  1. Your missing the point, we are talking about the DRAFT constitution, opinions on what it should include and how it should be shaped. CASA does not have a say in how our constitution is setup and how we elect our board. The Deed of Agreement with CASA doesn't mention the board, it refers to the President or responsible person.
  2. We are talking about the Draft Constitution are we not?
  3. surely making harder to be elected will help improve the quality of those getting elected. You'd need a third of the voting members to support you to get across the line (assuming 3 board members elected each year plus president). Give the president the power to put forward a vote at the AGM to disband the board should it not be functioning (members already have this option). The board should only be there for policy and oversight, the office should be handling the day to day. a policy manual should also be setup with ways for new and changes to policy incorporated in the constituion.
  4. It's actually ICAO who made the standard for paper licenses, if CASA didn't follow the same system then Australian pilots flying internationally may find their plastic credit card license (or APP) useless. Another reason why we should get away from this one size fits all CASR and split RPT/Commerical Operations from that of Recreational within the Regs.
  5. Well hopefully with you on the board (should you win your election) we will start seeing more "free flowing" of resolutions being published, or are we still to believe nothing gets decided between the 2 reported meetings.
  6. I for one am not questioning the work Maj does (nor any on the board) and I don't think anyone was, what we are saying is consult us before running half cocked and making decisions on our behalf (as opposed to representing). The board is far from open and honest, any news or information we get is normally so outdated the decisions have already been made past the point of genuine member input. Examples, Ops Manual, Sport Pilot, NatFly. Now we will be presented with a plan to change the constitution (and by the sounds of it how it's incorporated), the first we will see will most likely be when it's published as a resolution at the upcoming AGM (2 months notice required). Any submissions the members make can not be incorporated, we will either have the option to agree or disagree and face another 12 months of no result on this front. Why does everything always have to be so secretive with the board.
  7. The board don't think they are there to represent the members, but act on our behalf.
  8. What's the point of releasing something for comment when it's "finalised". Sorry but the Board does not have a good track record in releasing final documents without involving members (Ops Manual v7 and MARAP comes to mind). When was the last time anything was released to the members and submissions/comments invited prior to the final decision been made. When was the last plebiscite taken from the membership to see when what the members actually wanted? You misunderstand me, the forum is being used as an electronic board meeting (which is good and i support it), however the reporting of such decisions is NOT been made as per the constitution. Any decision the board makes, whether it's by phone, face to face or forum MUST BE REPORTED to the membership. I've given up contacting because the emails either go unanswered or get the standard "we'll do better in the future" response. The board has made no effect to canvass the membership, at least CASA pretends to take an interest.I doubt many of the 10,000 would even be members if CASA didn't make it a requirement under the CAO.
  9. It's great that the Tech Manual is getting reviewed by 2 experienced in technical maintenance. Now imagine if the draft was published to the wider audience of RA-AUS members (whom the document controls) through a NPRM type process, you'd be able to draw on the experience of many and involve the people you are actually meant to be represent (rather then just act on our behalf). Hopefully the reporting of the "board forum" will be covered in the new constitution so it's not used to get around the publishing of resolutions that currently takes place with our open, honest and transparent board.
  10. Maj, why does having 13 make a difference? Surely all members of the board are reading all of the docs and not just 1/13th of it? So it's not like having more board members reduces the work load, just increasing the time it takes to "gather" everyones thoughts. We need a more open board and association that included the members in the discussions rather then just making a draft or decision on our behalf. Although that's what most on the board think they are elected to do.
  11. I did one in Cairns (no exam), it was part of my flight time for training in the C172 and flight review. I'm guessing students who learn to fly in CTA/Z have it ticked off.
  12. Since when has the finer details come in the way of a good CASA story.
  13. I wonder if Ozrunways and AvPlan would come to an agreement to "share" this data, it's already publicly displayed on their website.
  14. All CASA need to do is show that no one has died from a Jabiru Engine failure since this instrument was put into place. I don't agree with this, but as has been pointed out by many in the industry, their only focus is aviation safety. Not about supporting the industry or owners or recreational users. Until the Govt get behind the industry and make the changes to the Act that empowers CASA nothing within CASA will change.
  15. and now he wants OneSky to be delayed... It wasn't too long ago he was blaming RAAF ATC for MDX, yet now it's safer to delay a new system which means Civil/Military can work closer with the same information and make life easier for both ATC and pilots who operate between the two services. I don't think Dick really knows what he wants, other then to make the papers
  16. It didn't self cancel last time, what's changed to think we will be 'lucky' next time around?
  17. ARP takes up a lot less space then Aerodrome Reference Point and as Nev has pointed out been an acronym for some time. Anything to reduce the size of AIP is a good thing in my books. (tackle ERSA next)
  18. RA-AUS don't really control the RPC though, the Ops Manual can only be changed with CASA approval and it relies on the CAO passed by CASA. I don't see the reason why the CAO couldn't be amended to provide an exemption to the requirement to hold the medical when operating RA-AUS registered aircraft in uncontrolled airspace, rather then having to hold a "RPC". You'd still need to comply with the Ops Manual (in regards to operating the aircraft) and still need to be a member, but you don't have to administer a separate "licencing system" in parallel. You need to get CASA onside to make the changes, but isn't that why we all pay money to a pilot association? FAA, EASA and NZCAA are all looking at winding back medical requirements for recreational pilots.
  19. Forget the medical issue for a minute, what disadvantage does the RPL have?
  20. Maybe that's a flaw in RPC training (not including IF), clearly CASA believe it's required for VH aircraft. How much of the $3000 was spent "learning" a new aircraft type? It's still my opinion that RA should do away with the RPC and work on transferring all members to RPL, keeping the exceptions for operating UL aircraft and medical requirements.
  21. Who are these members that are against it? are any running for election that like minded people can get behind?
  22. Cause his time at CASA was so successful... dunno why all these ex-CASA are complaining, they didn't do anything good when they had the power too.
  23. That sounds expensive, although I'm sure they will learn a lot from the experience
  24. Maybe we could get the postie to do the mail runs in Rubbish Trucks, ofcourse they would get trained in how to operate and drive the machines, we don't have the staff to cover his time away from work so suspend all mail delievery for December so the training can take place.
  25. Yet will still be sued should 2 aircraft prang. Hope you had the correct permissions to be operating on an aviation frequency in other then flight conditions. An Aerodrome Flight Information Service is provided in Port Hedland and CA/GRO at Ayres Rock, has anyone any experience with dealing with either? If traffic levels warrant then this would make more sense then having random people making radio calls.
