  1. Nice drive from Seattle to Vancouver. They wouldn't allow us to drop off our rent-a-car over the border so got an 8 seater taxi. Price was quite reasonable at the time - mid 80s.
  2. Actually unreg & unlic is federal, so CASA. State police "may" take action should they choose under 328A of the CCode, Dangerous Operation, but without injuries I would be surprised if they didn't hand it over to CASA, but that's only a guess!
  3. The great ELB rip off. Mine cost $630 but have just discovered the $300 battery replacement or new item same price. I would be interested to see what batteries are fitted. As mine has 8 months to go, I don't want to pull it apart but someone must know of other options? Mark have you had any experience with this?
  4. Happyflyer I hear you. I did my training in what is now called class C, so allowing for other training, charter, RPT and sometimes RAAF traffic was all part of the game. Making accurate rate 1 orbits etc can be good training too. Overall I didn't think it really made a lot of difference.
  5. The bottom line is if someone is doing a wide circuit (probably training) is it that big of a problem really? When one is flying RA type aircraft it is only for enjoyment so time is not that important so you just slow down and slot into the circuit. Your whole flight apart from take off & landing is outside gliding distance of that strip. Always a discussion point but not a big thing at least IMO. Not touching the busy class D type training areas - gets a bit more involved.
  6. Yes that's better Nev. can't rely on auto spell to fix spelling.
  7. Aldo I gather you are flying IFR ? If so why are you doing a BFR.? Or are you referring to a RAA Bfr/Afr because they will not accept an instrument renewal as a BFR? Perhaps it's just my interruptation of your posts re your current flying.
  8. Katz The new improved lic has 20 pages of dribble to fit the new classes etc. and no photo so you can lend it to a friend (outside ASIC areas)
  9. What would be reasonable selection criteria for an officer in the Civil Aviation SAFETY Authority? Would a person who for example crashes an aircraft on commercial ops whilst not having a current BFR be considered a "fit and proper person" to conduct these duties? It would seem like appointing a known criminal to run a police force.
  10. For the iPad Press email and copy it from the email.
  11. Bull, what did you think of the layout?
  12. If you tap on the map where you want to go and then "enter user waypoint" it will be there. Hope that makes sence, easier to show then explain, for me anyway.
  13. Just a point to remember at "UNCERT" strips there is no requirement to carry a radio. Becoming less frequent now days, but still happens.
  14. A mate was there a couple of months ago. Turned off the strip on neat mowed grass and had a prop strike (broke the prop). Don't know if they have fixed the holes, so approach with caution.
  15. It would be much easier if you could get the "chatter box" brigade to read and understand CAR 166 C. Silly statements like "that was what I was taught" and "I do it for safety" just don't cut it. On going irrelevant calls makes necessary calls difficult at times. 166C (2) The pilot must make a broadcast that includes the following information whenever it is reasonably necessary to do so to avoid a collision, or the risk of a collision, with another aircraft:
  16. "See a departure" is interesting. A CPL who doesn't know how to do a departure in class C would be a worry!
  17. Ben, I take it that was before your current licence and c210 time?
  18. Yep ,fly away after 5 hours nav training ,also controlled airspace! more pax, above 10000 ft with medical! who needs PPL all your questions should be answered in this 4 page doc http://www.casa.gov.au/wcmswr/_assets/main/lib100191/rr61_rpl_fs.pdf Not my question mate, I said you could get a nav endorsement - question was from Jaba-who
  19. Yes there is a Nav endorsement for the RPL. I am not sure why, as you might as well do the PPL . The RPL is handy to convert to from a RAA cert as you don't have to do the exams - again I don't know why but I have long since given up trying to make sence of the actions CASA, they are an embarrassment.
  20. Andy The <2008 J230s use full forward trim (& run out of forward trim with one up) above 120kts requiring slight forward pressure OR slow to <120. The later ones have the incidence of the stabilator changed and cruise mid range trim. At least in the ones I have had anything to do with. Mine (2008) does not require full forward or aft trim in any phase of flight. A big job to change the incidence of the stabilator though. I think the cruise speed is slightly higher then initially planned.
  21. Must have a sore arse cheek to fly for so long out of balance. To empty one tank and then after it is empty continue to drain the header tank - I don't think I could stand, even as a pax, to last that long. Nothing new about balanced flying and caution to be used in turns when fuel is getting low e.g. A36 has yellow arcs on the guages not suitable for take off and caution operating in that area and you don't have the option of selecting Both. Cross feed in a Jab is easy to keep fuel level in both tanks - if you let one get down by flying out of balance for a while simply apply opposite rudder [only half a ball is sufficent] for a couple of minutes and you have even fuel distribution again.
  22. It appears to me that the alt in the blue circle shows +/- feet to your altitude, obviously from a GPS altitude. I have noticed on the last couple of trips that a following aircraft at 1500ft when I was at 2000ft showed up at -500ft. If you are looking whilst on the ground it gives +feet from your elevataion. Seems to work well - quasy TCAS type info. Aircraft landing at YCHT [elevation 950ft] showed +1000ft whilst I was on the ground at YBTL [elev 35ft]
  23. No arguement from me, just a question - nothing more intended. I have no issue with either company but some have and my query was only if it was based on personal experience or hearsay - many here over time have expressed strong opinions but actually have NO direct experiences to base such opinions on (and personal agenda - one locally a prime example).
