  1. You need to go by manifold pressure so as not to overload the engine, and to get best economy. The numbers are in the Rotax manual for constant speed prop. Let me know if you need further info. John.
  2. Correction. In the post above I mentioned a recall on the Blackwing. It should have been the Blackshape. Sorry for the confusion. John.
  3. In Australia RAA has provision for retractable undercarriage and in flight adjustable propeller. I have both.
  4. I have been lucky enough to fly the TL-Ultralight Stream in Czech Republic. It is a high performance tandem seating layout with retractable gear. A low level flight down the airstrip (with permission) at 300 kmh certainly got the adrenaline going. It is certified at 600 kg and during tests the wings went to over 170% of design strength. There are four coming off the production line right now from a company that has been producing composite aircraft for 25 years. I have been told there is a factory recall on the Blackwing. Contact me off line for further info. John.
  5. Caterpillar has not shut down truck engine production and are in full production. In some polluted environments they claim to be putting out cleaner air than what they are taking in.
  6. Still looking for any owners of TL 3000 Sirius aircraft in Australia. If you know of any please let me know. Regards, John.
  7. Wanting to contact any one with a TL3000 Sirius in the Sydney area. John.
  8. Rotax recommends maximum of 30% Avgas. Oil changes and gearbox service requirements as above. Lead affects the gearbox clutch.
  9. If you go to Farm Stays NSW & Queensland | Outback Accommodation you will get a few ideas. Also call their 1800 number and ask about fly in stays. John.
  10. Back in the 1990's Limbach changed through bolts from 6mm to 8mm that were "wasted" to deal with harmonics. No more problems ! Just as facthunter refers to above.
  11. Butane is used to raise the octane of mogas. It is all downhill from the refinery hence the warnings re stale fuel. Butane escapes the plastic jerry cans by osmosis.
  12. Check the Material Safety Data Sheet from the oil company's. The SG of avgas 100ll is 0.72. SG of mogas 98 is 0.76. Jet A1 SG is 0.8. All corrected to 15 degrees C. John.
  13. There are two types of Mr Funnel. Normal type and carbon injected C type. C type deals better with static electricity by conducting, not so much chance of spark jumping. 98 Mogas stored in a plastic jerry can will turn into 91 mogas in about two weeks. Get a hydrometer and test it - you will be surprised. John.
  14. I replaced the one on passenger side with one without the pop out part - just a straight slide. The pop out part is just too complicated for passengers.
  15. The iphone/ipad require 5v and 2.1 amps to charge. The 1.5 amp types won't do it.
  16. Depending where you are there is about 11 degrees difference between magnetic and true north.
  17. The only difference between northern and southern hemisphere compass is a little dob of solder to keep the pointer disk level.
  18. Yes there is a difference. Ballistic is one big bang (explosive). Where as rocket powered is more sustained (continuous), some use a second rocket. BRS is a generic term. Pipistrel use the rocket powered Chute. 80% of small plane accidents occur near airfields and below 500 feet.
  19. There are three types of whole plane parachutes. Ballistic, compressed air and rocket powered. The performance difference between each is considerable when it comes to maximum deployment speed, unusual attitude or height above ground.
  20. This is why the FAA is pushing for all aircraft to have AOA instruments.
  21. The critical measurement in any CD carby is fuel level in the bowl.
  22. I find it is usually to do with the vents. One is in a slightly different pressure area than the other. John.
  23. As an active aerial firefighter this is causing considerable concern. Most of you realize the effect of out of balance in either a fixed wing or rotary aircraft. The amateur drone flyer would not give it a thought. The usual response is we fly so low we won't worry you. Many times I have been in a four ton aircraft taken up at 1000 feet per minute over a fire, a drone could finish up anywhere. Once aircraft are involved in fire fight the area becomes a restricted area with a F-CTAF and no aircraft can enter without authority. Crew safety is paramount. If a drone is in a fire area all aerial fire fighting will stop. You may have seen the phrase used in USA " If you fly we don't " aimed at drones in fire areas. I am sure most drone operators do not want to cause any harm. I think drones are amazing and would like to play with one. John.
