  1. Hello RAA flyers and others, As part of the RAA growth plan I have in my head I am wanting to consider advertising means to attract new members into the world of Recreational Flying. I am interested in Radio, Television and print media. I would love to hear from any members who have knowledge, links, skills, production equipment or a desire to assist with comming up with some ads for radio, film and print. I can be contacted on email: jim.tatlock"@"bigpond.com less the "" or mobile 0403228986. Regards, Jim Tatlock Vic State Representative.
  2. Hello to all the forumites. Sorry for the delay getting a response up but I have been extremely busy with work and family. I would like to share my opinion of the Feb 9th meeting and subsequent board meeting. Firstly I would like to correct a slight mis-representation. It has been stated on this thread that three board members were not invited to a meeting on Friday the 8th (board get together). This is not an accurate comment. I was not excluded from that meeting but more so chose not to attend. I had clarified that the meeting was not formal and would not be minuted. With that in mind I decided I did not want make that my first interaction with other board members. As to the Saturday meeting I can say I was impressed with the membership and the concerns/comments made from the floor. It was clear to see that RAA members care about the organization and want it to succeed. The motions from the floor are exactly what is needed to begin to get everything back on track. As to the board meeting I attended the next few days there was good and bad. As expected. I do not want to get bogged down on the bad and have chosen to talk about the good. What was apparent is all the board members share the same vision. To make and create a great RAA. The lack of sharing information was discussed and agreement by all to endeavor to open up lines of communications between the board and the board to members. This is clearly a step in the right direction. Further discussion was had around the future and many times the term ‘what the membership wants or expects’ was implemented into conversations. This I found to be very positive. One thing that was lacking at this particular meeting was governance for the future. But again with all that is currently occurring that was not surprising. My honest opinion is we have a long way to go. We need to get a competent General Manager to get the office functioning as an office should. If we get that right then we can begin to work on the future of the RAA and not just looking at the day to day and being responsive. What I would urge all members to do is talk. Talk to your elected reps, other club members and instructors. Get your opinion out there. If you can identify members that can assist (which the current board has begun to do) get them involved. The board needs certain skill sets to grow and grow the organization. I hope after all the negativity this Feb 9 meeting created that at the next elections we have several great candidates running for every state. That to me would be a sign of an organization going somewhere great. Best wishes and please please please fly safe. We have already had too many incidents this year! Regards, Jim Tatlock Victorian Board Member.
  3. Wishing the pilot and rescue team all the luck in the world this morning.
  4. I have a Jab 2200 in one plane and and a lycomming in another. I would fly the Lycomming to Tasmania I would not fly the Jab to Tassie. I had a problem with the JAB (valve failed) at 100 hours. Factory had no time for me except to charge me for the parts. Jabs are cheap. Just don't plan on a high level of support if it fails. I love the airframes. Rotax options would be fantastic.
  5. For the record I have not be been consulted or new of the letter on the raa web site. I will comment further when in front of my computer.
  6. Choose a school that does both. Lethbridge , ballarat are two I can recommend. Stay clear of ba cash marsh. Jim.
  7. Ratchet and others, I agree with a lot you say. Especially 'would casa want us to fail', I would very much doubt that. They will most likely do all they can to assist the organisation. However, if they come to the conclusion under our current leadership and administration we cannot comply with 'their' regs I would propose they have little choice but to remove 'temporarly' our flying rights. If they failed to act I believe they would be placing themselves in a position where CASA could be critisized. And I can assure you that the small group overseeing the RAA will not allow that to occur for long. I do truely hope that change can occur allowing the organisation to prosper into the future. I have high hopes that the members will out of concern for the RAA drive change and I hope as a serving board member I have the opportunity to assist with the future development of our association. Regards, Jim Tatlock.
  8. Is the jab factory likely to be underwater?
  9. My thoughts are with all the eastcoast specially northern nsw and Queensland. Good luck. Jim.
  10. A mature organization should have little problem taking on new aircraft types. The procedures and systems should have been in place long ago. That is where a lot of the problem lies, lack of systems and procedures. In my humble opinion. But I do need to view a lot more to be sure. Jim Tatlock.
  11. CFI I call it damage control. Keep in mind if we fail in our core duties we open ourselves upto civil action. If we lose money to civil action the members will pay. John Smith who is grounded will be unhappy. K Packer who loses significant money and ownes a flying school will attempt to recover that money from the authority being the RAA. The RAA might then increase fees to cover K Packers claim against the RAA. So if the majority of members think that commercial operations should not get priority then please email me or call me. Because I think they need to get up and flying first, I think that is now complete already but can be corrected. The flying schools will create more flyers, more income, less fees to RAA members. Regards, Jim Tatlock.
  12. Brian F. I would like to declare that I have and will continue to push that commercial operations get priority over other flyers to get aircraft back in the air. In fact I pushed this issue to a vote when my posts on the official website worked and it got through just (now I cannot post at times, another story that is). My reasons are simple, some lively hoods will rely on commercial operations and the implications of not getting them flying first could have a greater detriment on individuals and in the future the continuance of the RAA. If you want to discuss this point feel free to call me. Regards, Jim Tatlock Mobile 0403 22 8986

  15. I'd like to point out that some board members do not support the actions of others. I have raised constitution issues privately with emphasis on actions in a Legal and Ethical manner to which the outcome was not satisfactory to me. Please do not tar us all with the same brush.
  16. For everyones info the secretary has arranged for audio (PA System) at the meeting including recording I believe. Best that members confirm that for themselves on the day but that is my understanding.
  17. It's my intention to fax a copy of all proxies to the office on the Thursday. Regards, Jim.
  18. Pete bess I too would be interested in your statement. It hasn't been discussed at board level, at least not with me. Pm me if you are prepared to talk further on the matter or call me 0403 228986. Regards, Jim Tatlock
  19. Fellow flyers. At this point of time I believe we continue on, hopefully get all planes in the air and see what comes from the feb 9 meeting. It's clear there is a lot of passion for our organization and nobody wants to lose it or have control taken from the membership. Regards, Jim Tatlock.
  20. To be clear hear the information to some degree has been released to me however with the non-agreement of a member who has suggested I have no integrity. At no time have I indicated that I will release the information to the membership. I do however wish to view and research the information because of the varying numbers that have been reported to the membership and I want to be sure we are not over paying. As to the policy that covers me as a director needed to view that for obvious reasons. If board members had been fishing which are words describing what some of my requests have been then some of the problems we now face might have been detected earlier and not causing so much grief. Regards, Jim Tatlock. Vic rep.
  21. Ladies and Gents I can also disappointingly report I am now left of emails that are circulating and the majority of board members have 'ceased' communicating on the RAA board members forum. If this was a small club with 10K in the bank I would have a chuckle to myself. But with the funds and liabilites we have I am very concerned. If things do not alter in the immediate future for the better then I am not sure I am willing to be associated with the board and the liabilities that I as a director might inherit. Yours in safe flying Regards, Jim Tatlock.
  22. Gents and Ladies. Just to give you an idea what you as members are dealing with I have attached a post to a request I made. The request was that I would like to view insurance documents. The original reply I will not post but it was not flattering to me. The "state representative" then realised the gravity of his writtings and altered the reply. He reads these forums and stopped contributing after a few "members" said what they think of his posts. I would encourage him to reply to the membership on this matter. State Rep said "My apologies. I did write a post for this matter but as I know it would appear on a public forum as soon as he read it I chose to remove it. Disclosure of material that could be used to harm RA-Aus is never advisable. Especially to those who have made it clear that they wish to act contrary to the interests of members." JT:- Just for your knowledge this member is not on the Exec but well alligned. If you hear some board members say there are no secrets well you can judge that for yourself. My request was as follows: Attention: The Executive of Recreation Aviation Australia I formally request a copy of all documents relating to the general members insurance policy and my (the boards) professional indemnity insurance including the following: 1. Tender documents including all companies that responded to any tenders 2. Details and any disclosure statements of individual policies 3. Materials that show how the prices are calculated for the policies issued 4. A copy of all invoices received I have reproduced below a section of our board code of conduct which clearly states ‘all board members are entitles to access to the same and complete material.’ Board Code of Conduct 10. Principles of Personal Conduct f. Board members must inform fellow board members of all material matters in their possession that relate to the conduct and management of RA-Aus, including meetings with politicians and public and industry officials. Board members must not make any deals or undertakings with third parties that materially affect RA-Aus without making full disclosure at board level. Board members must not discriminate in dispensing information. All board members are entitled to access to the same and complete material. Regards, Jim Tatlock
  23. Geoff the poll on the other thread will hopefully give us some idea as to the amount of members that will attend. Hopefully then a suitable venue can be source within a few minutes of walking. Regards, Jim Tatlock
