  1. So what you are saying is "Yes, but No" ?
  2. I have not tried this Pokemon game but in some idle YouTube time this video popped up, anyway it might cause a comment or two:whistling:
  3. I thought that to start with and then had the thought that if the balcony uprights failed the bottom of the ladder would head backwards and your nose would go downwards:hide:
  4. Well personally I think we should all be able to express ourselves well enough without it, but maybe I'm a tad simple?
  5. Settle down folks, no need to get to heated. At the end of the day, even though the loaders have been given the blame, the pilot/driver is responsible for making sure their vehicle is legal/safe. If someone had died and you were driving a vehicle that was illegally loaded you would be taken for a ride. Take a look at trucks, which is Geoffs specialty, if they are grossly overloaded and kill someone both the driver AND the loader (assuming they are different people!) will have questions to answer which won't end well for either of them.
  6. For me I weigh up a few things before doing it. Firstly, just how far is the start of the runway from the holding point? If there is not much backtracking to do then I will happily wait at the holding point but if it is a looong backtrack then I will definitely consider following the aircraft in front of me. Secondly I consider just how busy it is and take into account whether there are aircraft in the circuit nearly ready to land, for example if it is immediately after an airshow or similar and there are a lot of planes ready to takeoff but none coming in then of course having multiple aircraft backtrack at the same time makes sense, but on the other hand if there are a couple of planes on base then it could cause problems which could be easily avoided by waiting. each time will be a little different, I do however make a habit of asking the pilot in front if they are happy with me following them if I think it is a good option and haven't had a negative response yet but if I do I will be more than happy to wait, at the end of the day we want it to be as pleasant as possible for everyone.
  7. I was fairly sure that it was 100 feet. Ps 100metres is closer to 300 feet than 30 and is a bigger distance than 100 feet.
  8. Weight restricted MTOW Might not hurt for people to read through this thread so we are not repeating ourselves.
  9. It comes back to the pilot, it is his/her responsibility to ensure that all relevant ad's/sb's are complied with. If it came back to the manufacturer and they had to cover for that all small manufactures would fold up immediately and you would cripple aviation even further than it already is. As far as getting rotax notices go I am fairly slack but Ole and the aak crowd have always let me know of any new sb's that affect me so if you want to add an extra layer get in touch with a reliable rotax service agent and get on their mail list so that they can help keep you up to date. Even if you are perfectly reliable in your checking it never hurts to have a reminder from a second reliable source.
  10. On that note we travelled over 600klms with a trailer half loaded with timber with the hitch unclipped and only noticed after we unloaded the timber and the trailer departed when we crossed a railway line...
  11. I know some people who don't put their feet on the pedals:no way: (a not so subtle over exaggeration of nose wheel pilots:whistling:) But on a serious note I also take my feet off the pedals to stretch on a longer flight, I can wiggle my feet past them and get full leg extension which is a glorious relief to the calves! Of course this is not done at low altitude or in bumpy conditions
  12. 5hrs is my longest time aloft, I was on what is normally a 280nm 3.5-4hr straight trip (home to the in laws) but there was a nice wad of fog and cloud on the direct path so I flew west to Coonabarabran where I stopped and reassessed my options then took off heading further west to coonamble before heading south (adding around 45nm to the trip). All in all it was six hours but I had stretched my legs at Coonabarabran which had taken me an hour from home. That is in the Hornet, I normally cruise at 70-75 but this trip I was sitting on 55-60 indicated for a couple of reasons. I had to consider fuel burn and at altitude there was a 20knot headwind so I was only getting 50knots across the ground and at that burn rate I would have run out of fuel short of my destination so I ended up flying low 700-1000agl where it was bumpy but with not much headwind so my 55-60 indicated ended up averaging 55 over the ground which was enough to get me there with most of my reserve left. 5 hours is too long for me, 4 hours is half doable but a quick stop every 2-3 hours makes things a lot more relaxed.
  13. I did a little hacking and found the image of babe in a bikini, you can thank me later:thumb up:
  14. It was Ian who started the new off topic section specifically for topics that are not aviation related. i know this topic started in the laughter section but the way it has turned into a typical political mumbo jumbo I think it is time it moved to the off topic section.
  15. How about you all discus this wonderful off topic subject in the relevant forum European Union "Divorce" case coming soon,. . .
  16. Exactly right. It is frustrating when Tests are written in a confusing way. Our regs are confusing enough without having questions with official answers that, because of the poor way they are written, make students believe there are rules that don't exist.
  17. G'day Damiens You can't go wrong with any of those 3 aircraft IM(biased)O. I own a Hornet STOL and really enjoy it, it is one of the few things that I have never had buyers remorse with:thumb up:. I love the fact it is an Australian made machine and cannot speak highly enough of Ole and his teams customer service:thumb up: they are always more than happy to help and as I have already said I can't speak highly enough of them. The other two planes are also beauties in their own right, Brett (the Aussie superstol agent) is a local in my hometown so I have got to see a fair bit of the superstol and it is a very nice machine and the S20 from all reports I have heard is also a nice rig:thumb up: If you haven't already done it I would recommend a trip to Taree to see the AAK mob (yes I am biased!) and also talk to Brett and have a look at a superstol in the flesh. Anyway like I said you can't go wrong with any of those three aircraft, make sure you keep us up to date with your decisions:wink: and if you do get up to YQDI to see Brett give us a yell and come for a spin in a hornet at the same time:whistling: (any excuse for a fly!) Regards Sam
  18. I didn't think they made the black one anymore? I thought the red bottle (with the same name as the old black) replaced the black bottle.
  19. I can understand the worry of Raa getting more regs BUT I don't see why that needs to be the case. I have said numerous times that I would like more priviledges but not if it comes with a reduction of freedoms. Yes I agree that GA is going downhill but how much better would the lower (non commercial) end of GA be if they had our freedoms? I like to look at it all optimistically, in this day and age with technology making it a lot easier for us to have an effective voice I think it is very possible to wind back the requirements of GA to free it up so it can grow. You only have to look at the yanks and poms to see that it looks like regs have hit a peak and they are starting to 'sensibilise' so I think optimism is feasible. Maybe I am off with the fairies but I think more freedoms/options with no extra requirements is a good thing. Ensuring our freedoms aren't removed in the process is extremely important and of course we need to ensure grass roots flying still survives but don't be scared of getting more priviledges, be cautious and wary and careful but if it won't change our current freedoms in any way then I say go for it.
  20. On those inner skin modules they look like stainless, wouldn't it be better to use aluminium? JUST KIDDING!!!!!
  21. Space sailor RAA is a RAAO. Your current RAA certificate is proof of your membership to RAA which is a RAAO.
  22. When I broke my through bolt I distinctly heard it whereas my pilot pax didn't hear a thing (no he isn't deaf!), i was using Zulus and he was using a David Clark passive set. IMO I hear my engine a lot better with anr than without it. You can still pick the subtle engine note changes and can also pick up other little noises that are missed with a passive set.
  23. They certainly do make a difference, and once you do get used to them and swap back to passive it feels like your throat is cut!
  24. It will vary depending on a lot of things for example if you plan to develope a strip or just fly out of a paddock, also it will depend how aviation friendly your neighbours are and that is not taking into account council restrictions. For me I am lucky for a lot of reasons but mainly because of my good neighbours, if you have cranky neighbours you will have an uphill battle and others would be better versed in the legal channels than myself. I don't use a strip, I just use any farm road or paddock that is 'suitable' so haven't had to get a runway approved. I don't fly directly over neighbours houses and with our little motors (rotax's and jabs) most neighbours are pleasantly surprised at just how quiet they are and I haven't had any complaints. I would say the neighbours are the biggest and main battle, if they are happy you will be fine but if one gets their back up it can cause huge headaches. I will let someone else give advise on legalities but IMO start bribing your neighbours as early as possible, (don't tell them you expect to have a lot of visitors!) try and build a good relationship with them so that they bring complaints to you and not the council. This is all assuming you are not in controlled airspace or something silly
  25. Well I reckon you would get more info out of your board member than on this forum Keith, or give the office a ring, I am sure if you had a specific query they would be more than happy to help. Remember that the changeover to company is only effective at the end of this month (unless I have that mixed up!) IMO stirring up rumours without even a half hearted attempt at getting the truth is unfair to the rest of the Raa membership.
