  1. You're right it looked flapless to me too, having never flown a Boeing I'm not qualified to comment on that type, as for of Airbus the minimum landing flap is three as a normal flap setting or in windshear conditions, airliners are not like light a/c, it takes a lot of concrete to stop as speed increases, remember the old formula 1/2mv squared.
  2. Yes you can as long as the restricted areas are not active, the CTA Step is 4500ft, therefore at that level or below is legal & the Richmond TWR is closed, ie it's a CTAF.
  3. t . When operating on a LJR your usually in a tactical formation (in spread by 1.5nm) & flying at 480kts G/S or what ever you need to make the time on target, i.e. much faster if you've been bounced by the defenders. Don't worry fighters have very good radars & they are constantly searching ahead of then at a significant range from the ground up to 60,000ft, yes they will be able to paint you in your recreational a/c. Can't speak on behalf of the B111.
  4. Once you've downloaded the magazine from ISSUU save it to good reader, I have done this for the last 4 magazines.
  5. I'm in the same boat as you rhtrudder, I don't have a current medical or GA BFR so no CTA approval for me, which means that you can't fly the western vfr route past Cooly, (showing my age there) its in CTA, did Caboolture to Evans Head a few months back, remaining OCTA to the west puts you over very nasty terrain for about 10 mins, not sure I'd do that again, airmanship zero, but I remained legal, not having CTA approval forces us, RAA pilots to fly over tiger country, its just Gold Coast, Coffs & Willytown that are the problem areas, lets hope for a rule change in the near future as stated by our current committee. Fly safe.
  6. Thats great news, lessons learned, "don't download the latest apple updates for a few days to see what hidden problems have developed." Yes we have all become very dependent on all that technology for our day to day ops these days.
  7. All the specs are on the Foxbat web site, weights the same only real difference is 90ltrs of fuel, but then you do have a 25% speed increase for probably the same fuel burn, interesting to see the price, agree attractive looking a/c.
  8. Both the j160 & J170 are the same JAB2. Reference ICAO DOC 8643.
  9. The standard fit is the Y side stick, the yoke option is $AUD595 extra. I agree 100% once you've flown with a side stick you'll never want to go back to that vintage yoke system, love my Airbus & Foxbat flight deck/cockpit.
  10. Got to fly the brand new Foxbat from Caboolture recreational aviation yesterday, took my wife for a $100 hamburger, stunning Qld day, skirted around Oakeys airspace down over Dalby & into Millmerran, only 1.5km walk into town for lunch, then back to Caboolture. If anybody's looking for a place to stop & stretch the legs Millmerran is definitely worth it, a very tidy council aerodrome & friendly country people in town, burger was outstanding too.
  11. Actually rudder trim would be nice.
  12. I'm 6'4" & come in at 240lb in American speak, I suppose think running back in gridiron, I find the cockpit spacious & comfortable, my longest trip was just under 4 hrs, ideally 2 hr legs are perfect. The handling of the a/c is superb & I totally agree with the previous pilots comments, I've been researching the various recreational a/c on the market & in my humble opinion the Foxbat ticks every box for me, at this stage I hope to order in about a years time. Taking the wife for a navex tomorrow for that $100 hamburger if the weather gods stay kind. Only 10 more years till I become a grey pilot nomad, who's counting
  13. Going for a navex on Wednesday so it's back to basics. Now where did I put that wiz wheel?
  14. Just arrived back in Australia & tried my external gps & Bluetooth it on my iPad, yes it's not working, bugger has there been any progress made on this problem.
  15. Most airlines these days have different x/wind limits for the crew, in Dragonair the captains limits are the a/c limits dependent on r/w condition, an FO 20 kts, JFO 15 kts & SO 10 kts. Also go arounds are free, the boys upstairs only want to know about it incase the South China Morning Post rings up if it's a slow news day, due to the position of HKG airport anytime there's a x/wind from the south greater than 15 KTS this place becomes sporting, most of our MAP's are due to hard wind shear warnings on approach, i.e. at landing the wind shear detection function operates from 1300ft-50ft, makes operating in our usual 12-15 typhoons that affect HKG each summer interesting to say the least.
  16. The captain made a good command decision by carrying out a MAP, looking at the video the gusts were what made it unstable, there was no de-crab in the flare so I'm guessing that he may of been well on the downwind side of the r/w & diverging rapidly.
  17. I'm no computer geek, however since all my airline manuals are now only available online we are required to download them ourselves, I did what I do for my Airbus manuals, ie download & then save in Goodreader, this allows you to read the magazine or to word search etc, great for research & references. Goodreader is a free app you can download. Doing the above should solve the problems that others folks have mentioned, I think.
  18. Just reading the March issue & have downloaded the April & May issues, very happy with the electronic version. Downloaded & saved it to iBooks.
  19. Thanks for sharing those outstanding photo's, can't wait to get some navs up there myself, counting down the years:happy dance: until I become a grey nomad & can spend more time flying around this great land. Would be great to keep this post going with more people adding their photo's.
  20. Unlike most airlines we train our SO's to operate in the right seat as a pilot flying not a jump seat warmer, at times when they've pushed to stick forward below 50ft & attempt to put the landing gear thru the wings or reefed back on the stick & select idle I could of used that airbus mod:yikes: never a dull moment.
  21. Great idea, except for as stated above a TCAS RA or an engine failure, unreliable airspeed, smoke & fumes, depressurization, weather deviation, ATC altitude or heading change just to name a few.
  22. Its a sign of the times, most airlines have not issued paper manuals for years, using the iPad with good reader is great, especially the word search function.
  23. Hey Phil, waiting for the hate mail but not a big fan of the Spit, now the F4 Corsair that's a sexy WW2 aircraft, had a few guys up here that used to fly the Frightning, you getting a ride in that has turned me physcodelic green with envy:plane:
  24. Have to correct you there, you missed on important part of the quote "fighter pilot" not just pilot.
  25. You can't have someone outside the flight deck with a by pass code, it defeats the purpose of looking the door in the first place. As mentioned earlier you can open the door from outside with a delay, it takes one of the pilots to select lock which will deactivate the keypad outside the flight deck for between 5-20 mins depending on the airline requirements. Reference the A320 FCOM eg flight manual.
