  1. Free and very cheap tax advice follows: Unless you do a lot of hours - I'd go with the hourly rate, a comparable hourly rate if you had to hire the same plane from someone (long as you consider $ value / residual value of plane, no instructor wages etc) Not really defensible charging $ 400 / hour for a 'flying flea' ...................... I wouldn't think Not really defensible if plane costs you $ 15k per year to insure, house, fix and run and you only did 10 hours and 4 hours of that was business - Mr tax commissioner would take a very dim view of a deduction of 4 hours @ $ 1,500 = $ 6,000 (there would probably be an entirely different argument if the plane was 100 % business and owned 100 % by a business)
  2. .............. and its good to see even though we got little ones and they got big ones that they are willing to share their thoughts here
  3. ........... and I think - with any notice of a potential claim to the insurer - the insured cannot admit any liability / wrong doing (these are usual standard rules of 'insurance cover' with the insurance Co)
  4. ......... but the first officer eventually becomes a captain (more often than not) ................. what changes ? ...................... does the extra money and power make that person a pompous clod (I'd also be guessing all captains are n't pompous clods)
  5. .....& what will they do when the 797 is eventually made
  6. your lucky ? dutch ...................... you fly them I think its every pilots dream to be called up front to take over - however, upon your advice and consideration - I'll just return to my seat and wait for the crunch

  13. just came back from holidays and walking through the airport from the airline gates there were herds of people going in one direction and a few coming back the other way on the other side the left hand side convention was being used (not that its a social sin to do something else) .......... sure enough there was a family of 4 coming back the other way on the right hand side - they were battling head winds amongst the traffic and as they past I 100% heard the american accents never tried left hand drive SrPilot
  14. $ 180 per point is a bit cheap ................. why not make it a round $ 200 per point ? and be done with it
  15. Occasionally you get a good one - Lenin - Churchill - Hawke (I'm not saying any were good !) - give smithy a go
  16. Dutchroll - if you are landing say a 50 ton plan (guess a 737 could be that) - I would of thought a 25 kt crosswind would equate to a lot less ............... than say a light aircraft in the same wind ......................... like to know that - thanks
  17. 'Er, John. The highest runway number is 36, meaning a runway aligned about 360 degrees magnetic, running South to North. To answer your question, let us assume class G airspace with a left hand circuit on runway 36.' I always wondered why the compass only went up to 36 Nong
  18. ........ sometimes you hear the term joining early (or late) downwind runway 99 - to give an indication where you are on that leg isn't this ambiguous ? should it not be joining long (or short) downwind ?
  19. no offence even remotely considered Alf
  20. true .................. you could also use a rock on the end of a piece of rope ........... as well ........... just discussing the technique of a landing, though
  21. There's a fair bit of talk in another thread about approach speeds for landing What about braking - if you have brakes - apart from brake testing at initial taxi and return to hangar ............. may be a dab after flare to see if they are there How much do you rely on brakes after flare ? Seems to me best way is try and not rely on brakes to make the plane fit the strip ............... just in case those brakes are not there or are not as good as you thought they were ?
  22. good point Kasper .............. on reflection most will stall their planes at least once every flight
  23. ........... think the NZ one eventually went back to owner in USA ?
  24. Phil Perry said: ↑ Wot's this then ? View attachment 39603 its a won wing by wong & co
  25. ........... so with limited options - turning crosswind as early as you can could be a a safe ® option ?
