  1. I assume you have flown the standard trim set up in a J230, in which case disregard my comment. I find the trim change is so small that I wouldn't worry about it. Rudder trim now that's a different story - I have spoken to a person (don't have his details unfortunately - from Victoria somewhere) who has done this and claims 4 hour flights with even fuel burn with no input from the pilot required. PS he used a sprung centering arrangement on the top of the nose wheel leg with a vernier control on the dash. Sounded like the ducks guts.
  2. Phil LSA can use CTA (with fitted and maintained relevant instruments & transponder where required) But a PPL or higher licence is currently required - - also now a RPL with a CTA endorsement) The RAA pilot certificate is not sufficient currently. There are pages of opinions about this throughout the forum pages but at this stage, atleast, RAA lic only not permitted.
  3. If anyone really wants to know just read the Act relevant to your particular state. For example for Qld it is Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act, Section 79 (22 pages) for drink driving and Section 80 (37 pages) for breath/blood taking. (Each state will have something very similar) It is all covered, no arguements, whether you like it or not that is the current statute law.
  4. Some very bad and factually incorrect advice being thrown around here, but anyway back to flying it is more relevant and interesting.
  5. Was at a presentation recently where phones were requested to be off, but nicely added was for those of you who are too important to turn your phone off for 30mins there is an individual at the door assigned to look after your phone for you. Nobody took up the offer.
  6. Unfortunately with the makeup of the current senate all it can do is block - nothing positive can be achieved - quite apart from whatever crap CASA is trying to push this particular time. Xenophon - enough said.
  7. The only effect on my gun ownership is more govt tax. I paid the "once in a life payment" promised by Goss which has not only increased 600% in dollar terms but also renewable every 3 years. Has the same effect as an ACIC card, costs money and achieves nothing.
  8. There is an "aerial farm" just off the end of 07, with Xmod very hard to do much about it. There are 2 main places here, one being approaching 07 bases, the other half way between Stuart and the threshold of 01. Interference worse on 118.3 which just happens to be the tower freq. It appears to me to be a fact that the front end of the Microair radio is not as selective as the dearer radios - I don't have access to a signal generator to prove this, just a feeling from using both types over an extended period of time.
  9. Think (A) is it an aircraft - Yes (B) Is is registered to a particular grouping - No Then it is simply an unregistered aircraft - CASA Don't forget also for "dangerous operation" an aircraft is included in the definition of a vehicle under the Criminal Code ( in Qld at least). There exists case law where an appeal was dismissed on similar actions which resulted in 2 years in the "go slow". Incidentally in this case an RAA registered (or possibly UFA) aircraft. (Contributing circumstances & charge not related to the offence of dangerous op included)
  10. Flew this morning also, the wind up here was 25/30kts, mod turb, but hey, just tighten the seatbelt a bit more, all good.
  11. I think it may depend on usage, 2 Aircraft (mine and another) changed after 6 years - still good but changed because of time only, didn't want to run the risk of being let down in the bush. Another 2 aircraft the batteries got "lazy" after 3/4 years requiring replacement. Only difference being the 2 lasting 6 plus years are flown a couple of times a week and the other 2 are flown every month. All 4 aircraft J230s, and same airfield (temps etc). The removed batteries after sitting don't appear to have the cranking power now after sitting for a few months even after fully charging.
  12. In short, NO. Dangerous Operation etc. has nothing to with registration only behaviour and no you will not be charged with unregistered driving in a paddock - registration is completely irrelevant. Drink Driving - look at the legislation it states "on a road or elsewhere" again nothing to do with registration.
  13. PHIL The advantage of flying in North Qld - if you can get an ident it will be the correct one, no others for 100 plus miles.
  14. PHIL It was more intended to point out how stupid some of what is coming out of CASA currently. I have been doing either a BFR or instrument renewal since they invented it (I don't remember BFRs 35 yrs ago?) but if you want to fly one has to put up with whatever crap they keep coming up with. In case you are not across it, with the new CASRs everyone with an existing licence has to apply for a new Lic within a 3yr period at the occurrence of a "trigger event".
  15. I just applied for a part 61 licence (trigger event being a BFR) as required. Had to do the English language bit - I stated to the CFI that I hope I don't fail as it is the only language I know.
  16. Do everything in a J170 that I do in my 230. Cruise at 100 V 120, on shortish trips the 120hp is noticable expecially at 600kg, but the plus being about 8 ltrs/hr less. The later models without the large fin under the tail make them a pretty little aircraft.
  17. I don't understand why the NEW contains posts that one has already read? I know it is what you posted and works accordingly, but I don't understand your reasoning.
  18. Doug I have a mate who is a LAME at Emerald, if you want ring me and I can put you onto him - he will know what is available at Emerald airport. The security at Emerald is over the top, I wouldn't recommend going there without a current ASIC - even with an ASIC they will not give you the gate code without going to the office to sign some agreement - I told them to go and play in the traffic. During daytime hours you ring security and 2 "important people" will let you in after inspecting your ASIC card, but will not give you the gate code OR run into another pilot who will give it to you. The trouble is that they change it more regularly then Townsville, which is class C, so I guess it keeps the "important people" in a job. A lot of terrorist activity there apparently! I go there about 4 or 5 times a year and every time the gate code has been changed. As Sue says, parking is another anti social situation.
  19. Frank Is the ultralight symbol on the Cairns VTC your location?
  20. Egg on face - The knee-jerk reaction of grounding all R44s on misinformation
  21. Last Sunday at Ayr, hard to pick the aircraft of choise there!
  22. I I 've only managed to fly to Adelaide a couple of times, a long way from north Queensland, but should I get down that way again I would certainly include a detour via Mikes strip.
  23. Make that word refreshing, I didn't reread my post until too late to edit!
