  1. Watching a mass take off of 13 Spitfires at Duxford a few years ago, they don't let the tail get up to a normal flying attitude while on the ground. They hold the tail low until they fly off in that attitude. When we first see this Spit it is pretty much at a flying attitude & neutral elevator, maybe the tail should not be allowed to get that high to start with. Great to see people rush in & lift the aircraft to get access to the pilot. Around here people would most likely be kept away & the poor pilot would have to wait for a crane to arrive or the rescue truck would cut up an only moderately damaged, rare aircraft & wreck it completely.
  2. That's a Griffen not a Merlin, makes it even more of a handful.
  3. Actually we put him where he was not going to blow anyones tent or aircraft away when he departed, the proximity to amenities was coincidental to that.
  4. Glad you enjoyed the weekend Bob & thanks for the kind words. My team of aircraft marshals included plenty of first timers & I too thought they did a great job. I was disspointed not to get time to get a closer look at your RV & meet you.
  5. It's unlikely to be the last, yes we are taking a break next year as the Creed family have a big family event next year & it's too much to do both. Watch this space!!!!
  6. We had 196 aircraft landed & registered by last light Saturday. Plus 6 or 7 day visitors on Sunday taking our total to just over 200 for the second year in a row. A massive effort for a small flying club, thanks to all that helped us out.
  7. The Skylark was there by itself for a couple of days........... I was starting to worry! As of tonight there are over 90 aircraft in the parking area.
  8. Totally agree. I reckon the greatest reward for taking someone for a fly is when they get the bug and follow it through by learning to fly themselves. It's funny how when you are learning to fly you can't wait to fly by yourself, yet once you have done a bit on your own you soon realise it's much better to have someone with you to share the fun.
  9. I promise we will find you a spot Scott. I am keen to have a look at the Legend.
  10. It's a Dova Skylark. All metal, 115 knots at 18 litres per hour on a 100 hp Rotax. Docile at low speed, stalls at 36 knots with flap. Usable load 280kgs. Not sure what you would find funny about it? I shoulda closed the canopy before I took the pic!
  11. Flew from Bundy up to Old Station this morning. Here to help prepare for the Fly In this weekend. Awesome flight up, cruise at 6500 ft over broken cloud, beautiful & smooth with a 15 knot tailwind too!
  12. Just landed at Old Station, the place is looking great. Glad I got here early, lucky to get a parking spot
  13. Even if you can't stay for the show there is plenty to see & lots of flyers to catch up with. Last year by the time of the show we had over 200 aircraft on the ground, 70 of those were there Friday night. The timing of the show is really set around getting people to stay for the saturday night, that is what I would recommend if you can make that work.
  14. I agree with you about this often trotted out comment. I know I love controlled flight, but the day it all goes pear shaped I know I will not love the last few seconds most likely filled with terror and spent fighting for my life. If I leave this world as a result of a flight gone wrong, I really hope that no one says or writes that I "died doing something I loved".
  15. Right there with you Planey, that is really cool......... for someone, anyone but me!
  16. I find it a bit strange that if a witness saw a wing come off that it is taking so long to find the aircraft. If a wing came off the aircraft is unlikely to have tavelled far from that point. .
  17. That's interesting. I have seen 2 Comp ARF Tucanos with turbo props & the sound did not impress me. They sounded no different to a big electric. In your video the turbine sounds comes across very clearly, the ones I saw were just all prop noise.
  18. There already is forum here, it's under Special Interest Forums. Specifically see the thread "Show us your models". There are plenty here that also fly models. Lately the modelling section has been bombarded with videos from the UK, the poster does the videos not the model building / flying. It is all stuff that can be found on Youtube.
  19. Russ stopped using the floating hull aircraft a couple of months ago. It's a shame, I did a flight in it with him & it was serious fun!
  20. I have been flying this Edge 540 since about August last year, just realised I had not posted it here. It's a Peak Models ARF, just under 2.4m span, DA 50cc motor, 7.9kg. The ARF was not the best but reflected the price. Plenty of work to bring it up to scratch but the end result I am happy with. It didn't come with any of the graphics, just the basic scheme, all the vinyl was cut by a mate & applied by me. The colours are scale, as flown in the Perth Red Bull Air Race in 2009 by Matthius Dolderer.
  21. Is that a scatch build or the Hempel ARF? I have a mate near Brisbane that has the Hempel ARF & is accruing funds for a Valach 800cc radial engine to put in it.
  22. I went to Legends in 2014, it was every bit as good as the promo video. Bad weather in Europe stopped a few warbirds getting there, but there were so many there the only thing I missed was the Red Bull P-38 Lightning. It was a bad year for the mass Spitfire display, they only managed to round up 13 that year. My wife loved it so much she insists we need to go again, I guess that's yet another occasion I will have to do as I am told!!!
  23. Keith I don't know why you have quoted my post? Your post has no relevance or even a proper response to my post. I have stated my belief that people should take the chance to voice an opinion in a format that may make a difference. You however continue to just bag out RAAus. You have made it very clear that you have a barrow to push, but in any business you will gain more respect if you achieve success by out performing your opposition, not by bagging them. Let's see some action not just words.
  24. Survey done. I have taken the opportunity in the open answer parts to speak my views on a few issues I have with where RAAus is seemingly headed & focused. Even if you don't like the format / options given, use the opportunity to speak up. There has to be more chance of getting a message across there than just talking about things here on our forum. Maybe the message will be heard, maybe not. The only thing certain is that if you don't participate in the survey your voice will not be heard or counted.
  25. Hi rdarby, Avgas is available from a permanent facility on site. Recommend fuelling on arrival to ensure no delay when you want to leave. Just advise the aircraft parking marshals when you switch from CTAF to ground frequency & they will direct you to the fuel. Re food & drink there will be plenty of options on site, unless you have any unique dietry requirements you should not need to bring anything. All on site vendors contribute to our nominated charity, the Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service. The 06 Bar will be well stocked with beverages for saturday night. Have a look at the link in my original post, click on "The Fly In & Heritage Show" tab at the top of the page for lots of info about the weekend. You will be met on arrival by the lovely ladies of our "Meet & Greet" team who will point out where everything is and answer any questions you have at the time. Any other questions before the weekend, just ask. See you there!
