  1. You should look at an airline flight deck, 1980's all the way apart from the B787 or A350/A380.
  2. That photo even made the local paper here in Hong Kong yesterday.
  3. I too went there years ago before I found out about RAAus, the reception I got was less than friendly & when the guy behind the desk found out I was an airline pilot, well you could of seen the ice form, less than impressed.
  4. CASA=Empire building, you just have to look at the medical & ASIC threads on this site, reminds of that classic tv series Yes Minister.
  5. Just a heads up, as the rules change & ASIC holders are required to have a face to face interview for a renewal WEF August security id have put in place various people at aero clubs, flying schools, airports etc that can verify or certify your ID, so the process can still be all done online with in 7-10 days.
  6. I use windytv to track typhoons up here in HKG, it's usually better at predicting the track than the met office, good for SA. Keep safe, hangars & can always be replaced.
  7. The military, excellent training, the latest & best training aircraft, training is very cheap i.e. FREE & in actual fact they pay you. On the downside being in the military is not for everybody, training is tax payer funded therefore failure rates very high, you must progress at the rate that is expected otherwise you get scrubbed, also its a 12 year commitment once you graduate, he'll be early 30's & looking very good for the airlines if thats what he wants.
  8. Jeez Spacesailor you must have one large bladder or carry a p#ss bottle?
  9. Yes Frank you are 100% correct, I fly RAAus by choice & want nothing to do with CASA, the class two medical or a BFR in a VH a/c. So I guess I'll just have to wait & see.
  10. CASA have set a precedent by allowing RAAus students to operate in CTA i.e. Class D, therefore they will have to grant us CTA approval with the relevant training for those that don't or haven't held a RPL, PPL etc. I for one hold a current class one medical & ATPL, minor problem it's from an overseas authority, all my Australian licenses apart from RAAus expired in 1999, so I'm in the same boat, waiting.................hopefully it will happen this year.
  11. Honestly try the military option, if that's not possible get a trade & fly for fun on weekends, it's sad but true, the profession has been destroyed by the bean counters.
  12. Redcliffe aero club are doing a mass fly in there soon for lunch, give them a call & tag along.
  13. Why does it take 6 weeks to get an Aus Check with your application when security id can get theirs done in a matter of days? Then another month to get a card printed by government outfit, sounds like a complete cluster #### to me.
  14. Security ID will send you your new ASIC, in the post pack they include a self addressed envelope for you to return the old card, as I've said it doesn't get any easier than that, I still can't believe how difficult some agencies make this relatively simple process.
  15. As mentioned on previous threads, avoid going through RAAus or CASA, use a third party, I've used securityid.com.au for my last three renewals plus the initial of course, all done online & you get your ASIC within 10 days from applying. Obviously a bit late for you now but think about it for your next renewal.
  16. Jeez, how do you stop on such a slippery surface? It's difficult enough to walk on let alone operate an a/c, well done.
  17. You definatly get spoilt with 2 engine jets, even in the sim at 40 degrees celsius & MTOW after a V1 cut obstacle clearance never a problem, if is is just follow the company designed engine out procedure. My 5 hours in the Duchess to do my CIR was an eye opener with regards to the limited performance of these a/c, I would hate to be in one at MTOW.
  18. Just quoting the FAA Reg that do not require any single engine climb performance for light twins <6000lbs OR have a stall speed of 61kts or less. Again with limited GA experience I wouldn't have a clue what a/c types that includes?
  19. Speaking with a total of 5 hours on GA twins there is no requirement to achieve a positive climb gradient for the second segment, i.e. The remaining engine will only take you to the crash site depending on the weight at take off.
  20. Sorry to hear that Peter, the easiest way is using securityid.com.au Fill out your personal details on their web site & get you documents certified at the post office for $4 then email it all to them. It's that easy.
  21. Yes sir you are 100% correct, however from their web site they (CASA) will fine you for not having a valid ASIC when required, just looked at the fine, it's $550 each time, still have never seen or been approached by an ARO even after requesting parking information from them as just mentioned by gareth in the post above. Yes I have a valid ASIC which was just renewed, like all my previous renewals (three) it was seamless & took about 10 days to receive my new card from the renewal request, why change things if it ain't broken.
  22. This is getting absolutely ridiculous, I mean how many light a/c or GA/RAA type pilots have committed a crime let alone a terrorist act on an airfield that has RPT ops in the last 50 years for example, I think its zero, nil, none, nadah, zilch. What moron would make the process more complicated than as mentioned in a earlier post getting a passport, isn't the terrorist choice weapon trucks these days.
  23. Or an L2/L4 as recognised by RAAus.
  24. Lets all hope commonsense prevails & the changes happen soon, personally I think it will happen in conjunction with canceling the requirements for an ASIC.
