  1. Also might want to keep an eye on this: http://www.afap.org.au/Jobs/Latest-Jobs/AFAP-Pilot-Jobs-.asp You may luck out and pick up a job that you are after. Also I met a guy once who used to build hours flying the QAIRTC (Air Force Cadets, They may have a new name these days) aircraft to amberley and back with students. It probably wouldn't hurt to get involved with this anyway, lots of airline or commercial pilots in the flying school.
  2. Let us know how you go tarnasky. A lot of us will be in the same boat in the next year or so.
  3. No way I was going up solo Nev, not after two years (checked my logbook). BTW, flight went fine, needed a bit of practice on circuits but in the end signed off BFR so all good
  4. You don't saddle your aircraft? Maybe I am doing it wrong. Always wondered why I had troubles with the bridle and bit...
  5. I like the crosswind join. Gives me time to setup the landing in familiar terms (ie. full circuit). And I will be joining slightly short of the threshold now as per the diagram in the changes above. That's a great doc btw, explains a lot.
  6. Thanks David. I reviewed my notes and it would appear I used to come in over the threshold not on actual crosswind so it wasn't as far different as I thought. Looking forward to the flight now. Cheers, Shags
  7. Quick question. Looking at teh 166-1 guidline, say you want to join on crosswind, you make your own crosswind, between mid downwind and the departure end of the runway? I always joined crosswind at about the place you ordinarily would be at crosswind.
  8. *Groan* Thats a lot of reading.
  9. Hi All, Going back up after more than a year grounded. Any thoughts on what I should review before going? I thought of: - required radio calls - emergency landing procedures - aircraft key stats Anything else? Cheers, Shags
  10. Good one. I only vomit once a year, oktoberfest.
  11. We shouldn't be debating it, that's why we elect the board. Admittedly I am not a management accountant but I am not sure wether any members will even view 6 monthly accounts, no matter how easy it is, it is still some work. Just my thoughts anyways.
  12. I get relatives to bring the ones from their commercial flights and keep a few spares in my flight bag. If the aircraft I'm flying doesn't have any then I use those.
  13. Poor treasurer. Is the second ammendment really necessary?
  14. The biggest problem Darky that I see is that a lot of us need to drive an hour to get to an airfield that isn't CTA.
  15. Accountant here as well Volky but I specialise in self managed super.
  16. Makes sense Mazda. Thanks.
  17. Blackrod: Apologies on Zane's position didn't know it wasn't a board spot but still... And re: the cost of an aircraft, a lot of the schools are buying newish boomerangs etc. Surely they are the same cost as a p92. Or even Jabs are cheap enough...
  18. Hi All, Just having a look at the whitney boomerang as I may be flying one soon: http://www.dwaviation.com.au/boomerang.html Why would anyone buy the boomerang over say a Tecnam: VNE = same Cruise, 21kn higher on tecnam stall flaps 10kn lower on tecnam Extra 25kg useful weight on tecnam both two seaters and the list goes on. What possible benefit would there be to buying a boomerang? Hell it looks like it even costs more! What am I missing? Not being an aircraft owner I don't know what stats to look for but am curious as to this case in particular. Cheers, Shags
  19. I like the fact that forum posts are being reprinted (except don't like that the site wasn't given credit). It means that we're not just whinging to ourselves but rather we are giving feedback which is being taken onboard by our board (too many boards...). Love the new magazine layout as well. Just wish mine wasn't soaking wet :(
  20. I want CTA, so I am doing my PPL. I don't think the issue is wether we should have CTA in RA but rather why GA schools charge so damn much! Surely they could pick up a tecnam, register it VH same as other flying schools then let the students benefit from the cheaper operating costs or does CASA overcharge the flying schools for GA? Not having run a flying school I have no idea of the ongoing costs. Also goes to show how long I have been out of it, Zane was my instructor through my RA license and I have only just noticed that he has passed on his flying school to take up RA Boad role. Grats to Zane and with someone like him on the committee I believe they will continue to do what is best for the membership as a whole. While it would be nice to be able to fly RA in CTA (don't have to drive an hour out of brisbane to get to an airport then) I understand the need for less CASA involvement in our hobby.
  21. Might do that. Hate flying Jabs but it may be worth getting endorsed.
  22. Thanks Tomo. The owner is actually a client of the firm I work for (otherwise I would never of heard of them). So I will do my biennial then organise a flight with them. Prices seem fairly reasonable, if there's any cheaper there wouldn't be many.
  23. Did I miss something in my absence? How can we train at archerfield?
  24. Was thinking of doing my ppl conversion there. Has anyone flown with them (http://www.flightone.net.au/)? Also has anyone flown the boomerang? What's it like? Cheers, Shags
  25. Hi Jerra, Unfortunately I've not flown a single solitary hour since buying my house and it is depressing me to no end. I thought I would get enough of a raise this year to cover some flying but alas my work duped me again. I'm just finishing up my high school maths now for my army entry, if that doesn't come off then I will have to see if I have enough equity in my house to refinance for CPL. Just don't know at the moment. It's all too sad :(
