  1. Thanks Mike, we have been here a couple of months. The Skylark is in Les' hangar. You would not have seen us around as until last Friday we hadn't flown since getting here.
  2. Yep! We will fly Bundy to Dubbo tomorrow, stop there overnight & then the short hop to Temora Friday morning. If it is anything like the last one 2 years ago it will be well worth the trip.
  3. So if I buy there and base my RAAus registered Sportstar there my mate with his VH registered Sportstar can't fly in to visit?
  4. At least he got to wear a cool black suit
  5. Matt Chapman one of the top American aerobatic / display pilots is a model flyer as is our own Paul Bennett. Nigel Arnett flies models regularly too. Matt Hall has seen my model of his race plane and commented he has tried RC and is really bad at it but probably has just not had a decent go with the right type of model to learn on.
  6. Not that special these days with a model. It's actually easier to do right on the deck than up at say 50-100 feet. When it is low & close you can see every little movement of the model & use smaller smoother corrections. However low & close carries consequences when you get it wrong. I can hover a small foamy & tap the tail on the ground but you won't see me do it with my big models, I have more respect for them than that. Also plenty of guys doing this sort of thing are using gyros and electronic stabilization to assist them with this type of flying.
  7. I saw this last year when I visited Hendon. It is no less impressive in the flesh than in the photos.
  8. The whole fluro vest thing is in my opinion a waste of effort. In places like Gladstone Qld it is more like camoflauge, there is so much of it no one sees it any more. I felt like I was the visible one not wearing fluro. Sure our safety record has been horrible but I can't see how high vis clothing could have prevented any of our serious accidents of late.
  9. Dissapointing to see the New Posts list top 4 about politics, bureaucrats & polution less than 8 hours after Ian started this thread requesting more focus on aviation. I for one would be fine with banning discussion of politics, religion and pretty much anything else not directly related to aircraft & flying. There arelenty of other places on the net if you feel the need to discuss these things.
  10. From what I know if all goes well he will have one of each!
  11. Do you Tempest / Napier Sabre fans know of Kermit Weeks efforts to get a Mk V Tempest back in the air? Search Kermit Weeks Tempest on Youtube and you will find a recent two part video about the project.
  12. Good on You!!! For someone like yourself to make such a committment & effort to support an event like this makes many of the other's negative comments look nothing short of ordinary. Whether or not you attend an event like this is purely down to committment & whether or not you enjoy it comes down to your attitude. Some years ago Ian Baker organised a fly-in for us forumites at Eucha Victoria. I flew down from Hervey Bay Qld and arrived Friday just before it started to rain. Not much else arrived and just about nothing happened for the rest of the weekend. It took 4 days of chasing weather to get home. Lots of things not good about that whole effort but I don't focus on them or complain about it. Instead I still look back fondly at that trip & am thankful that Ian went to the effort to put it on. We still had some fun, met some good people & I learnt plenty during the flight. Unfortunately I didn't make Ausfly, trust me I would have rathered been there than moving house. I just hope there is enough support for the event so that I get the chance to go next year.
  13. I saw the coverage on the channel 7 news, the aircraft is locked up in a nice hangar. I've been trying to get my Skylark into a hangar for years, who would have thought that just one load of grass and I could be there!
  14. I have flown 5 Sportstars & my Skylark with vernier throttles and none have had slop like that.
  15. In some of the photos during the loop it looks like the flaps are deployed. I would not think that would be normal for this sort of manouvre?
  16. Thanks I will get on to Ollie. I hear what you say about some people being ham fisted, the aircraft has been doing more hire than training lately which is when things get get busted. No instructor there to watch what is being done. Both air vents have also been broken recently as well as the vernier. Cheers!
  17. Thanks Camel, now that you point that out I remember seeing that on the Kasper site before. Cheers!
  18. I am trying to resolve a problem with the vernier throttle on my Sportstar that has come about after working great for 1000 hours of use in training. Can anyone out there tell me who makes the vernier used in the Sportstar?
  19. My Sportstar vernier throttle is suffering from the same problem that Wayne describes above. Does anyone out there know if there is a fix for this? Any help would be appreciated.

  21. They could only round up 11 Spits to fly together when I was at Duxford in 2014, but 4 MkI's together was something not seen in a long time. The middle group in this pic are the MkI's.

  23. My Skylark was in a box on the high seas when the Pasha Bulka ( sp?) ran aground near Newcastle. Of course this reason for plenty of "mates" to try to stir me about the Skylark being on that ship even though I knew it wasn't. That's what we pay insurance for.
  24. I watched this guy's display recently at Old Station and held my breathe hoping something like this would not happen. To me this is flying too close to the edge & when you are this close to the edge sooner or later you are going to fall off. Even more so in windy conditions. Others may not agree but I think this is taking unnecessary risk.
