  1. You think so. Much was introduced because a couple of people just think it is a good idea. I tried unsuccessfully to change BEFORE being sent to CASA, and I thought worked , but did not happen. Best of luck with the new smaller board, I give up. My prediction is not as rosy as yours, but time will tell.
  2. I enjoy walking about the aircraft looking at different types, presentation and workmanship. The people are generally more social at the smaller events though.
  3. Ah! Now I see, what pmc was referring to, I also took the heading to be only a heading too
  4. Ditto Ian. I check for anything new/interesting regularly but wading through everything for the last 14days each time - only when killing time with this set up.
  5. I have done the test when converting my licence to the part 61 lic, just don't agree with the requirement.
  6. I would like the option of a user being able to select what comes up when NEW is selected. I have no idea what that involves, so just a comment from a user with no knowledge of the technical aspects - simply some stuff I have no interest in seeing. I thought that option was available some time ago but I'll stand corrected.
  7. Exactly - understanding people who should be required to speak English not us required to understand bad English - more of the politically correct society.
  8. My ONLY interest in this is that RAA is run in a effective way for members. I have NO interest in egos of a few who believe they have such superior knowledge that their way is the only way and will not consider other opinions. I am concerned at the current approach, particularly in relation to unsustainable spending - just look at the last couple of years AND the current predicted LOSS as presented at the last general meeting. (Yes I have read the excuses about the failed audits etc so no need to go down that line again - that is purely management issues) The current approach is overtly supported by 4 or 5 on this site (which I have no problem with) but interestingly enough I have yet to hear from ONE person, face to face, who are in agreement with the current push. Just standby and watch your membership/registration fees (and thereby hire rates for non owners) which is the only way to sustaine the current expenditure. Paid advertising to gain new members to make up the shortfall is fanciful. Equally interesting is to see the comment from an outspeken supporter, and I quote " (hmm! Those pesky Qlanders could dominate)" Well that's what you open it up to with groups/cliques/alliances being able to be formed - not ideal IMO - with the we know best, if you don't like it leave approach. Hang on, wasn't location not considered a factor?
  9. I take a different view Keith. There are no stats to indicate this is a safety issue. Commonsense should dictate that someone would not undertake a task outside their comfort area. We are talking about maintaining your own aircraft ONLY and not selling your services as a professional (I do have reservations about 'some' L2s and their qualifications ). I don't support the idea of making more qualifications (& thereby costs) without a demonstrated need. For example I have already done two RAA courses and hold their RAA certificates for them. One was a one day course (at a cost of $100) and the previous on line one. I have taken this matter up with the Tech Manager who stated they have no records of previous courses?? and they do not recognise a factory run course (which I completed with you & as you know was quite involved). The Assist Tech Manager has attended the same course so fully aware of its content. I have no problems with some course for initial issue but requirement to requalify for all existing L1s every time someone gets a brain fart is unacceptable. What is next - would appear a gradual push against self maintenance - some support this approach, just have a look at the changes to new the Teach Manual for CTA access (and this was introduced by RAA so can't use the CASA made us excuse - I argued, with some support, against this but was unsuccessful).
  10. Whatever ones personal opinion is, this process it is certainly devicive. It is better to lead an organisation then it is to push - resulting in splinter groups in various directions. Reminds me of regular statement of Julius Sumner Miller "Watch, watch, watch".
  11. Or park on a slope with "both" selected.
  12. Becomes complicated and costly then Keith - Finding and paying an "Approved testing officer" and location limited.
  13. I believe you correct in your worry. Progressively little bits at a time all in the opinion of a couple of people's opinions of SAFETY and what is even more concerning "at the instigation of RAA itself".
  14. I have seen a political style 'how to vote' sheet sent by (3) two candidates and a club, even with a slogan "five for the future". I find it insulting that some believe they can promote a political style campaign for the election of board members to RAA. Of the other 3 in the promoted "5" I only know one (who I find hard to accept would be part of this process, as I find him as as individual thinker) but short of a public statement to the contrary one can only assume that all 5 are on the one ticket. One would assume they were all contacted before using their names in a promotion? I certainly would not accept my name being promoted on a group ticket without consent. That would only leave 5 others that have not formed a "clique". Disappointing at least IMO
  15. But to be realistic that would not be hard to do. (4 people's ideas & a few followers.)
  16. Interesting comment there mate. I am from North Queensland and in summer those temps are not uncommon and with the 12 operating here locally, from 120, 160, 170 & 230s it is not a problem? Might be something with the set up of the particular aircraft you are referring to & none have water cooled heads. Beats me.
  17. I only come back below 2700 once in the circuit on landing, use a descent profile > 2800.
  18. Was not suggesting otherwise for a minute. Just some (including myself) hold strong opinions against the move, but that is all history now anyway - unless another group etc.
  19. Andy I think the problem arrises when some people use your callsign to avoid being charged. Less likely with the 4 RAA numbers then picking 3 random letters I guess - but still possible. In Charters Towers, for example, they have cameras set up - removes doubt and also picks up the ones who don't broadcast in order to avoid the fees (which introduces some obvious undesirable outcomes)
  20. Geoff The word "majority" should be included to be fair as it was not supported unaminously - but we are all sacked now so good luck with the new board whoever they may be (certainly not me).
  21. Thanks, I didn't pick that up.
  22. ? You know more then me, I certainly didn't read that into any statements........
  23. Sue I am sure at least 800 people agree with you, I don't know about the rest - but it's a done thing and people can watch the future or try to change it again it they feel strongly enough. I am sure a lot will be watching - certainly still a lot of talk around the airfields I visit. I look forward to seeing the numbers that vote in this election as a guide to people's acceptance of the current process. Voting for unknowns on the basis of an academic style statement is certainly a different approach - better or not is up to the individual members personal opinion.
  24. O dear. Large lack of aircraft/aviation knowledge (save for the ex board members)- or maybe it is just the criteria that was asked to be addressed. Certainly interesting times ahead.
  25. No argument there just the appeal value.
