  1. Yep! If you're bouncing about in your sit, it's bumpy. That's what I look for in my videos rather than what the horizon is doing relative to the aircraft.
  2. Well, after reading this thread I feel less alone. I hate turbulence, especially when it's stopping you from updating your flight plan and making simple things like changing the radio frequency a challenge. I video every flight and its interesting to see that while a flight might seem as rough as guts the video shows that it was relatively smooth. I think that proves a lot of it is 'in your head'. I did force myself to fly hands off on a downwind leg in turbulence on a hot day and the plane never once turned upside down! Thrashing the stick about seems to make things worse. I miss the days when I'd be in the Tobago, 35°C and 30 knot gusty winds, never worried me twenty odd years ago.
  3. As we fly lighter aircraft we need to consider the conditions the plane can handle as much as we consider the conditions we as pilots can handle. I sure as hell don't fly my Jab in the conditions I used to fly the Tobago (hot strong gusty winds in 35°C temperatures).
  4. I spoke to the shuttle quite a few years ago, STS21 I think. It's a shame that such a cool hobby has become so ho-hum these days. Most folks would just say "why not Skype?". I still enjoy it though, catch you on 40 metres some time, Kevin VK5KKS.
  5. No, I disagree. I have flown many aircraft and the J170 is noted for its tendency to float. Fly a J160 then a J170 in the same configuration and same conditions and you'll understand. By the way, your spell checker is as bad as mine!
  6. I purchased a Jabiru J170 from the factory because it was within my price range and I like the endurance, double that of many similar planes. I believe that most problems are caused by owners dicking about with the engines. (Notice I said 'most problems'.) The Gawler flying club regularly gets 1000 hours out of their engines and those planes are flogged by students most days of the week. The fuselage is second to none, and very roomy. The only thing I do not like is the way the J170 floats down the runway on landing, doesn't settle real quick like the shorter wing J160. Anyway, that's my opinion, have fun...
  7. Looks like it's modelled on the Seabird Seeker.
  8. So would I. (choose a wheat field over trees). Your reply seems to suggest I'd prefer trees! A friends Savannah was destroyed when it crashed at low speed into a canola crop. Another friends Jabiru 230 has been flipped over, run into a hangar and suffered a few other assaults but being fibreglass was easily and safely repaired each time.
  9. Why are all the prop tips bent back so far if the engine had stopped. If it were windmilling it wouldn't cause all tips to be bent so much, or would it?
  10. This audio seems fake to me. ATC especially. I do remember this well.
  11. So many folks who flaunt their ignorance it's a worry. I know of three aircraft that landed in wheat (or similar) fields and got wrecked. Two due to rocks and one due to a log. If a Jab went into trees it would do a lot better than most other aircraft. Jabs are know for their tough fuselage.
  12. Bruce Lee's grave, Boeing Factory, Space Needle.
  13. In the same article they call it a Cessna and a amateur homebuilt that was 30 years old. Dickhead media.
  14. A Jab with a Rotax - now that makes sense. Stick around, prepare to be amused...
  15. Is the crackle affected by the volume control (if yes it's before the audio stage). Used to be fun working on the old gear. I am amazed at how expensive a simple AM transceiver for the air bands is. These days they should be no more than $200.
  16. A techo's worst nightmare - intermittent fault. Has the radio been powered up on a bench and left running? I'm a (aging) radio tech and used to fix two way radios when they were the size of shoe boxes and one could identify the various components and stages. I downloaded the service manual for the A200 - seems fairly straight forward. I fly out of Gawler and live in the northern burbs of Adelaide.
  17. What's the problem with the radio?
  18. A friend once said "Live each day like it was your last". Well, if I did that I'd be in jail now.
  19. Is there a max seat weight on LSA aircraft? I know a fellow who is 130kilos dry and no way would I take him up in my Jabiru. He wants to learn to fly but alas, his weight problem will not allow it in LSA aircraft I am sure.
  20. By Jove you have it! Taking the negative root works for me. The part under the root (-n+2)(-n-2) should actually be written as n^2 - 4 I think you'll agree. Weather was nice today so I flew.
  21. a/b + b/a = (a^2 + b^2)/ ab is a better way of showing the math because the ^2 means squared.
  22. By the way aa is NOT 2a - think about it. If a = 3 then aa = 9 but 2a = 6.....
  23. Doesn't work. Did you try before posting this? let a = 2 and b = 3, then n = 2.16666667 Your solution (using my numbers above makes a = -1.333333... when it should be 2.
  24. Shite - I have made a blunder. The original problem should be n = a/b + b/a not a/b + b/c so I apologise there. I think you'll find it somewhat more challenging. It would be nice to be able to enter equations nicely like in Mathcad or similar software.
  25. You cannot move the bc across because of the addition between ac and bb. You have forgotten brackets, n=ac+bb/bc should be n = (ac+bb)/bc The solution involves a quadratic equation. Believe me, if you take less than an A4 page to arrive at the answer, you're probably wrong!
