  1. I agree with Phil, should be shoved to the politics/religion area, Not here.
  2. Heard all sorts of stories about long life from these batteries, but I changed mine at 6years, still working fine, but didn't want to run the risk of a problem when out in the sticks. I considered 6 years trouble fee was still good value.
  3. Yes Duchroll that is normal, with an alternator and with radios using a 10v regulated supply voltage, I "suspect" the micro air radios don't have this supply rail (but I am guessing there- haven't got a circuit diagram) and the charging circuit before the upgrade does not supply sufficient charge voltage below about 1800rpm and takes a while to get battery voltage up to 12v. Certainly low battery condition gives the results as reported by Russ.
  4. Yes Russ When battery is low Tx is not good (at least with the micro air radios ) I don't know if they run on a 10v rail or not but certainly I have seen this on a couple of different aircraft. Charge battery and all good in the ones I have dealt with. Happened on a training aircraft reasonably regularly with long taxis before upgrading the charging coils to series from parallel (which increases the rate at low RPM)
  5. So in short, at least in your opinion, is there a skills/knowledge gap between a RPCwith XCountry V an RPL. There is a lot different views about this very point & it was raised with Skidmore at a recent conference with industry by a GA operator locally. I am interested in YOUR opinion having just done the conversion/upgrade. I realise there are various opinions (some with vested interests) about the statement that a RPC is equal to a RPL, so hopefully I can get YOUR opinion without being swamped with quotes about what has been written and the actual reality as experienced by yourself. I know two who have done it locally (including CTA & CTR) but interested in other opinions of pilots who have actually done it. Just about the process, as I have no interest in doing an RPL personally.
  6. 3 nominations so an election closing 4 May .
  7. I'm hoping it just wasn't a blast around the country seeking support for constitutional changes. That seemed the topic they mostly wanted to talk (sell) about. I believe they need a vote of 75% or more "yes" voters to get it through. Interesting, I appreciate it is Don's baby, but the people I speak to have grave reservations - but whether that is reflected in voting numbers or not is anybody's guess.
  8. There is a simple answer but it is not printable here!
  9. I got the impression that the proposal was suggested to include annual checks for "privately owned and operated" aircraft. The concern seems to have changed to aircraft that require a L2 and initial inspections. Although all this is relevant, my objection was to having to pay someone to check my annual. This I certainly do not agree with!
  10. Oscar The "goods of trade" (as you would obviously be aware) has been an issue for ever between Pvt Awk Chtr. Personally I wouldn't go anywhere near it with RAA rego (i.e recreational flying ). But I guess there is always someone prepared to push the fact, just not me under the "current" regs.
  11. Therein lies the problem I would suggest Bruce - given many l2s are not qualified anyway. I would object to anyone "inspecting" my aircraft if they didn't have better qualifications then me, a piece of paper & being recommended by a mate (or it might be 2) is not a qualification to me.
  12. My take is that a L2 is an approval not a qualification. (I exclude LAMEs with L2 approval). I have seen some L2s that I wouldn't let touch my bicycle. I have no doubt that many L2s are very professional but without formal qualifications it is only word of mouth or observations that sort the wheat from the weeds. Not pointed at any individual, just my experience over the last 8 years in RAA.
  13. GlenB ..... Is he related to TP?
  14. Don I didn't point to where the delay was, I have no idea, just the fact that over a month is not reasonable IMO. I used my expired one today, but was not challenged, so I don't get your "optimistic " comment.
  15. My ASIC expired today. I applied at the beginning of Feb because I have had the bs of applying earlier and ending up losing a month from the 24 month period. The $200 was taken from my account a couple of weeks ago, and it is only renewal - I have paid for one of the ridiculous things since they were invented. I have no reservations with wearing my EXPIRED card as I have applied and been charged for the renewal - Not refused - If some enterprising individual wants to challenge me, bring it on. More then a month for a renewal is just unacceptable as far as I am concerned.
  16. It sounds like my way or the byway to me. Anyhow I have made my opinion known, and whether it is liked or not is irrelevant, it is my opinion, so I will buy out of this circular arguement as nothing is being addressed, just repeated opinions. Yes I acknowledge you included "without good reason" but really no opinion against your statement would be reasonable, I would submit given the posted opinions. Anyway I have had my say and will leave it at that, what the majority vote for is what counts (or at least those who bother to vote).
  17. How many times can the goal posts change? I only want to maintain my L1 to work on my own aircraft. So far apart from maintaining my aircraft for the past 8 years I have completed 1. A l1 maintenance course sponsored by CASA and run by RAA ($100) (certificate issued) 2. The first on line course (certificate issue ) 3. A 4 day maintenance course run by the manufacturer (not recognised by RAA) (certificate issued) How many changes are acceptable - every time someone gets a brainwave we just invent a new requirement, about time some realism gets addressed.
  18. Don, I have read you posts/opinions for some time and I appreciate that you are very committed and have strong opinions whether I agree or not is not the point but I must say I never suspected you were also a comedian.
  19. If you are stating that you will not accept a democratic vote unless it suits you, maybe NOW is you time!
  20. We all know your opinion Don, and I accept many probably agree with you, but rest assured a lot don't. Whether they feel strongly enough to vote accordingly is anybody's guess. Only time will tell.
  21. The proposed change to 6 and no regional representative will remove the arguement, just run by a small click and cop it and shut up. People can support or otherwise these proposed changes at the next AGM. We can only hope people vote according to their beliefs and not sit back and complain about the result if it is not to their liking after the horse has bolted.
  22. Mate, you may want to research the professional qualifications of this particular senator in relation to his career in aviation incident investigation - and take on board the comments of 2tonne. May change your mind, maybe not, just a suggestion.
  23. "The only real advantage seems to be I skip one exam." If your intention is to get a PPL , why try to avoid the relevant exams. The subject matter way we'll be relevant to exercising the privilege of that 'higher' level of licence.
  24. Not when what is written is of no value, and in a manner obviously designed to inflame rather then discuss in a rational informed manner. Your choise it's free world (at least in what one chooses to tolerate).
