  1. Proof that one shouldn't open posts from people on your ignor list.
  2. Makes the Xair look like a F18 If some of the current CASA individuals see this they would still looking for their stress medication.
  3. Only done about 10hrs or so in a J170 so would I would not comment much, can't recall a whole lot of difference to the J230 actually. My comment was mainly about trying to adjust the stationery idle speed. On a couple of friends, 120 & 170, I couldn't get a nice idle as low as I set it on 3300 engines. Certainly the lowest "happy" idle without any tendency to stop on reducing quickly to idle (allowing for differing pilot techniques) is desirable.
  4. Isn't that a membership issue with nobody else prepared from the area to commit or make an effort? (Rather then the system) True but some people are actively supporting the CASA approach (amazingly, to me at least) It will not be sorted here BUT I hope everyone gives some serious thought to what direction they want RAA to go and then vote accordingly with ref to the proposed amendments as is their right.
  5. OzRunways notes from Sept 2015
  6. I'll leave it at that
  7. Do you really thing this justifies the instrument. The real result is I can fly into (if someone else paid the landing & parking etc fees) Eagle Farm or Kingsford Smith etc. but not the class D areas in the same locations. Just stupidity IMO. I only get out of Qld every few years but Cairns class C, Townsville class C, Mackay class D, and Rockhampton class D all no problem but Archerfield No. I am aware there is a few who support the CASA action but if looked at sensibility it just killed the flying schools located in the class D areas but nothing else other then the value of our aircraft and run on effect for the company. Apart from the resale value (which I can understand) it has not had any effect on my private flying in the slightest and as I have no intention of selling - net result Zero. The proposed (draft) instrument by Ungermann was a different matter.
  8. I have found the 3300 is quite happy with around 850rpm whereas the 2200 needs close to 1000rpm stationary idle.
  9. I don't think these words will ever by used by our mob
  10. Operated a Lance (forget the model, the "T" tail one) and it had a flashing Amber light indicating the override had been selected. Everyone operated in the override position. Annoying until some enterprising pilot placed a band-aid over the light. Made it tolerable, especially in low vis & night ops.
  11. Therein lies the differing opinions. The amendments most likely will go through with the AGM made up mostly of "locals" to the area. There is always proxy votes if people are concerned enough. Who knows ? I certainly don't, but time will remove the guessing of the outcome.
  12. As in Australia (Fed Govt) NSW & VIC could elect the Govt. for the whole of Australia. Whilst I have no doubt some may like that idea as well, the constitution protects the other States from this.
  13. Therein lies the problem, no need for this division, fly and compare aircraft properties without being stupid about it - but we know that is not achieveable with certain personalities
  14. Geoff The statements I have read on this line relate to "from engine failure'". I am happy to be shown where this is wrong. I have not made the statement but currently believe it to be correct. By all means list some examples , I am personally not aware of them, but I am not suggesting you are wrong, merely that I am not aware of what you are suggesting. My personal opinion from the 2015 crashes (24 with 14 fatalities ) none related to a Jabiru engine failure and another 4 crashes in 2016 already (same) I believe if reasonable person was to address this then a different area might be of greater concern. I know this does not support a couple of views here but I am only looking at the facts, as I know them.
  15. No worries. If you get a chance get someone to demonstrate it for you, you" may " be surprised. (Obviously not someone still learning to fly)
  16. 600mtrs around 1800ft? I say no more. I've seen a C172 nearly hit a fence at the end of a 2700ft strip but I didn't blame the 172.
  17. Same old s......t
  18. SOS
  19. Amazing sataement - obviously very experienced in flying the type.
  20. Have a look at 2015 as reported HERE and in the press, 24 crashes, 14 fatalities, none reported as a Jabiru engine failure. I know where a sensible analysis would point to the problem. But that will not stop the continued pushing from those who have their own agenda, whatever that might be. (2 reported as engine failures both not Jabiru, well I guess that must just bad luck)
  21. I don't see the the relevance Geoff as it depends where you are. SE Qld has been known for STOL type aircraft doing short trips. By way of example (and it means nothing other then location), I flew to Ayr this morning, and aircraft operating there were 5 jabiru, 1 Rotax powered Spirit, and a C172. I don't see what your statement suggests/implies other then it depends on the area you operate in. I am aware you are a Rotax fan and I so am I, I also like the 2 common GA engines as well, I also like the Jabiru engine - I don't see what is to be gained by a pissing contest by some here. I reminds me of primary school children debating Holden V Ford back in the 70s - although some still carry on with that to the present time. I just don't see the point really, it only polarises people who should IMO be making friends in the common interest of FLYING instead of promoting a Jabiru V Rotax culture. Some strong opinions come from people that do not even fly - but so be it, maybe it has a basis in the internet culture but achieves little constructive.
  22. And the persistent dribble starts again
  23. Thanks, just finished the update and all good.
  24. That is in the VFG also Ben, I had 1000' in my head for some reason until I was corrected above.
