  1. Two things would be great. 1 Avplan and Ozrunways agreeing to share the server side data so that traffic shown on one system also shows on the other. 2. If you have one of the raspberry pi ads-b recievers then using ozrunways and your ipad detects an aircraft that isnt already in the ozrunways system then its data gets uploaded.
  2. you mean like this? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SHIPPING-CONTAINER-SHELTER-or-SITE-OFFICE-Suit-20-Container-Heavy-Duty-/271949328042?hash=item3f51716eaa The difficulty I see is that in a strong wind when you want a hanger to protect your aircraft a shipping container is blowing down the runway...
  3. This system is quite different to ADS-B. In the OZrunways/Avplan system you need 2 things to show up on the screen. You need to have a connection to the mobile data network(Telstra, Vodafone) and a be running Ozrunways or Avplan. The system works by your iPad uploading your position, direction and speed to a server. You then get information about aircraft that are also doing the same. While this is great it will miss a lot of aircraft. For instance if you are running ozrunways and someone else is running Avplan you wont see them on your ipad. If they have the wifi only ipad then you wont see them on your ipad. If they are are a glider you wont see them on your ipad. If they are outside of phone network coverage you wont see them.
  4. If this is the incident you are thinking of I would call it a draw.... http://www.pigzbum.com/accidents/ddaafs_f-111-accident_133.pdf
  5. Read their words carefully. They didn't say there were 46 engine failures, just 46 mechanical failures. By their definition a failure of a fuel pump would be on the list.
  6. all these stories about vehicles and wildlife almost make flying sound safe....

    Washout??

Soap and water? Just joking but I am sure someone will be along with the right answer soon.
  8. A full power miss is unlikely to be carb ice and more likely to be something ignition or valve train. Is it s stumble for just a few cycles or does it continue for a period? Do you have EGT monitoring on all cylinders. If so does the cylinder go "cold" indicating complete lack of firing or does the engine just run rough but without a large EGT temperature drop on 1 cylinder. A completely cold cylinder is likely to be valve but rough running could just be 1 plug not firing.
  9. The website has been updated with info on flying in and the airshow program. www.ausfly.com.au
  10. I don't think they have updated the website yet. This discussion indicated that they will update the website soon. http://www.pprune.org/pacific-general-aviation-questions/561646-ausfly-2015-september-4-6-ynrm.html
  11. Yes it is!!!! This email was sent to SAAA members a few days ago. Dear SAAA members Ausfly is only 5 weeks away! From 4th to 6th September, pilots and aviation enthusiasts will converge on Narromine, NSW for a weekend of fun and fellowship, education and shopping. SAAA will present a series of workshops, including wood, metal and composite construction, electrical, propeller maintenance, preparing for C of A, Schedule 8, AD/ENG/4 and test flights. There will be TC and Chapter President meetings, as well as the SAAA AGM. At the AGM we will vote on the adoption of an updated constitution. We have an impressive list of exhibitors offering a wide range of aviation goodies, so bring your credit card! You will also be impressed by the array of air show performers including the Roulettes. Why not enter your aircraft for judging – there is a wide range of categories. Awards will be presented at the Ausfly dinner, by our distinguished guest speaker. Dinner will be a serve-yourself buffet, with cheese platters, a main course with a choice of hot meats, salads and dessert. Bookings for dinner can be made via the on line shop at www.saaa.com There are a limited number of tickets, so don’t miss out – book now! Accommodation is available on the field in the form of comfortable tents in the caravan park, or you can pitch your tent under the wing of your aircraft. Just let the marshallers know you want to camp with the aircraft, so you can be marshalled to the camping area. There are various motels in and around Narromine and Dubbo for those who prefer a little more comfort. In order to run such a splendid event, we need volunteers. If you can spare an hour or two, we have plenty of tasks to be done, from marshalling, aircraft judging, crowd control to staffing the registration desk. Please contact us at [email protected] to put your name on the volunteer list. Looking forward to seeing you there!
  12. I can foresee that reckless incidents like this being the driver for the introduction of more draconian regulations.
  13. Extract from the current HGFA manual on PPG rules below. I dont have the previous version available to check if it has changed recently...
  14. ...you have to wait for gravity to do that for you...
  15. ...but the prop is likely to windmill and still damage the prop and require an engine tear down anyway....
  16. Now boys please don't ruin the thread by squabbling..... Nev, I am not asking if the use of Opal fuel in a Rotax 912ULS is ok. The manual and the fuel specs clearly show that it isnt. What I am curious about is if there is anything that can be added to the tank to rectify this situation. It appears that there isnt. I am aware that the octane rating for avgas is different but why would mixing opal with avgas maximize the damage?
  17. But if it stops them damaging my paint job when they try to pry the fuel cap off with a screwdriver I am all for it.... ...provided that it wont cause harm to the engine.
  18. Is there an additive that brings the octane rating of opal fuel up to the requirements for the 100hp Rotax 912ULS? It wold be good to know for times when that is all that is available.
  19. Foreflight. If you think ozrunways is good (and it is) foreflight is great!!!! Some little things I really like about foreflight: Great weather imtergration. You can plot on the map things like cloud base, dew point spread and temperature to see where the vfr weather is. When you land at an airport with a tower it knows that you have landed because of your position and speed and brings up the airport diagram without you having to press anything. Really good when you arrive somewhere new.
  20. MOA's in this instance are a red herring. The nearest MOA was 15 miles away. Even if an F-16 that is a significant distance. Other media reports suggest that the F-16 was doing practice instrument approaches into Charlston which is both a civil airfield and military airforce base. See here for instance: http://www.flyingmag.com/technique/accidents/despite-crash-military-civilian-midairs-are-rare When the full report is released we will know why they cane so close but I doubt that MOAs will feature significantly in the discussion.
  21. The reality is that MOA's are not as scary as made out, avoiding them is good but flying through them with caution is OK too. In some parts the MOA is used to give light aircraft a path through the restricted areas where live firing is taking place. For instance go to http://vfrmap.com/ and search for "MRH" to the north of this is the "Core MOA" which is a strip between the R-5306 and W-122 both of which have a large amount of military operations. Without flying through the MOA flight to the north wouldn't be possible above 3000'. Somehow the US system allows little and big aircraft to play together with relatively few incidents considering the amount of traffic. From the AIM
  22. SrPilot, Are you sure that this accident was in an MOA? The news reports said that is was about 11 miles north of Charleston at Moncks Corner. The nearest MOA is further north about 25 miles from Charlston. News reports can be wrong but your post was the first time anyone mentioned that it was in an MOA. Nobody
  23. Available as a download Halfway down the page here: https://www.faa.gov/training_testing/testing/test_standards/
  24. I think it depends on what you are hiring. Most of my experience of hiring was in the USA but ranged from a quick trip to the training area to demonstrate a few stalls and then a few circuits to one guy who really only came for a circut because i asked. I do think it depends on how current you are and whether you scare them in the first 5 minutes.
