  1. Has anyone updated to the 9.2.1 update with a wifi only iPad? I am waiting to hear that it works first after the last mess, leaving us without GPS access for 2 months. Duchrole (I think it was you?) has the airline approved the update?
  2. This statement is the main reason - do what you want when you want and when the weather suits you.
  3. Gazelle, Xair, Zennith and 6 Jabiru at my field and all get on well. Only hear the complaints from a few here. Mix of RPC, PPL & CPLs all interested in flying. Common interest unless someone does something stupid. But of BS from an occasional visitor but ignor that.
  4. Jaba Don't start him again. Alan (& a couple of his followers) went on and on about rubbish when this all started and will continue with the same stuff again if encouraged. I though we were over that stage. I already have copies of the relevant material. Only after some subpoenas are issued down the road will some people start to watch what they say. Interesting times ahead I suspect.
  5. As I see it - the proposal is not to stop the crap, only to move it to off topic area. Just not on the "what's new" tab of rec flying. Whether it is another site or not is not relevant as by selecting the off topics tap you will automatically go there. Just the rest of us who don't want to see this FB type material can live happily without sorting through rubbish we don't want to read. I accept there will be less activity but what is there will relate to flying - A couple will persist but that is normal with some people, I am sure everyone would have their own opinion of the suspects.
  6. I have always been of the opinion that to remain in CTA you had to plan 1000ft above the LL and you could fly OCTA up to the LL giving a 1000ft buffer between OCTA & CTA traffic. One of the current controllers might like to correct or confirm this opinion. I currently fly regularly OCTA at 2500' with a 2500' LL remaining OCTA (listening watch on approach freq and 1200 code on transponder - occasionally asked to confirm remaining OCTA when still on climb)
  7. No worries, you are convinced you are right, let's leave it at that, my AIP ENR 1.5 deals with procedure entry so let's forget it.
  8. If you are happy with that all's good, depending on actual details I wouldn't accept that. But if you are happy with the stated outcome then let's just leave it at that.
  9. Where do you get this opinion from, some but not all?
  10. Negative
  11. Appears to be written by someone who has not even flown one. Best answer is to find one, any model, and go for a fly and decide for yourself.
  12. Interesting, I just checked after your post and found it on mine also. After printing 20 pages of guff to replace a plastic card I obviously didn't look other then to check that hadn't miss any endorsement/ rating. If I failed English I would have a problem as it is the only language I know.
  13. FT looking on the bright side (or positive) - Sorry Don I must have missed that post.
  14. CAO 95.55 sets out the conditions for CTA with 24 reg. aircraft (and the Tech Manual for maintenance)
  15. The start of that section, 7.3.4, gives more explanation. On its own it appears mandatory : (The whole thing depends on traffic and commen sense) Table 2 sets out the recommended broadcasts, but pilots may use discretion in determining the number and type of broadcasts they make. For example, when operating from a private or remote airstrip, a single broadcast declaring an intention to take-off and track in particular direction may be all that is required where there is no response to the initial transmission. Table 2 – Recommended positional broadcasts in the vicinity of a non-controlled aerodrome
  16. Couple of important parts in CAR166C - Overuse is also bad. The pilot must make a broadcast that includes the following information whenever it is reasonably necessary to do so to avoid a collision, or the risk of a collision, with another aircraft: (a) the name of the aerodrome; (b) the aircraft’s type and call sign; © the position of the aircraft and the pilot’s intentions.
  17. Sounds like Secondary/GAAP & now class D?
  18. Not in my experience. Certainly not a problem as one can request / require a different runway and often asked if it is acceptable but up to 5kts downwind and +15kts Xwind is not unusual for effective traffic flow.
  19. Out of interest what is the "listed max crosswind" component of a Savannah Mark? (Or does it have one in the POH?)
  20. An example of a non radio aircraft operating at an UNCERT aerodrome last weekend - Nothing illegal and no incident - but a pain in the arse. 4 aircraft departing and one taxi for circuits - a lot of "where is he now" .
  21. Ozzie Would that be the one where the pilot was found to not have a current BFR thus no insurance? Or is this a different incident?
  22. Russ The two that I know of were installed by someone who should still be playing in a sand-pit with toy cars and not touching an aeroplane - maybe not related to what you are referring to.
  23. I don't agree with the ASIC card requirement at all BUT I have one because it is the current law and I use security controlled airports. The security control at many small airports is quite silly IMO. BUT as pointed out by Kaz "fail to display & strict liability" should be seriously considered. Should enforcement action be taken the penalty would make you wish you had spent the money on a card.
  24. Another way to approach a test is : given that you must be up to speed to be put up for the test - You start with a pass and have to earn a fail.
  25. Either way works and you can select track up or north up , if that helps.
