  1. I'm sorry but I don't see how the current system has a personal touch. As long as I have a point of contact to express my concerns and suggestions it doesn't matter where they live. Can you give some real "local" examples that would come under RA-AUS responsibility? The CEO and President should be the face and be doing diplomatic visits. Board members should be engaging the members to represent their views.
  2. Well being a national group that operates across the country, what effects me in Cairns should also effect me if I lived Sydney, if you need a "local club" feel I would suggest an aero club would of interest. Btw the current Rep for Cairns (North Queensland) actually lives in Townsville so it's not like I can just drop in to discuss an issue. The board could make the appointment or recommend the appointment to the AGM to be confirmed.
  3. I'm not so worried about where the director lives, the best person for the job. What concerns me more is how those people are selected. Representing the members interests it seems only proper that the members get to vote. Remove the "appointment style" or at least reduce it to 3 board members with the remaining 4 elected by the membership.
  4. Didn't a previous President have a legal consultant who provided advice that even after multiple member requests has yet to be disclosed? Last I heard the Board and current President still haven't been able to see the "advice" paid for by the members. I don't see why we need a clause on paying directors to "future proof". If you want paid directors in the future, raise a resolution and let the members decide then. We've had in the past examples of board members having to resign to take up paid jobs at HQ, with this proposed change, directors could be paid for their service, including working at HQ (i.e. CEO could be a director, a director could be hired to consult on putting in a safety management system)?
  5. Not enter the runway unless you are assured of departure prior to their arrival, in this case the arriving aircraft wasn't known so no way Russ could be at fault. But had the guy answered his first call with his downwind call then for sure I'd expect the departure to WAIT. Normally I'd offer to extend my downwind if someone called to backtrack.
  6. if you can't backtrack and depart prior to the arrive, the rule means you wait until he lands and is clear. The grey issue here is you were not aware of the arrival until you were already backtracking, bad airmanship by the arrival for not answering your calls or extending his circuit. At the end of the day your safety should be number 1 thought, if you didn't think the guy would go around I'd be getting out of his way. If the aero drone requires a radio, maybe put in a report for his lack of responding to calls. Might make mention of your scan of the circuit for aircraft with none visible
  7. Yeah does seem strange you'd go live with a database that isn't yet complete, but maybe members without the complete import haven't been given access yet. My email is up to date and not had anything yet. Just hope the members portal isn't been used yet to meet the constitutional requirements (notices to me members etc) until all members have access...now where are those board minutes?
  8. Has anyone come across yet the resolutions for the Board AGM last month? I've yet to receive my new website login details so maybe they are located there? Congrats should go to @DonRamsay who appears to have been elected to the position of Treasurer, seems we may not need to appoint people to the Board since we've managed to elect a few "company-type" people.
  9. I've not got mine either yet ("M"), maybe they are going via number?
  10. It must have been your ozrunways because it wasn't all active, r639 was the only one I've come across today.
  11. Your Woolworths example is flawed in that their board directors are paid positions and generally have a financial incentive in the form of stocks/bonus pay conditions. Keep up the good work, I'm sure V2 will be much better now your on the board.
  12. How does one prove depression is a result of being stuck in a Ferris wheel? I feel for all involved but a fear of show rides?
  13. Site looks good (public side), haven't yet been given login details. Came up well on the iPhone too. There was a couple errors in regards to the FAQ RPL vs RPC that I was going to email through at some stage after i double checked the details.
  14. Members were made aware months and months ago when the board announced the project and approved spending of $200k to update RAA systems
  15. There was a good article recently (maybe in Sport Pilot?) of Americans getting better results from their Jabiru Engines, they concluded this was down to better systems in place for monitoring (and recording) engine performance (temps etc).
  16. All good stuff, but what incentive does the professional board have in keeping our costs down and our privileges up? If they not recreational flyers, aircraft owners, instructors or aviation inclined? You could argue the CEO fell into this category yet has performed extremely well, but he has been hired and is paid to do so. The draft allows for Directors to be paid, is it the intention for this to be so, and if so where is this money planning on coming from? It's great the board and CEO are trying to change for the better, I just wonder are we going to far in setting ourself up more as a company or agency rather then a members association. CASA has a professional board and it hasn't really done them wonders, maybe we need the membership with the finger on the button.
  17. This draft has no democratic processes. The board select their own, members have no say or control. Say we vote for Joe Bloggs to be removed from the Board, what prevents the board appointing him back? I don't like the draft, I think there are too many separate issues which the members need to decide on before any resolution. Company vs Association. Elected vs Appointed. Recreation vs everything with a human that may fly (or shoot into space).
  18. not sure what ICAO has to do with the discussion but NZ seem to manage find having the one system for both GA and Ultralights.
  19. Great idea but doubt it will ever happen, flight training is a big part of GA and I doubt they would want to give up the first 20-25hrs of business. RAA can't issue RPLs like CASA does but it could take on a flight school/club role and train members to RPL level instead of issuing RPCs. It's main purpose would be then to administer aircraft registrations for home built, LSA and weight shift type aircraft. All flown from RPLs, the sticky point is removing CASAs requirement for Class 2 or AvMedical.
  20. It's interesting that it includes authorization for pilots operating under the CFI and not just students like most Class D operations. So you can get your RPC and still keep flying through the school/club.
  21. https://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2015L01166 Maybe?
  22. One could argue that the RPC doesn't have a MTOW limit (like the RPL does), what is limited is the type of aircraft RA-Aus can register (currently I think there are 3? All with different MTOW limits).
  23. I don't see any harm in allowing other "recreational" classed aircraft into the association. Yes it may have started out rag and tube ultralights but theres no harm in growth and change. As long as current aircraft and pilots aren't excluded what's the problem? Get an increase of the LSA limit to 700kg (keep the stall limit), lets get amateur built aircraft up to 1500kg (put in limits if we are worried about overly complex aircraft, single fixed gear stall limit etc etc). Trade in the RPCs for RPL with self assessed fit for flight medical. Happy days.
  24. Well i wasn't too sure because it was a quick read, but at first it implied to me that the Board would choose the directors (from nominees) and the members would "rubber stamp" their decision by way of vote at the AGM. With the members given the power to removed any directors (however the Board couldn't). But I've yet to come across anything that defines how elections or votes take place, who is able to vote or nominate (do they even need to be a member). To be quite honest I'm disappointed with what has been presented, there doesn't seem to much representation of the members at all in this draft, but maybe that's the way the association wants to head (i.e. be like CASA). Don, I'll attempt to put together a submission early next week and CC you into it (might even post it here as more eyes and heads the better chance of getting something that will actually pass the membership)
  25. It was more questions to others who've read the document whether they noticed the same. If I'm a member post the AGM and when the consolation starts I'm sure I'll make a submission (and vote either proxy or in person)
