  1. NiMH is the better option, but nothing wrong with NiCd other than that they run down much quicker when not in use. As a user of various aernautical and amateur radios over the years, I think Jetboy is saying that the A20 is a sound and simple radio, whereas later versions have added bells and whistles which are really just unnecessary complications for the basic use that you describe. If the radio is otherwise OK I'd shell out for the new battery rather than spend the $300 on a new one.
  2. A number of replacements come up on Ebay etc, the following is one example, freight price takes the shine off it a bit. BP-7 CM-7G Battery for ICOM IC-A20 IC-A21 IC-02AT IC-03AT IC-04AT | eBay
  3. Probably an ex truck driver, they use that excuse all the time.
  4. One Carvair operated a cement shuttle in Saudi Arabia years ago. To get the maixmum bang for the buck, they stripped off the few kilos of paint and flew it naked. Didn't help its looks! .
  5. Can't have been pikeys, they would have had the flashing lights too.
  6. Hard to tell them apart from a photo: "Farnborough Aircraft formed a business alliance with Epic Aircraft to develop both companies' aircraft and as a result the POC aircraft appears similar to the Epic LT. The wing is reportedly the same, while the Kestrel’s fuselage is 20 inches longer than the Epic’s. "
  7. Incorrect according to my understanding; it is not a fuel/power issue, but a control one. They are unable to command a burn, hence the reason its returning to earth uncontrolled.
  8. Eclipse and Kestrel formed 'One Aviation' to market their products?
  9. A 7.62 bullet only weighs 9 or 10 grams and has a velocity near half of that speed. The risk management is based solely on the (im) probability of material landing in an occupied space.
  10. According to one tracking site latest on the demise is that the final decay may at occur 0530Z on the 3rd April +- 80 hours The reentry may occur on any of the paths in this diagram: TIANGONG 1 - NORAD 37820 - 3D Online Satellite Tracking
  11. About the only thing anyone can say with any degree of certainty is that it should come down somewhere between 43N and 43S. So it could join MH407.
  12. I'd start out by seeing what is used on local sports ovals etc. Non clumping and an 'amenity' species.
  13. Actual weights and dimensions of the 108, 109 and Mk1 Spitfire: Me108 Empty Weight 880 kg MTOW 1.385 kg Wing Span 10.50 m Wing Area 16.4 m² Length 8.30 m Height 2.30 m Me109 Empty Weight 1.970 kg MTOW 3.150 kg Wing Span 9.92 m Wing Area 16.1 m² Length 8.85 m Height 3.40 m Spitfire Mk1 Empty Weight 2.268 kg MTOW 2.911 kg Wing Span 11.23 m Wing Area 22.5 m² Length 9.12 m Height 3.02 m
  14. Sounds more like an unrestrained pallet smashed open the cargo hatch.
  15. Two pilots, one reportedly u/t. No info on which one is safe. The Challenger landed back on the ground in Perth about an hour ago.
  16. Perhaps a technicality, but there is no evidence at this point that 'the pilot' did anything.
  17. Phuket News: Investigation underway into Phuket light aircraft crash
  18. I had left Southampton a couple or so years before hand; fortunately the ATC involved was ex-Navy ATC and would have had a good grounding in dealing with emergency situations. I didn't watch the re-enactment, but if its not mentioned the cause of the window seperation was the use of slightly under-sized (in diameter) bolts the last time the window was replaced.
  19. IIRC, the first officer gave up flying. Although conveniently placed, Southampton was not a great place to land a jet for the first time in those days, with a narrow runway that was not that long either.
