  1. I have done and to be honest I always feel that if I allowed for 2-3 seconds reaction time, it would be sliding back down its tail before I could respond. So normally I let her take of then climb at about 65knots which feels comfortable to me and still give 1000 fpm. 65 knots is maximum flap speed so it is a bit of a balancing act for the first 300'
  2. I simply cannot disagree with this comment. With all the runway we have at Caboolture, I have still not been able to bring myself to climb out a best rate of climb in my plane which is 54 knots. Even at 65knots, I am at 500' at the cross runways. I just cant bring myself to pull the nose that high whilst so close to the ground. At 54 knots it feels like she is standing on her tail and I just can't do it that close to the ground. I always wonder if the fan stop at that steep angle, will I have time to get the nose over before it is to late.

  4. I find RAAus costs to be reasonable. Membership and Rego still cost me less than the registration on my motorcycle so in that light I think its fair. But in terms of increases and percentage increase we need to remember the increase by stealth we had in 2016 when they drop our magazine then asked us to pay extra for it. That proved to be a no brainer for me, I just don't read the magazine any more so no increase.

  6. Good luck getting a Foxbat up to 99 knots in any weather. A Vixxen maybe but a Foxbat not likely.
  7. Jaba You are correct of course. I was assuming that being a J230 that it would be a factory built, forgetting that J230's can also come as a kit aircraft. Certainly for an owner built aircraft maintenance should be no dearer in either guise.
  8. Try hiring a VH Jab and an RAA Jab and see which one is cheaper. If you are the owner and have some mechanical nouse then maintenance of RAA is much cheaper.
  9. Being told something does not make it fact. Seeing it in writing would carry far more weight than just being told by someone. I am not having a go at you here Teckair, but it seems absolutely amazing to me that there can any dispute about such an important matter. If someone could point out a reference that may help clarify what to me seems like it should be obvious. I am not an instructor so I do not know the rules, but I must admit that there is no way I would have wanted to solo in a single seater after having done all my training in a Dual place aircraft. Even now I would want to do a lot of homework before flying a single seater for the first time.

  13. Not sure how this works, but from their website Vne 117 mph Expected true cruise speed with 100hp Rotax 127 mph. I am not sure about anyone else but cruising above Vne would bother me a little bit?

  18. Much easier to get forgiven than to get approval. The more obvious question is unless it was an obvious easily fixable fault is who would want to be repairing and then testing an engine on a crowded beach.
  19. I have owned 3 different Jags. The best of those was a Series3 V12 Daimler Sovereign which I owned whilst living in Germany. What a wonderful machine.

  21. Why would the RAA tech Manager be signing off on a VH Experimental, he would have no authority to do so in his capacity as RAA tech manager.
  22. I haven't seen the video so won't comment on it. However hearing the engine brake come on in most situations means the driver has done 4 things first. 1. identified the hazard (typically 1-3 secs) 2. backed off the accelerator. (typically 1-2 secs) 3. applied the brake. (typically 1-2 secs) 4. then if the truck is under control and the driver can afford to let go of the steering wheel with one hand to reach for a switch on the dash he will apply the engine brake. So 7 seconds from when someone indicates to move into my safe zone in front of my truck would not be an unreasonable time frame for me to get to step 4. Then if someone moves into my lane I am not going to react immediately anyway as the normal assumption after someone passes me is that they will continue to accelerate or at least drive away. IMHO it does take longer to react to someone doing something stupid or unpredictable than it does to normal expected situations.

They lost the Atlantic Conveyor which by the reports of items that went missing from the MOD over the next 5 years and reported as having been on that vessel must have been 10 times her actual 15,000 tonnes. When I was posted to England in 1986 and doing kit checks of Squadies tool boxes, the standard answer to missing items was "That was on the Altlantic Conveyor Sarge". Who was I to argue with these honest upstanding young men
