  1. Kaz, are you looking at the current 95.55?
  2. Have a look at CAO 95.55 section 7 - Might cover what you are looking for.
  3. "Regarding spats, they can shed screws, crack and get mud in them and make the tyres hard to pump up because the valve is hard to get at..Nev" What you say here is correct Nev, but from an appearance point of view they make a big difference, at least IMO. At our speeds the performance angle is generally overstated but an aircraft with spats just "looks " the finished article. We all (or many at least) like our toys to look the part. If paying for maintenance then they might not be worth the extra costs.
  4. "stand on the empty tank" hold about half a ball out and wait, the fuel will gradually balance. Standard practise even in a C208 which has a maximum listed balance limitation [with floats anyway]
  5. A new J230 with auto pilot for the long legs and 700kg MTOW.
  6. Go any time with you in your SK mate but leave me out with that one.
  7. $100 hamburger club, (pinched name), to Charters Twrs today for lunch. Another 4 aircraft arrived after my photos being a Foxbat, Tiger Moth, Spirit and another J230. Nice variety of aircraft I thought.
  8. Depends on whether you are talking electron flow or convential current flow. Electron flow is easier to explain the workings of a valve but they are getting few and far between.
  9. If you have 80+ HP , check your 'P' charts an tighten your seat belt. (No experience with smaller engines).
  10. Just a plan view, no opinion, just result.
  11. * Including, relating to, or affecting all members of the class or group under consideration; applicable in all cases: universal vaccination; universal suffrage. See Synonyms at general. * Done, produced, or shared by all members of the class or group under consideration: a discovery that met with universal acclaim.
  12. OME I won't comment other then to say your views are not held universally.
  13. Make sure you make contact, not worried about a signature.
  14. I have no answer to that Bob, but I will get a JP next year to save the problem unless I get confirmation that they will accept a Cdec certification - just to save having it returned. Last time I actually rang up and attempted to explain the difference but decided it was easier just to get a signature with JP after it, not worth the hassle.
  15. Last renewal refused by RAA because ID signed by a Cdec and not a JP. Too hard to explain the legal certification process so just went down to the pub and got an elderly JP (no official stamp or identifiction number) all good. It is a case of clerks just following the forms to the letter without knowing exactly what they are doing. Next year I will get JP with an unreadable signature again but it will go through!
  16. Because it has been "going on for years" doesn't make it right. I have paid for one every 2 years since they invented the requirement, but that doesn't mean I agree with the "waste of my money".
  17. Well at least I now of ONE person who agrees with the ASIC card arrangement. Until now I didn't know anyone involved in the aviation industry who agreed. Learn something new each day.
  18. Have heard many stories, and seen "slides" of various strips from friends who operated up there. Would be very interested in reading a book of the experiences as a lot of the details etc. are forgotten, and many have passed on without committing anything to paper. Hope you continue with the effort.
  19. Has anyone tried to explain aircraft maintenance to FT. I have flown this particular aircraft, 1973 model, but it does not have the original engine - just how many I don't know (and out of the many reasons for an engine to stop, what was the reason in this case?). Rest assured that this aircraft is maintained in CHTR category, and as such the current engine has less then 2000hrs on it. The stupid comments about a 60 year old engine are so far from the reality sometimes I wonder if this is an aviation related site or just another "facebook" type area for uninformed rubbish for keyboard experts - no offence intended to the serious posters but really!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Job for mates Keith, simple.
  21. Geoff If you are considering a J230 (I will not enter the engine debate - too many preconceived opinions here for me) Just consider, although the tanks can hold 135ltrs for one up flying, at 80ltrs you still have over 3 hrs endurance at 120kts, or 2nm per minute. Like any aircraft you are fuel limited by weight to stay legal, in all classes be it RAA, GA, or RPT. If you are interested in a personal opinion, feel free to PM me.
  22. Bruce, 1. Check the fuel flow on the engine pump. Should be 50 to 60 litres per hour otherwise replace. 2. Electric pump the same 60 litres per hour. Some off the shelf similar looking pumps have 8psi - too high. Rotax have a similar problem with too high a pressure from their engine pump and have an ad putting a bypass after the pump to take the excess fuel pressure back to before the pump. IMO better to have the correct pump pressure in the first place, but that's just me. I don't know what Zoos is on about but so be it.
  23. So are you suggesting the magic 17 yrs, or just taking a Hood type attitude to responsibility ?
  24. Some people should stay in the sand pit, its too dangerous out in the real world.
