  1. I made my mind up a week out when the weather looked dodgy and I only had a motor bike and no small camping gear to match. 7 hrs on the bike can be a bit uncomfortable.
  2. Ian, From experience sometimes it is better not to know. then when the call comes you are well rested. :-) 2 x Girls over 18 and we all made it unscathed.
  3. Nope, I always understood we are GA with exceptions and Ops manual requirements.
  4. Turbo. I think learn them is too much. We must be aware of them and understand enough to comply. I drive every day but do not know all the road rules. Try to find a concise and up to date version in Victoria of the road rules it is possible but not easy. All Rules usually need a plain English version for the general public. Even the CARs have the CAOs to make them easier to comply with. Having just done a PPL course the VFG was the preferred publication to reference. To apply this to the thread if the Pilot had read any of these publications then being as low as the pictures suggest would be seen as against the rules. Chris
  5. David, I agree with you and this is what I would do in the examples you gave. My answer was probably aimed at the members who think that the system is broken. There are official ways of reporting the incidents that can go via RAA operations manager and if no action then CASA. if a person wants to keep their names then the ATSB. We as an association of members have our peer process to get fellow aviators to keep safe. We also have the official method if the breach warrants it. I like this threads intent as it gives us a way of discussing what can be done and if there is a systemic issue we "could" submit a well thought out solution to our organisation. Chris

  7. David, I thought I would check. I went to the Operations manual, it states in part that we are bound by the CARs and other operations as stated by CASA. See section 4.08 of our associations Operations manual. This is normally pretty easy as we are GA and just operate under some exemptions.

  9. have you thought about buying a lot of 10 ltr containers. The reasoning around this is they are easy to transport, are around what you can lift to a high wing fill point, and each is sealed to keep out water and condensation. It is also easy to refill when half are empty.
  10. YLIL Lilydale www.lilydaleairport.com.au Bus http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/route/view/927 and YPEM Sunbury http://www.goflying.com.au/ No direct bus but 10min taxi then http://jp.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/metlink/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2
  11. Three men were hiking through a forest when they came upon a large raging, violent river. Needing to get to the other side, the first man prayed: ' God, please give me the strength to cross the river. Poof!!! God gave him big arms and strong legs... and he was able to swim across in about 2 hours, having almost drowned twice. After witnessing that, the second man prayed: 'God, please give me strength and the tools to cross the river' Poof!!! God gave him a rowboat and strong arms and strong legs... and he was able to row across in about an hour afteralmost capsizing once Seeing what happened to the first two men, the third man prayed: 'God, please give me the strength, thetools and the intelligence to cross the river' Poof!!! HE WAS TURNED INTO A WOMAN!!! She checked the map, hiked one hundred yards upstream... and walked across the bridge Guys, if at first you don't succeed, do it the way your wife told you! GO AHEAD, SEND THIS TO A WOMAN WHO NEEDS A GOOD LAUGH AND TO ANY MAN WHO CAN HANDLE IT!
  12. Congratulations to the new board members; thanks to all those who stood for election; and finally thank you to those who have served. Ian as a Vic rep thank you for standing up.
  13. Pebs, i agree that the process would work and seems to be in your instance. I probably would like to see a wider reach to make sure we do not die by a thousand cuts. BTW, in principle I support what you are trying to do.
  14. The form is exactly as in the apendix in the Constitution so I read nothing into that. see http://www.auf.asn.au/admin/constitution.pdf
  15. Turbo, the time lines are my issue as well, thats the reason for requesting to put in a title. Either way I would want my vote to count. The form does not allow for changes to the motion so I would expect if it was changed then the motion would need to be re raised.
  16. On another issue has anyone noticed that the first individual on the form does not have room to put their name?
  17. Thanks David, So when I fill out the form do I say Lynn Jarvis or the "Secretary Recreational Aviation Australia Inc" Chris
  18. OK, so we need to vote one way or the other, I will not be at the AGM, who do you appoint as a proxy. President, Secretary, other member, and can I call them by their title or does it have to be a person?
  19. Hi Ian, the 5" is going fine. On the weekend I could not get sound at all. Eventually figured out it was transmitting on FM. The only way to fix was to exit out of MIo to the default OS and then go into FM transmit and untick and save. Does this exist in the layed over OS? as it was kind of good having it come through the radio. It might be worth having a sticky with only hints for use. Oh also how does the Visor work while in the craddle? I'm still only using as a Car GPS and Kid entertainment as flying is a bit off but it still represents good value and I have the Oz Explorer to play with.
  20. try them on Phone: (03) 9739 1406 I doubt they are flying right now. :-)
  21. I saw this back in 2006 or 2007. There was FAA investigation that even at the time was breif. I checked the source of this report and it still comes from a strange source. It seems strange that it is this old the FAA have not reinvestigated and the American Gov and militry have not investigated more.
  22. RD, I am no expert but I have heard it said that an engine must not be run without a load on it ie a fly wheel or a prop. Might be worth talking to some experts. then again you get what you pay for. Chris
  23. Mine currently sits in a temporary 6 x 6.7 garage bought from a company in WA delivered to Vic in 4 days and cost $2,200 to my door. Erecting took 3 hours with 4 working on it, 3 pizzas and a slab of beer. This is it http://www.shelterstation.com.au/product.php?pid=15. It has survived all the rain and recent wind here and is secured to the ground on 8 plates with an auger and stake in each.
  24. Kaz, Does that mean that you always get people in trouble or Ozzie is always in trouble with girls. :-) Chris
  25. And Finally it took 3 years and 8 months to reach my 100th post...... and this is it.....not very note worthy but I thought I would celibrate.
