  1. Any new aircraft for $50 is good buying (or a donation). For a personal choice you have to pay full price. Whatever aircraft chosen will not please everyone, but they would still take it, I suspect - unless it is the rag & tube or trike style, which has its followers also, but somewhat more limited in numbers.
  2. Have you experienced a C337 (inline) with rear engine out at AUW? Quite character building IMO.
  3. When things deteriorate to basic political dribble and individual opinions then it is not uncommon in many circles to use WITH - "Why is this here" - Maybe "off topic" but no need to comment further.
  4. "there is absolutely no bias in ABC reporting or interviewing" Really? I never thought I would see anyone actually allege that! Whatever their personal political views might be.
  5. It will be interesting to see the outcome. I guess it up to the supporters of the major change to follow their convictions and put their hands up (and their time to be effective). The total number of votes will also be an indicator of overall acceptance.
  6. Submit a flight plan so your intentions are known.
  7. 12.4 health standard Applicants for the issue of a Certificate are required to have a health standard equivalent to that required for the issue of a private motor vehicle driver licence in Australia; and ...etc Read health standard equivalent to NOT hold motor vehicle licence.
  8. Tks. I didn't consider 95.10 in my thinking.
  9. Whilst I agree this is a great club activity, I can't see where CASA approval is required - unless it is just for non ASIC card holders? It is OCTA.
  10. Interesting to see how different meanings can be taken from something when different languages are involved. When I read Phil's comment I didn't even consider a different understanding could be taken from it (Although after thinking about it, dry joint might be more of a "trade" term and reflecting my time spent as a radio tech. albeit many years ago).
  11. Just a question SSCBD, do you pull the cowls off on every preflight in a Cassna etc. (or even a twin). I would suggest not practicable for a preflight unless the aircraft has been standing for an extended period. The subject is a preflight inspection not maintenance.
  12. Have you forgotten the statement in the Courier Mail re the Pathfinder incident (including PVT FLYING in CTA with a RPC) by the, at the time, new CEO - not the board but factually incorrect statement, probably repeating dribble as supplied by the mentioned exmember.
  13. 4.3hrs.....501nm.......J230
  14. Temporary only, would not have stood if I thought the change would have been passed.
  15. I think many are just realising the result of the recent change (even though it is still to come into force) and regretting they didn't vote for their individual opinion. By the number who approach me (people who I have had no previous contact with) then the possibility of 2013 revisited is a possibility. Only time will tell and maybe they will just accept the change and complain around the airfields - the bottom line is the change was supported by a large majority of those who bothered to vote (roughly 1000 out of 8000) so they can just accept it or make an effort to change it - I think the former will occur, at least in the short term. Personally I am over it and will watch what happens in the next year/s - members choise.
  16. You can't legislate commen sence. Training and demonstration of a pilot's limits has merit, but IMO more exams etc has little measurable outputs. In my observations over time unless "most" people are shown their actual limits it leads to a false belief that they are capable of handling situations that may not be the case in practise. Basic computer simulators a prime example.
  17. Kasper That was the ops manual NOT the tech manual.
  18. I found carrying a small collapsible stool invaluable - just stop and sit now and again (back and legs need it).
  19. $1.66 I'd fill up whether I needed it or not at that price.
  20. Because a large number of pilots think CAAP 166 is wrong, it doesn't work in a lot of places. You are correct in what you say legally, but when something is ignored for whatever reason you have to make allowance for that. Personally I monitor both freqs. for that very reason (keeping in mind there is still some non radio traffic at some locations)
  21. Without interfering with what you are being told by whoever is teaching you, the nose wheel (or tail wheel for those that have a particular fettish) is best used for taxi. On take off or landing they are best used at low speed. Take my post as a comment only and as times goes by you MAY come to agree. Worth considering and your instructor may even agree?
  22. Now available at Jabiru.
  23. Depends how you look at it I suppose. For myself if it is a rule then that's a pretty good reason to comply. I don't see the connection between RPT traffic and mandated radio.
  24. That's interesting - I'm confused - but if it works, it works.
