even an experienced instructor has come to grief. That said it there have been plenty of 3 axis instructors come to grief too - Brumby spinning into the ground on a training flight, Thruster wing strut attach failing causing the wings to clap.....
  19. Yes, this is very sad to hear a person with so much experience in multiple aircraft types to come to grief. Trikes used to be regarded as 'the' safest form of aviation...
  20. Very sad news, condolences to family and friends of these aviators.
  21. What's the specific gravity of avtur? I believe diesel engines can run on this.
  22. It was pretty impressive and he had it down pat.
