What fabric to use?
Pilot Pete replied to Pilot Pete's topic in Aircraft Building and Design Discussion
Hey Pook,Its been a while since I did RC planes, but I remember the process of covering quite well. I havent seen any dvds as yet but have seen a few clips on youtube. Thanks Yenn for your take on covering. -
What fabric to use?
Pilot Pete replied to Pilot Pete's topic in Aircraft Building and Design Discussion
Yes, it looks like the Stitts system is the favoured method. I havent read too much on this product as yet.I need to study a bit more. -
Ok all, I've opted to use the Stewart system for fabric covering of my Corella and my Nieuport 11. What I am asking is what others have used in the way of fabric, the approx cost, where they obtained it and why they used it ?

Order the correct aircraft hardware.

Ìf you photocopy them now they will be new again................ -
Who got to go to this event, held just east of Toowoomba at Helidon this year? Once again a great show which is getting bigger and better each year. I hope to have my Nieuport flyable for the next show. This year I just had to be satisfied that my wheels were used on the one flying down there. Didnt take too many pics or vids as I was too wrapped up in watching everything unfold around me including the massive "napalm drop"by a Trojan that just about took my eyebrows off from where I was standing. Certainly was a big BANG.

Could you let me know hoh much as well and your payment methods? -
Unless we know the full story and the materials used, dont underestimate the ingenuity of the Indians to produce something flyable from this hodgepodge of metal and motor. Give them a gun or machine and they can reproduce it with basic tools in their homes.

The view from the pilots seat would be awsome. Prop position looks a lot safer. Looks to be quite a do-able project. -
Are we looking at our own version of the American EAA group? If so , then i'm in. As a student pilot and an aircraft builder, what you are proposing would be of imence...amence...immense(?) value . In our chosen sport/hobby, mentoring and builders support is a resourse that needs to be fully utilized to give each and everyone of us a better chance of getting airborne , and staying airborne in the safest way possible.

I notice there are some of these designs that have pusher prop setups. Maybe it was done to help with pulley location in the larger leading edge part of the wing. -

Had a bit of a look at the AS-37. It seems to be a proven design. Unusual to say the least. -

Not often, but I'd hate to be the one to wear it if it did happen. I would like to have the props at least in front of the torso area. -
Very similar to Bob Hoovers. He made his flange sepperate too and welded them together front and back. He then spun the assembly on a lathe and machined the hub up true. Flange was mild steel and the spigot was made in 4130

Looks like the props need to spin outside the cockpit area . Hate to see what would happen if a blade went awol -
I've read Bob Hoovers blog and downloaded a copy of the plans/specs for a hub and could possibly lathe one up myself on a neighbours lathe . Still, if I could buy one already made and ready to bolt on I would prefer to go that way. Where did you buy yours?

Just Who in Australia supplies or makes VW prop hubs? It seems if we want one of these we have to buy one from USA.

Mid wing to high wing conversion.

I have just been looking over some of the replies and have come to this conclusion. To make entering the cockpit easier I will make and install recessed foot wells in the side of the fuselage in front of the wing. This area is all fiberglass and would take little modification to do. The inboard section of the wing will have ribs installed with aluminium sheet covering to enable one to step on this area. As for sun protection, I will try either dark tinting or a car windscreen shade that is mounted on suction caps. No structual mods needed and all can breath a sigh of relief that this plane will still fly with its structual integrity intact. Now, how does one mount the landing gear on the top for inverted landings................................................................. -
