  1. Camping is allowed. Follow the instructions in the notam and you will end up in the right area where camping is allowed... Notam here. http://saaa.com/Portals/0/AUSFLY%202015%201%20Pilot%20Guidance%20v1-1%2023%20Aug%202015.pdf
  2. In many ways the best outcome would be: 1) CASA to ease the restrictions on the drivers licence medical so that it can be what it should have been. 2) RAAus to allow people with an RPL to fly an RAAus aircraft without holding a RPC. That way it would save people from having to have 2 licences and people could have access to controlled airspace.
  3. If you have an RPC, why couldn't you get an RPL, do the training for CTA and go at it?
  4. Without a bit more information it is hard to provide specific advice. The rules for what you can do with land for Moreton Bay Regional Council are here: https://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/subsite.aspx?id=73667 There is no specific mention of an airstrip in either the rural or rural residential. Often it can be argued that an airstrip use is consistent with rural activites eg aerial spreading, farm inspection however that is harder if the area is zoned rural residential. It also isn't clear if the airstrip is existing and with approval and this is a new council restriction in response to a complaint, or if this is a resection imposed in applying for a new airstrip. If it is the first case then your argument is easier. I suspect that some good professional advice is worthwile if you want to push it.
  5. Doesn't that mean you cant legally stop the engine and enjoy the "silence" as a glider? http://www.recreationalflying.com/threads/engine-off-operations.119664/ and section 3.02 here: https://www.raa.asn.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Operations-Manual-Issue-7_Single-pages-with-new-CAO-95.55-Mar-15.pdf If you made the wingspan 14.2m then you could have 600kg as the max takeoff weight and all would be good. At 13m you can only have 507kg max takeoff weight and still be considered a motor glider.
  6. Won't the 13 wingspan limit the MTOW to still meet the definition of a motorglider in CAO 95.4?
  7. Asmol, refer to Section 1.5 of AIP GEN 1.5. Hand held radios are allowed for aircraft 600kg MTOW weight and under in class G airspace. Old Koreelah, Is the antenna tuned for the aviation frequencies ? You state that you have a dipole antenna mounted 60 degree off vertical. A dipole tends to be fairly directional is mounting it vertically the best orientation?
  8. Thats right. CASA could just cut and paste the 91 rules into part 103 which is why it is important to respond to these rules properly but as written this part doesn't apply to aircraft regulated under part 103.

  10. I am responding on a number of other points to CASA. What are the issues with that section?

  12. Read 91.030. It doesn't apply to raaus (part 103)or drones (part 101)

  17. so how do I get by with my little plastic FAA license....
  18. The atsb report available at the link below shows the failure rate for fixed elts isn't as high as 90% but is still high. https://www.atsb.gov.au/publications/2012/ar-2012-128.aspx These days they are cheap enough to to have both a fixed and personal one.
  19. A 12 by 12 by 4 kit shed will start at about$12k without doors for the basic kit of materials including roof cladding. You need to add to this erection (or diy) and concrete footings Large doors are expensive and if they hang from the frame then it adds there too. It can easily double the cost if the opening required is large. The floor will be a big cost too. For a larger shed the numbers quoted by dutchroll seem spot on for a high quality product done well. To compare this to a shed made from 2 containers the costs won't be much less. 2 40 foot containers without too much rust will be about $8k and the roof thing about another 8 or so. With the containers you need a bigger space for the same clear width. Eg say the aircraft has a 10m span and you want some clearance either side you need 12m clear. For a shed this will fit on a plot of land about 12.5m wide. A container is 2.5m wide and so you will need 17m of width. If you are renting the land at the airport by the m2 that adds quite a bit of space required.
  20. Ahh but notice that the commercial ones are fixed down to a proper footing and not just plonked down on the ground. Th other issue I have with shipping ng containers is that by the time they no longer pass the inspection to be used on a ship the corrosion has really started to take hold. Containers that can be still used as containers are quite expensive. Unless you need the secure space that a container provides a kit shed is likely cheaper.
  21. What I was trying to say and not doing a very good job of was imagine if two light plane running ozrunways on an ipad are flying along. One has the ABS-b respberry pi as well. Also flying in the areas is a QLink Dash8. Now the dash 8 will show up on the ipad in the aircraft that has the raspberry pi but the other plane will not have that traffic on its screen. Imagine though if that traffic was uploaded to the server by the aircraft with the raspberry pi.
  22. the small one that comes with the dongle works reasonable well in receiving traffic.
