  1. re AVDATA - Council's logic would be money ! - some money is better than none
  2. i tried looking for performance specs for some of these planes - stall speeds seldom mentioned (if at all) my guess is: - lowest stall speed - Hurricane - 80 knots - fastest stall speed - Electric Lightning - 155 knots Any one wants to argue ? .................................... winner takes all (plus the light green 2 tone '55 vauxhall velox (with 5 new ! retreads))
  3. hope the terminology is right ? been wondering when a radial motor has hydraulic lock (oil bottom cylinders) I imagine you either pull the prop through or take the spark plugs out a) how is that achieved when a radial powered flying boat is moored in water ? thanks
  4. and also the moderators are very well rounded individuals with superior life skills that WE mere members can only dream of (the moderators know best)
  5. RE RAA member numbers I tired of the incessant financial commitment owning a plane so sold it and built a ................... When my RAA aircraft rego lapsed RAA rang me and said 'rather than paying the incessant $ 200 rego fee per year - you can be a non flying member ?' - think that's the term ........... and was only $ 35 per year So when you say 10,000 members - there's probably lots of deadwood in that number
  6. Heard you say that once before FH I'm curious to know the circumstance if you care (of course I (we) understand if you decline) ?
  7. or by attrition and time in service ............... some call it seniority ? ................... they are next in line for the next level
  8. so what you are saying OME is that when you get a speeding ticket - personalised with 'on site' attendance by Mr Plod - they are actually giving you an 'in built' $ 197.20 discount I'll have to start driving with more panache
  9. another option might be that some aero clubs have a preferred insurer (in other words the 'insurer' gets all the business - some provisos are that you are a member of that club) the aero club gets buying power - you might swing that one AvidSteve (get some club members on side - ................. an admin / aeronautical task for the future !)
  10. OK Asteve - when I had plane - these people insured it and were good (it had a training wheel up front though) give them a go ?
  11. probably telling you how to suck eggs ASteve ................... have you tried an insurance broker ?
  12. that's ridiculous - the 4 engined plane would glide twice as far as the 2 engined plane - its got twice as many engines - do themath
  13. don't know if this has been posted - could be applied to planes ? see link https://youtu.be/MNnB_50Z20I

  16. definite NZ my guess ? would be 1950 ? - new plymouth or perhaps blenheim .......... good photo though - everyones busy
  17. joining the coversations: a tecnam bravo with a V8 ............. that'll attract some ulcers
  18. I bet this one did more than 204 mph cruise
  19. Some initiatives CASA now realises some ideas have not tracked as initially anticipated don’t work; work has identified thinking through the initial idea new dependencies and issues that require proposals to be re-sequenced and rescoped – it now seems bl@@dy obvious to CASA that this needs more work
  20. Danny, she wasn't a cop, she was only playing at being one. She was a county official, essentially a ranger, as Dan says, "equivalent to a dog catcher". 'similar to an animal control officer' ...................... please 😇
  21. I reckon the port wing moved a whole lot more than t'other one
