  1. Can anyone provide a basic summary of how to go about changing a RAA 19 reg to VH reg? If you have already built your own plane, changing over rego, getting the RPL and a CTA endorsement would really open up the country.
  2. Reckon Matt Hall could just about throw a leg over your model, hang on and go for a ride:plane:
  3. Looks great, very inspiring, I might start with the SDS injection and go from there:chuffed:
  4. Hi there Avocet, I'm keen to hear how the injected, liquid cooled head jab 3300 is performing. I think you could be on a winner there. What sort of prop and pitch etc?
  5. Now that I'm flying and able to get about to different fly-ins, looking to camp overnight, am after suggestions as to what essentials to carry on my plane. With a low wing I expect a tarp of some kind to put over the wing and a sleeping bag and mattress for under. Question being, how light weight to go without sacrificing too much comfort, and not letting nasties in overnight. Cheers
  6. I see this is an old thread with no answers but is there such a site now for avgas prices, or would members like to let us know their local price currently and location?
  7. I have installed an MGL Avionics Voyager system with syn vision. It is remarkably accurate in its detail, shows hills, ranges around my area as a direct copy of what is seen out the canopy. The Efis unit also runs the autopilot, will fly routes with as many way points as you like, can use vector or raster maps etc. Fine piece of kit.
  8. Well done Marty, when you see a major component done its time to crack a beer and reflect, dream of flying....... Enjoy building while you can, but you are working yourself out of a job:thumb up:
  9. I am quite happy for negative attitude people to take their ball home from the sandpit, who needs them?
  10. Absolutely positively use mine religiously, for the last 15 yrs, nothing goes into the tanks except thru the mr funnel, but, I must confess, it has never needed cleaning, nor has it picked up any water, all with mogas. So, do I really need it:blink:
  11. Sadly, more happens on internet forums than real life. Engine promises over 2 years late, now an aircraft apparichian.........buyer beware.......I know this Ghananian bloke .......
  12. Ride on mower tyres look great, however get a serious vibration going with a small bit of speed (thruster speed) just ask me how I know...........
  13. I dunno, just my view, but I think it is just a generational thing with young adults now growing up with computers, gaming etc. Older ultralight type aircraft, which there are really a lot of around and quite cheap to buy, simply don't rate with this generation. Not fast enough, too much trouble to learn in, ancient technology(apparently). Hell, these kids don't even want a push bike any more. I tried to get my son interested, he enjoyed the actual flying, but bailed out when he perceived the work load of studying the BAK and nav, met etc as "uncool and over the top Dad" Can't I just fly the thing? Maintenance, preflight, commonsense, WTF? And travel to the airstrip.....I enjoy the country drive......it's just a chore for these young adults, looking at there smart phones all the way. The magic of flight just doesn't have the same impact as in my generation. They just don't seem able to smell the roses anymore............

    Spark Plugs

Technical information Resistor Spark Plugs Resistor type spark plug’s incorporate an internal resistor to suppress ignition noise generated during sparking. The ignition noise which is often known as either electromagnetic interference (EMI) or radio frequency interference (RFI) can disrupt electronic communication signals, effecting the performance of sound systems, cellular phones, two-way radios and even engine management systems. As EMI or RFI can also cause premature failure to other electronic components in a modern vehicle, it is important that resistor spark plugs are used to prevent this possibility. Put simply, when a spark is formed it creates a mini-earthquake in the electronic world; the internal resistor in a spark plug filters out the noise created that may affect electrical components I was getting interference on my microair radio with D9EA plugs so tried these. All noise went away:oh yeah:

    Spark Plugs

Just received an order of 24 NGK DR9EA plugs, all came with caps. $4.66 each.
  16. I did quite a few lessons with greg in the drifter at Boonah, it cost $110 an hour. Way easier to fly than my old Thruster. I paid 20k for a rebuilt Thruster in 2000 then learnt to fly in it, only costing Instructors rates, flew it for 500hrs then sold it for 18k. So, a very cheap way to enter the ultralight game, I would do the same again.
  17. You definitely need an instructor because a- you will try and kill yourself early on in the flight training process and your instructor is trained for this and will save your life b- you will try and break the plane, the instructor will ensure you don't c- you are going to ask a lot of questions, your instructor will have the correct answers d- your instructor will ensure you take off into the wind, not with it, and go with the flow and finally e- you will have a new best friend who has saved your arse multiple times for a set rate:drive:
  18. Well, what a show, on and off the field:oh yeah: Here's me just thinking about the poor copper tripping over right in front of the camera:busted: Those kiwis sure know how to enjoy a day at the beach:roflmao:
  19. Very informative, thanks, but sure that LOP only applies if you have manual mixture control. Rotax and Jab are at the mercy of bing.
  20. I think its just great on behalf of the ATSB to release this information so soon. If I was immediate family I would appreciate this type of information, it removes a lot of conjecture.

    Fuel efficiency

I do have EGT and CHT on all cyls. Cht's sit around 140ish and egt's when in cruise 680 to 700ish.Egt's drop down above 2800 rpm. I too think fuel burn is too low but the numbers seem ok?

    Fuel efficiency

What sort of fuel burn figures are you getting with a 3300? I am pleasantly surprised to be getting 16lph at 2800 with the bing carb, engine serial 1928. I have a sensenich ground adjustable prop and am cruising at 110kts. Anyone else......?
  23. If you can smell gas in the cockpit then you could be in a flying bomb, just waiting for that spark to set it off. If so many jabs have the problem, Jabiru must identify the source and make available a permanent fix. Don't wait until too late.........
