  1. I've got a mate who does just that with VH exp aircraft, before flying my home built for the first time I asked him how he just gets in a plane takes off and flies it back to the ground, his answer, "you learn the plane in the first 20 seconds, then your airborne and have to come back", I did a lot of prep ( me and the plane) before flying mine ,and although it was exciting it really was a non event , Matty
  2. I've dealt with Darren on the rego of my VH exp, good bloke, very switched on and hopefully won't get screwed over by RAA, Matty
  3. I've sent texts and face booked while flying usually on a trip or looking for a free cuppa at some mates places, reading this gave me a thought , I've never face to face called from the plane ,I'll give it a go next time, Matty
  4. And ya going to have to get used to the comments, I considered the plane and did the research on it,,,,,but then I discovered I didn't have enough money,,,,, ;-)
  5. So it's arrived? Cool,,,was chatting with another fella today who knows Dave and the plane, he said Dave is living in Hong Kong ( I think or something like that) and mentioned the plane was ,in his opinion, very well built. I'll ask if he has contact details for the builder, Matty
  6. All that and having an airbus call you a "retarde" just as you go to round out,,,just to much!
  7. What's it worth? Probably $25-35k , in dollars. In value ? Wouldn't be anything under $75k(talking new here) that would come close , except maybe a lightwing, and the twenty grand for a new engine would still be the best value aircraft you'd ever get, Matty
  8. Well, I don't really know if I could, I've got a mate who runs an airline sim and have hit him up for a go, but I know that just about every private pilot lives in hope of that curtain getting flung back and the words" can anyone on board fly a plane" be squealed from a distraught ,but gorgeous ,hostess! And don't be so dismissive of oil and buckets ,,,,someone out there is anxiously waiting for their arrival too!
  9. Came down the coast to port mac , then took the vfr route behind willytown , and crossed over to Bathurst , had a howling headwind , was down to 37 knots GS at one point, not nice !
  10. Coldstream, narromine, white cliffs, noccundra, windorah, longreach, orchid beach, port macquarie, taree, cold stream,
  11. I think flyerme had a supercat, a mate built one aswell I think, ended up crashing it , he flys a Skyfox well so I don't know if the cat was a problem or some other cause, I also have a mate who might be selling his Kitfox soon, nice plane , Matty
  12. Well ,what an interesting thread, I've lived most of my life in QLD, from the gold coast(YUK) to Port Douglas (loved Mossman) and lots of places in between, and now I'm deep in Mexico and loving it (as max smart would say) ,the winter is hard to get used to but the summer is bloody great, I've done a few years in Brissy and hated it, 20 in Hervey bay and while there I couldn't imagine being happy anywhere else, now I've moved I'd never go back, I'd agree with the Melbourne being livable, if all you want is a sunny day then brissy is for you ,but Melbourne is more fulfilling place to live ,,,,and the latte's are to die for !!! aye
  13. It's a mark 1 fugly,,,,aerodynamically challenged but luckily the earth found it repulsive!
  14. Good to hear DP, taking the super D, had a look at YLIL the other day, very nice plane!
  15. A mate told me that that navigating the outback was easy cause all the properties have the names on the roof,,,,,,,,of course at 8500 the houses are the size of a thumbnail, bastard! The qantas system is pretty cool, on a recent trip around the Windorah/Longreach area I was often struck by the thought that I was flying the same track as some of the pioneers, and a formidable country it is too. Matty
  16. The "information seminar" I attended was pretty uncomfortable when the questions started and the CASA experts couldn't answer many of them,,,,lots of feet shuffling and "we'll get back to you " , Matty
  17. I would dump a lot of things before the EAA, it would be one of the best magazines around, along with the website resources, it's a winner, Ive got flights booked and paid for next year and am like a dog with two tails just thinking about it,,,,, Cheers Matty
  18. something involving Casa not actually going to plan,,,,wow ,,,go figure!!!!
  19. You must learn to be completely correct in all things mate , if not there's plenty of help available
  20. Good to hear it worked out okay, the school here is constantly getting the exhaust re welded on their tecnam , Matty
  21. Very true words Gareth,,,I always believed that because of the lack of apprentices one day being able to join a couple of bits of metal together would be a good earner,,,just wish it had happened when I was in my twenties,,,still that sort of dosh wouldn't have done me any good as a kid matty
  22. Thanks fox worker, my mate has contacted coastal without success ,last time we talked anyway, and my jigger isn't a Skyfox, although it does bear a resemblance as do the kitfoxes, when I built the outboard fuel tanks I made them to fit around the ribs and drag wire in the fourth bay, it gives me an extra 30 lt which although it's not faster I can get four hours endurance now , I've also got a mate with a Skyfox that built a bigger collector tank and had it approved as an auxiliary ferry tank, although the Skyfox has issues with mods there is provision in the regs for some stuff just as with any certified aircraft ,just depends on how much money your gonna throw at the problem. Something I'm keen to see is how Coastal will do the spars, I've seen the Kitfox ones and recently had a look at a nude Eurofox wing , the Skyfox spar is by far the strongest in principle , after looking at the Eurofox wing I'm wondering what the future will bring with them, having said that the Kitfox has the claim of never had an inflight breakup, and apart from corrosion issues in the carry though spar I'd say the Skyfox is a stronger airframe, Matty
  23. sure, just thought I'd put it out there, is there a forum specific for them, I find a lot of info that way, other owners can be a great asset
  24. What does the manufacturer say,,,by illegally modifying it you could void your warranty, I'd talk to the people that make it before anything else, matty
  25. No $$$ mentioned yet, I'm interested as well, but more heading down the timber, fabric and welding track, a dying art that may be worth having in a few years time, Matty
