  1. I agree Ultralights ... I think 40,000 people a year / yr visit the old mouldy 747 at Longreach ... Try telling the folk up there what a waste of time it's acquisition was .
  2. Surprised me too.. I believe there are several " near airworthy " aircraft out there and almost ready for the air again .... One of the most graceful and elegant airplanes to ever grace the sky ..
  3. Should be on everyone's bucket list ....
  4. 0750 hrs arrival to be exact ..
  5. Great video ... One of the best .. Thanks for sharing
  6. I saw a Dash 8 with a ground speed of 430kts this morning over the North Sea , yet a B 737 in an opposite direction doing just 240kts ..
  7. Ch. 7 Sydney is showing a Yak T18 in a paddock ... Looks like superficial damage only ..
  8. You'd be interested to know that we spent our honeymoon at the Jersey Air Rally in 1974 , and my best man was and still is a Guernsey man who had dealings with the Guernsey Aero Club ...
  9. My very first flight was with my Dad , a pleasure flight around Blackpool Tower in the UK in a Jodel , G-ARDZ , however , that's another story .... Getting back to the Dragon Rapide theme , and again many years ago as a 10 yr old , I used to cycle to my local airfield , Halfpenny Green in the UK Midlands and look mesmerised at times at the old Dragon Rapide G-AGJG hauling skywards the parachutists one mission after the other . One day an unfortunate skydiver was. involved in an unusual incident . There was to be a formation drop involving two groups , one launching from a Cessna and the other group launching from the Dragon Rapide flying slighly lower but in close formation . The unfortunate individual mistimed his launch from the Cessna and immedialtely crashed through the upper fuselage of the Dragon Rapide . He is probably one of the very few to take off in one aircraft but land in another ! ... He was luckily only slightly injured . Now back to the Dragon Rapide in question . It fell into disrepair , languished at the airfield for many years before " disappearing " to a location unknown .. Imagine my surprise when I spotted it just a couple of years ago at Duxford in the UK , looking better than ever . What a great job has been done in its restoration . It really was quite an emotional time seeing the old bird again and in such good nick too . It had been about 40 years since I'd seen this lovely airplane and hopefully she will still grace the skies in another 40 .. Here she is in all her glory at Duxford ..
  10. This morning reports say 7 confirmed deceased and no idea where the wreckage is .... How times and information changes over a short period !!
  11. Seems to work OK in the UK with their 450Kg MTOW limits for a 2 seater .. Perhaps they are a little slimmer over there , although a diet of Pork Pies and warm beer is hardly conductive to weight loss is it !! .. Yampy
  12. It appears to be a re engined Caravan with the Alison Turbo prop , denoted by the 4 bladed prop . This conversion has very significant short field performance compared with the standard version . There is only one such model in Australia I understand , operated by Sydney Skydivers and can been seen most days at Wilton Airfield ..
  13. All the very best wishes for your new venture ..
  14. That Antonov is actually an Ilyushin , it's a Il 76 of the Russian AF arriving in SYD from BNE in support of the G20 being held in Brisbane . If you are interested it is reg RA 766669 ....
  15. Thanks for posting ... Great stuff ... Bought back memories of the " Red Pelican " RAF display team all those years ago , too many years to think of now .. I was a Duxford 2 years ago ... A must visit place for any aviation buffs .
  16. The aircraft registration was clearly visible on tonight's Ch9 news ... It is VH reg and a RV6 registered to an Victoria address ..
  17. Its only natural being loving and caring parents that you are a little apprehensive and nervous having your daughter taking this big trip.. I bet she has the time of her life, a trip of a lifetime and one filled with great memories ..I worried when my daughter had a school trip to Wagga , so a trip to China would have given me goosebumps I tell you .... Try not to worry too much Ian, she'll be OK ..
  18. Marty ..... You probably witnessed movements of Mirage 2000 aircraft out of Istres Airforce base , about 100 km SE of your location . Istres is a very active French Air Force base , with squadrons of Mirage 2000 and also KC 135 tanker aircraft . It has the longest runway in Western Europe at 5000M in length ...I hope you get visual id of these aircraft .... Your comments certainly revive memories for me of seeing Super Etendards on the bombing ranges in Southern Brittany some years ago .. Happy spotting ..
  19. Yes it looks like it's hiding turbine , like the " real " Tucano has under the bonnet ..
  20. RAF Cosford Aviation Museum near Woverhampton and also near to Phil Perry is well worth a visit , also an active and people friendly airfield is Halfpenny Green , just to the South of RAF Cosford with lots of micro light and GA traffic .
  21. Well said Phil .... I recall the Iranian / American incident very clearly ... If i remember the Americans misidentified the target as a F14 Tomcat .. I also recall that the Americans were upfront and open to all investigations and transparent in all investigations , all which cannot be said about this last sad episode in Ukraine . BTW Phil , I'll be over " The Green " in October , hoping to fly one of those C42's again ..
  22. When I view the video , it shows it was uploaded 1 month ago ! ....
  23. I'm merely passing on a email that I received today .. Maybe it is " dribble " , I don't know .. Perhaps it may be time to take the issue up with Jill Bailey , after all she is implicated in this email .. Please don't shoot the messenger as they say .
