1. Welcome! It can be frustrating learning to fly especially when it seems to take a lot longer hours than first thought. At the end of the day all those hours count as experience. I think it took me around 15 hours to solo. I only did one circuit at first, then 3, 5 etc so it can sometimes feel like a slow process. What aircraft are you converting onto for rpl?
2. Welcome. If you want to hear the pros/cons of jab engines your in the right place! I also like the j-230. Very stable and a grear performer.
3. Welcome! The tecnam looks like an awesome aircraft to fly. Im waiting on the weather to clear as well so I can go flying as well. Let us know how your dad goes with his purchase. Has he checked out the www.bydanjohnson.com website. He is one of the foremost experts on lsas in the us and does great review videos of new models. Best of luck
4. That would be awesome if you can pull it off!
5. Click here for the Itunes link Click here for the Show Notes I would be interested to hear which aircraft are people's favourite from this era of Flying (1950s and 1960s)? Has anyone else from the forum flow some of the below types, what was it like? Today on the show I chat with RAAF Squadron Leader John Laming AFC. In the chat we discuss in detail John’s RAAF service which ranges from captaining an Avro Lincoln maritime patrol aircraft to flying the Governor General and Prime Minister as apart of no 34 VIP transport Squadron based in Canberra. John has flown a huge number of types during his time in the RAAF including the CAC Wirraway, P51 Mustang, De Havilland Vampires, Vickers Viscounts, Convair, DC-3 Dakota and Hawker Siddeley 748. He even once flew a Hawker Sea Fury borrowed from the Royal Australian Navy which was at the time was the fastest piston powered aircraft in the world. 6. Hey I just finished reading Owen Zupp's new book who was on my podcast on episode 8. Owen has written a number of books including '50 tales of flight' but his new book 'the practical pilot' is more educational in nature and kind of like a common sense guide to flying. Owen still keeps current with his RAAUS flying and I think he normally flys a Jabiru (my favourite) and writes for a number of flying magazines in Australia. I found the book helpful as I am new to flying and basically read any material I can get my hands on to enable me to be a safer and better pilot. Anyways check it out, I think it was only 99 cents for the e book version when I bought it. A buddy of mine from the forum was nice enough to send me his 'Meterology' PPL book today so I can learn more about weather for my navigational endo so thought I would pay it forward by giving away 5 copies of the e book to anyone who is interested Just send me a pm and I will shoot it off to you. http://www.amazon.com.au/The-Practical-Pilot-Volume-One-ebook/dp/B00XITNWXW Cheers, Adam
7. Totally agree. Well done to this young man.
8. Great research. If it indeed is much quicker but retains good stol capability then it will certainly be popular. Also the sleek looks might win over other buyers who are partial at to some of the more sleeker looking euro lsas.
9. Welcome. That's cool that your going to get started with flight lessons. I personally don't like heights and I have my certificate now. Are they your rc aircraft, pretty cool!
10. Welcome! I got my certificate in a J120 recently. Great training aircraft. What school are you at?
11. Thanks Gareth. After seeing some of Grant's photos I'm keen to get up in the air, the views are spectacular at dawn.
12. Its official, got my Recreational Pilot Certificate from RAAUS today...

Has anyone had to deal with Balloon Traffic in a fixed wing aircraft? On Todays Episode I chat with Grant McHerron who is a Balloon Pilot and co-host of Australia’s most popular Aviation Podcast. In our chat Grant explains how people can get involved in ballooning, we also talk about the main rookie errors that inexperience balloon pilots make when learning to fly and he also recounts the story about how he started out in the Podcasting world. 14. Welcome. I fly the j-120 and love it. I had alot of trouble with final/ short final. The thing that helped me was nailing the airspeed. I found that if the nailed the speed then the rest seemed to all work. Obviously there is more to it than that but it seemed to help.
15. Welcome! What types have you flown?
16. Great work! The J230 is one awesome aircraft!
17. Welcome! I am from Canberra and fly RA aircraft so if I can be of any help let me know.
18. Welcome. I have been up in a foxbat once. It has amazing visibility from the cockpit. Cant comment much on the performance as I was not flying.
19. Can I ask you the rapid fire questions now Seeing as I forgot? 1. what would be your dream aircraft if cost was not a factor? (except for the nieuport) 2. which famous aviator would you fly with if given a chance? 3. What is the best piece of advice you have been given about flying?
